That is so awesome!

My friends and I were joking about different, odd ways to drive the robot.

Guitar
Beatboxing
Piano
DDR

last but not least...

Turntables!

That is outstanding! Great job, guys!

Please tell me your driver doubles as a DJ in his spare time.

I'm guessing holonomic drive. the turn table controls spin, and then the joystick for speed and direction.

Although the turn table could also be for gears for a shifting transmission maybe. I dunno. Great job though.

Yep, we are using custom mecanum wheels. You can see a little corner of one in the OI pic. There is a better view here: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/26677

Any significance to the song (Peter, Paul, & Mary's "Leavin' on a Jet Plane")?

Just that a mentor happened to have two copies of the same record so he gave us one. We were hoping for "I, Robot" - Alan Parsons or "Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto" - Styx.

Heh, I remember seeing that OI. It's a good way to control the spin of a mecanum bot, methinks. Plus the driver could look REALLY cool while driving that thing.
