Typically you would want to attatch a sprocket to the gearbox and a sprocket to the wheel and then use chain between them.

Sure, but why be typical?

The ratio is pretty good without the added chain reduction... I just wondered if it was possible to drive the new KOP wheels directly from the transmission with the various adapter that come in the kit.

The appeal of eliminating two gears and a chain is pretty high.
