We buy them at radio shack and then solder them on to a competition port which we plug in port 3 and then our programmer does something to make them work sorry I just manufacture

Radioshack and a place called Electronic Parts Outlet (http://www.epo-ecp.com/).

If you need more help and more specifics and I will see if I can help you.

If you are interested, The Blue Alliance did an episode about custom controls (http://www.thebluealliance.net/2006/12/28/episode-2-custom-controls/). The show notes do a pretty good job explaining how to wire up your own custom controls and adjust your code to take the input from them.

Mouser Electronics http://www.mouser.com/ is another catalog component distributor with a good on-line parts ordering system with no "next day" premiem's other than the actual cost of shipping.
