Well, it took a solid week of thought, pondering, and just plain yelling at each other, but we have our design for our robot, "Heavy Mettle."

1) Size (preferred)
a. 4'
b. longer than wide (38" x 28" wide)
2) Drive
a. Kit chassis
3) Ramps
a. 2 ramps
b. One on left and right sides of robot
c. 4" levitation
d. Robots drive parallel to us, to into us
e. 20 degree incline
4) Mechanisms for scoring
a. Piston arm
1. Pivoting arm from base
2. Telescoping arm
3. Bottom claw for grabbing tubes

Comments?

Oh, and by the way, for the record, we decided on the name "Heavy Mettle" before we heard the name "Rack 'n Roll"

Your team seems like they have a battle plan ready.

Is your team split up in different sub-groups? If so, is there a different sub-groups between the base, ramp, and scoring mechanism?

Do you guys have a timeline as well, and a date when you expect to start assembling everything or a date when the robot will be ready?

Pavan.

Yeah, it's been planned to the day from the start, with Fridays "off," as built in catchup days if needed. Our head mentor wouldn't let us do anythiing until both strategy and design were complete.

We're split into Electrical, Programming, Drive/Chassis, Mechanism, and Controls. Plus, mechanism is so packed that we have the man power to do that splitting.

Our team is experimenting with an interesting way of telescoping if you want me to post some drawings. it`s chain driven and only uses one motor - pretty much the way forklifts and stuff work.

The idea of a pivoting arm base works well with a length-oriented drive base. Sounds like you guys know where you`re headed!

Our team is looking into a forklift design and it would be much appreciated if you could post the design to telescope the arm with only one motor. Thanks!

I know this sounds redundant, but we're going the same route this year. There's only 12-15 of us on the team, so we kind of overlap team roles. Anyway, it'd be great to see how you'll be pulling it off!

Wow, we would all really appreciate the drawings, if you'd put them up. Thanks a lot!

Oh, and yeah, after last year, when we actually tried planning things (big surprise... it worked), our head mentor is now planning to the day, like I said. Thanks to all!
