Looks Good Guys, We are also building a "Double Decker" frame about 12'' high. We are using aluminum. Curious why steel?

I have often debated about using steal in a drivetrain. Would the wieght-to-strength ratio be better then alluminum if you used 1/32" wall?
What wall thickness are you using?
The steel is 1/16. Usually we would cut 4x4" box aluminum into c-channel, however, with the price of aluminum soaring, we couldn't find any. After comparing a custom built frame using the kitbot aluminum and the steal, this was only 4 pounds heavier.
also, we do not know anyone who can weld aluminum, so that also influenced the decision.
Oh, btw, the frame is upside-down for all those who haven't figured that out already =).

Sadly, my midnight brain didn't figure that out :p Great job so far this year Neill, I think you guys have a pretty good chance as long as you keep this momentum.

(tears up)
It's just so beautiful!
We've been underweight in the past with aluminum frames, adding steel plates at the end just to make up for the weight leftover. With a steel frame like this I don't think we'll have to worry about being underweight...
