We've mounted the light and wired it to the relay but it doesn't work. Is it only supposed to work during competition? I am positive I wired it correctly. I check it 5 times. Could the relay have burned up? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Dustin, If you wired the light according to the diagram on page 38 of the tips and good practices you need to check the 2007 Robot Signal Wiring Diagram. The wiring diagram has an additional jumper wire from 1 to 4 on the relay socket that the good practices one doesn't show. Also some teams got the wrong solid state relay in their KOP. Make sure you have 700-SK0C2Z25 which is a DC relay.

Is the signal light supposed to do anything more than be on when the main battery is supplying power, and off when it is not?

I have wired it according to the 2007 Robot Signal wiring diagram. The wrong relay could be the issue. I'll check the part number immediately after school. If the relay is the wrong one how would I go about getting the correct one.

Update #9 addresses this issue and gives you information on obtaining the correct relay.

Using version 13 of the main code, our signal light blinks when the robot is enabled and is on steady when the robot is disabled. I didn't notice anything different in behaviour between teleoperated mode and autonomous.

(We plugged in one of last year's team color lights just to see what it did. It alternated blinking red and blue, and I think the red signal is what drives the relay.)

Dustin,
I know that this is hard to see in the diagram in the Tips and Guidelines, but you need to add a jumper between terminals 1 and 4 on the relay for the light to turn on.

Actually I check the part number on the relay and we got the wrong one. I have emailed FRCParts but they haven't gotten back to me yet. I have doubled check my wiring and I do have a black jumper wire between 1 and 4.

Getting the right relay should clear things up. Let us know.

We had the wrong relay too and one of my mentors was able to work it out so that the light worked even with the wrong relay I will send him this thread and see if he can't tell you how he solved the problem.

I am guessing he wired it direct to the team color output.
