The Anything Quiz is a quiz where basically "anything is a question". It could be a political question, an entertainment question, a math question, a sports question, a certain flower question, it could BE ANYTHING! You got to be the first person to response to get points.

For season 2 of the "Anything" Quiz there are NEW RULES!

Rules

1. Scoring System!

75 points to the 1st person to answer
50 points to the 2nd person to answer
25 points to everyone else that answers the question.

2. Only one question per week!

3. Scores from The Anything Quiz 1 will continue into Season 2

Let's Begin!

What do you think of the 2007 F.I.R.S.T game?

It's ok. It reminds me too much of 1997. But I do like how the rack moves and how the bonus points are scored.

I would want to be on Team 395, 2Train Robotics.

I wouldn't want to be on any team for the FIRST season. Yes all of the other teams are great, but I wouldn't want to have to rebuild the bonds that I have with my team. If the students don't get along how do you expect them to work together? Maybe I'm looking at it a little too seriously but that's just my opinion. But if I had to absolutely choose..I'd pick 229 because I really want to go to Clarkson University.

I would love to be on 1511. I have worked with mentors and students there, it I have made tons of friends. Every FIRST event I've been to, I've met more and more people from them. They really work hard each year to build the robot and their flare team has tons of energy. They do tons around the community at the same time, and I would love to be part of that force.

As a parent of Team 1511, Thanks Dan!
My choice would be one of the Delphi sponsored teams. I work for Delphi, and we don't sponsor any teams in this area, but I've watched and rooted for the Delphi teams for years! My favorites are 47, of course, and the TecknoKats of Kokomo (Team 45).

I wouldn't want to be on another team. Although our team isn't great almost everyone gets along. Us seniors as well as some juniors are all in the same classes together, so we all understand eachother and have created a good atmosphere in our robotics class. I wouldn't want to have to try and recreate that atmosphere.

What is your favorite regional and why?

Michelle Celio
21-01-2007, 22:12
I have to go with my own regional (Florida Regional) because, I've never been to anyother one. Sure it has some downsides like how on Friday last year we had no power in the outdoor pits. But it has its fun time, I got to see all the Florida FIRST people that I've met though Chief Delphi, and you get to see some cool robots like 233. We also every year have teams from Puerto Rico attend our regional which is cool because not all of their students speak English.

Dan Petrovic
21-01-2007, 22:12
Out of regionals I've been to:

Probably the Buckeye regional in 2005. Simply because it was our first time there and everyone seemed to love us. Also, we have an incredible that spawned a new, unofficial motto for our team. "Go For Four!"

It relates to the four tetras we attempted to score at once after consistantly being able to score 3 at once.

Our coach denies the fact that the whole thing happened, yet it's wasn't a bad thing. It was a great thing. I just remember one of our pit mentors getting up saying "Well.. we've got work to do *laughs*"

Not to mention the fact that the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a perfect place to kill some time.

FLR for me. It was where I first discovered FIRST. The energy and passion that I saw there was so amazing that I was able to convince my school to start a team. There is tons of room to dance and meet others there and you can get really close up to the field to watch the matches. It just happens to be about 10 minutes away from my home too, so I'm sure that adds into to it.

Cynette
21-01-2007, 23:17
I'm a fan of GTR (Greater Totonto Regional) because of its hugeness! It draws so many teams, and really steps up the level of competition. And yet it offers some of the greatest opportunities for gracious professionalism. And its fun to be able to say you went to a foreign country for your FIRST Competition.

My favorite regional is the lonestar regional in Houston. Last year it was a lot of fun. We stayed in a ghetto motel where i thought we were gonna be murdered. The best part was finishing way at the bottom after qualifying and then being chosen to join one of the top 8 teams. Our alliance finished in 2nd place, the alliance would have won but our robot threw a chain.

Goodwill Hunting tops my list of outstanding movies. In addition to a stellar cast including Robin Williams and Minnie Driver, it showcased the brilliance of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Although these actors, Mr. Affleck in particular, are not normally regarded as Hollywood's best and brightest, this script was phenomenal. I'm still waiting on the sequel - Goodwill Hunting II: Hunting Season.

I have way too many favorites to pick just one!!! But I'll give a nod to an old favorite "Matilda" It's the one based on a Roald Dahl book (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the BFG, James and the Giant Peach and many more) about a little girl who is a total misfit in her family, but learns that she has special powers. I never turn down a chance to watch it!

04-02-2007, 21:37
Easily Gene Wilder. He is just so funny in all the movies I've seen him in, especially the Mel Brooks movies. "My name is Jim, but most people call me...Jim". He just has this great sense of humor all together and can actually sing. He hair also reminds me of what my hair is becoming, so it adds on to how much I like him.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?

If i could change one thing i would stop all of the wars and feuds. These wars are pointless and are resulting in so many unneccesary deaths. I just want to see what it would be like if everyone got along instead of shooting or blowing up each other.

Hiteak
10-02-2007, 07:18
I would add in a ton more of FIRST teams in the world. With more teams will bring more students into science and engineering, which would eventually lead to greater and newer technologies. Newer technologies could eventually solve some of the world's worst problems and make life easier.

Taylor
12-02-2007, 07:11
I would put limits on deep-sea fishing. In turn, I would find a way to farm large saltwater fish to make them a replenishing food source. It has been argued that the large saltwater gamefish have declined by 90% due to human overfishing. It would truly be a tragedy to lose these beautiful, magnificent creatures like so many buffalo.

Jeff 801
15-02-2007, 14:31
I would change the amount of money it cost to enter the FRC ring. One reason is I want my middle school to have a team. And also the amount of fund rasing is outragious.

taylort
20-02-2007, 01:55
I wouldn't change anything specifically FIRST-related, though it is an AMAZING organization. I think the much bigger problem is student apathy (and apathy, in general.) I would make it such that everyone would care enough to make the most of their life through education, though not specifically FIRST. Granted, FIRST would most likely experience a boost due to that change, but the more important thing is the change itself. If everyone actually cared about what was going on around them (no matter what was actually going on around them) we wouldn't see so many of the problems we do see.

What does your robot do?

Taylor
20-02-2007, 11:13
Edit: What does your robot intend to do?

1529's 2007 FRC entry, Lollipop, will have the ability to score ringers on any level of the rack. It can also pick up ringers that are lying flat on the ground, as well as any that are fed through the chute. A four-foot, 110 lb robot, Lollipop will be a liftee rather than a lifter. Its robust design also allows the drivers to adapt to a defensive style, if the game situation requires. The team believes the manipulator, after which the robot was named, is truly a one-of-a-kind device, the likes of which you will see on no other competitor this season.

Hiteak
20-02-2007, 16:03
Our robot uses a sissor lift with measured levels. You can turn a rotary switch to go between levels for all the heights. Our robot also has a ramp that can hold 1 robot, maybe with another robot on top of that robot. Our claw works with the inner diameter of the tubes and opens to that 3 pich points hold the tube in place. It should all work by the end of tonight.

Leviathan is 5 feet around 105 lbs and can reach all the spider legs. We used pneumatics to lift the arm and to open and close both of our hands. We plan on going out there and trying to score as much as possible and we can get up a ramp if we need to.

What items will be in the house of the future?

taylort
22-04-2007, 01:54
A lot of robots. ;)

The house of the future will most likely have anything it takes to make a seamless transition from the world of work to the world of home. A trend we currently see is the integration of information technology into common appliances -- refrigerators with TV's and computers. I foresee that trend leading to the introduction of things that allow you to receive and send information at any time in any location in said house.

Hiteak
22-04-2007, 07:45
I believe that there would be robot butlers or robots to do every other task. Super computers would be in all the rooms and would take up very little space. Every book ever published would be on a single disk and on another disc would be every movie and tv show in existence. Hopefully by then we would all have segways too or what ever Dean has cooking up next.

Jeff 801
22-04-2007, 14:16
The house would have a refrigerator in the armrest of all the chairs. also a self cleaning floor. A super computer in every room. and Last a place to store and charge your segway.

P.S. can you post the new scores

Taylor
23-04-2007, 09:24
The house of the future will be drastically different from the house of the present. It will feature technological advances unforeseen by humans. As an ever-changing, ever-adapting species, the lodgings will change as well.
That being said, I believe the house of the future will contain coffee cups, armchairs, and writing instruments.

raymaniac
23-04-2007, 15:53
Everything will use either solar, wind, water, or some other renewable and environmentally friendly energy source. There wont be any cell phones or iPods sitting around because that stuff will all be chips implanted into your brain. And the segways will fly.

Cooley744
29-04-2007, 14:56

I would give it to the veteran who was giving out the red poppies today at the store. The wearing of poppies in honor America's war dead is traditionally done on Memorial Day and takes its origin from the poem "In Flanders Fields," written in 1915 by John McCrae. Veterans service organizations, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW), as the VFW distributes poppies annually on Memorial Day and the week before. It is a tradition that I remember from when I was a little girl and I encourage all of us to continue!

This summer I'm taking the time to finally sit down and learn a lot about computers and programming, as well as reading (a lot.) Neither are things I would be able to do throughout the year. I'm also playing ultimate frisbee (w00t) regularly with a bunch of friends, though SC summer weather is all but pleasant.

To join in with the fall weather thoughts -
I like to make doughnuts using canned biscuits.
You can cut them in 1/2 - fry them on each side in a skillet with an inch or so of hot oil - just 'til they are golden.

Then roll them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

Serve with hot chocolate with marshmellows and you are good to go.

Now if Texas would just cooperate with fall *sigh*.

Using the word, small, in my post: small-mindedness. Being small-minded means being judgmental, critical, and stubborn without trying to see another point of view. That can be very costly when it comes to exploring and understanding cultures, peoples, traditions, belief systems, education - life.

How is your team doing so far?

First of all, we are ready for our off season next week! We have also recruited about 10 more members and are hoping to get about 10 more when strike is over. All Israeli teams currently have recruiting problems due to an ongoing highschools strike - 40+days so far.

We are doing pretty good. Main thing right now is training new members. We also need to take apart one of our old robots and clean/organize our pod that holds all of our robotics stuff.

I guess my team is doing good. We have many mentors that have set up training. Last my team has decided on which competitions to go to.

What do you think is the 2008 game?

Hiteak
28-12-2007, 21:11
I think it will deal with mirrors in the corners of the arena. these mirrors will allow ir sensors to tell where certain objects are. The robot would then be able to find them and then place them in special goals.

i don't have a clue. I will wait until kickoff. I don't want to guess because mine might be better than the game is or i will be so off i will get the two mixed up or something anyways its up to the GDC to come up with the game not me.

The Anything Quiz will return soon after the build season is over.

Look out for some " surprising, interesting changes in the realm of questioning" for the future of Anything Quiz.

The ANYTHING QUIZ RETURNS

What is the most interesting challenge of the 2008 game?

Hiteak
29-02-2008, 20:41
i think the most intresting thing is how well your reflexes are to see if you can catch your controls when your alliance wall is hit from a robot going at full speed in hybrid mode:P . In all truth though, i think the hardest part is not going over the lines backwards during hybrid mode because you can never guarantee control over the robot. It brings up many penalties.

NOOOO!!! I wanted season two of the anything game to end while I was still close to the top! Darn you Freddy!

Anyway...

I think the addition of the hybrid angle to the autonomous mode was the best and hardest part. Out team has several programmers this year and there was so many choices for them! The hardest design challenge has been the 80 inch rule with the 40 inch ball!

Dan Petrovic

I think the most interesting challenge is grabbing the ball without violating the 80" rule

Jeff 801

I must say the hardest part of this years game is that the 80 in rule. As well as that the game piece is a 40 in ball. No matter what the hardest part is there are always people on FIRST teams that are able to figure out how to complete the game.
