This is a thread that existed on another board I used to be active on and was very popular. Much like the Ipod top 25 song thread, you are to screen shot your desktop for the world to see and than under your picture make a little comment.

Since many files that you guys will have will be above 100kb, I suggest saving your image in a .JPG format using http://ImageShack.us to host your picture so it uploads faster.

I cleaned my desktop for the first time in over six months yesterday and my desktop background is a screen shot from the movie Stranger than Fiction.

This is a thread that existed on another board..

Maybe it was this one ;)

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39806&highlight=post+desktop

It was on the second page of a "Post Desktop" search.

It's basically the same, minus the comments sometimes.

Once my desktop got About 1,000 icons on it, I just started making them invisible. It makes for more tranquil Feelings when I am using the computer :)

I have the Boston Skyline because it's an awesome picture, plus it's there to remind me that I need to work as hard as possible so I can go to school in Boston.

I'll get in on this revived topic.

I am quite happy with my aqua theme, and even happier with my clean desktop. Now, I must resist that urge to clutter it up....

It's my homage to winter... but it's spring now, so it will probably change in the next week or so... Personally, I think those birds are up to something... I think they're the reason we've only been getting the Audubon channel lately...

http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/5091/desktopjt7.th.jpg (http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=desktopjt7.jpg)To make it look even more genuine, search Google for "uxtheme.dll patch", then head on over to deviantart.com and download this theme (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/8615977/). (Locking the taskbar with the new theme will help even more.) And if you really want to overboard, you can even hit up some OS X icons (http://www.osx-e.com/downloads/icons/panther_icons.html) as well.

I currently use the previously linked theme and icons on my laptop, as Apple's Aqua theme is much easier on the eyes than the default Windows Luna (XP) or even Aero (Vista) themes, as both of them are too visually 'distracting' and try too hard for your attention. (Which is exactly the opposite to how a well-run operating system should work. You should never notice the operating system you use; it should be the applications and task at hand that should demand your attention.) ;)

My desktop is actually quite frightening. Some interesting points:
-Yahoo Widgets is sweet. One of those GMail boxes is a custom widget I downloaded, the other is the same widget, only I fixed quite a few stupid bugs in it. Yay open source!
-My background...comes from my FALCON (http://www.falconir.com/) board...it was later determined that my computer was at fault, not the board.
-My icons...it is like discovering remains of an old civilization as you dig from bottom right to top left. Some notes about the different phases, from newest to oldest:
> A bunch of MP4 files--encoded by SUPER (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html), they are formatted for my sister's new iPod nano.
> A document meant for my mom--detailed instructions about how to rip a CD and put the resulting MP3s on a player.
> myFairTunes, a program that makes fair use of iTunes-purchased songs possible.
> A file with my sister's username and password for her iTunes account in it...
> A free CD burner package
> Some MapQuest directions to the wrong fire station; we were doing a team community service food sort thing and I got the wrong address.
> AVG Free, the best free anti-virus software (tried Avast, didn't like it...too intrusive)
> Can't remember what's inside the text file, but above it is the spec sheet for the IR sensor (december gift).
> A flyer from the local bowling alley; gets you a discount if you come in with a copy.
> The next two items are a sponsorship letter I was going to send...and forgot to...I started working on it in good old Notepad, but with Word Wrap turned on, there was some "wonky-ness" when I saved the document. Afraid of losing it, I copied it into Word and finished.
> A couple of unimportant school-related documents.
> A playlist file from a ShoutCast (http://www.shoutcast.com/) metal station.
> I don't remember what the "tims message" was, but it has nothing to do with the FIRST TIMS...
> Another screen dump of the FALCON board.
> StepMania (http://www.stepmania.com/), the most amazing software I have ever downloaded in my life...ever.
> Timesheets for work, a picture of who knows what (I think it's my senior picture, but I'm not sure)

I'm stopping here because this post is already really long...but you get my drift...:ahh: :ahh: :ahh:
I should clean up....naah that's for losers lol

Image attached... A half decent 'mac'ification of Ubuntu Linux... and a load of programs below on the panel 'dock'.

Dock contents: Update manager, Advanced Desktop Effects Wizard (Compiz Config), Theme Manager, Amarok MP3 player, Bluefish HTML editor, three IDEs (eclipse the last of them), OpenOffice.org spreadsheet and word procesor, Genius Math tool, GIMP, Text editor (Gedit), Terminal, some funky webcam widget, basic calculator, Pidgin, network explorer of sorts, Liferea Feedreader, and last but not least Firefox.

My latest desktop... also using a railroad theme... my computer makes train sounds instead of beeps usual beeps.

If you love trains you'd love our new robotics shop site. Right outside the back door is a very active track that runs right behind us. You can hear the train coming from a mile away.

Just made it last night... I like it :D

It took me a couple of hours of tweaking because Inkscape kept closing on me and deleting all of my work. Then I had to figure out a way of converting it... I ended up printing the screen and trimming stuff away from that in paint so I could use it as a .bmp file.

p.s. I am aware that the FIRST logo is on there weird but its for personal use and is ok.

pps DISCLAIMER: I did not make and do not own the FIRST logo or the matrix backgrounds.

ppps that is just my background. Will post another picture of my actual desktop.

pppps PM me if you like it...

look on the very bottom for my desktop pic
LOL, I cleaned up my desktop for this!?!?! Oh well, it was too tempting not to do. As you can see my Vista Gadget points out I need a #44 drill bit for a mini wheel I recently purchased. I also keep all my programs at the top and files at the bottom. Other stuff goes in my 'stuff' folder. I recommend everyone makes a stuff folder on their desktop. For me it acts as my 'second desktop'. With the logo of the team I created in the middle I have to say, I love my desktop! I've got everything a FIRSTer needs, easyC, VB, Inventor, Revit, Adobe Reader, GIMP, IE7 (hey, wait where's my firefox!?), game maker, express_sch, and I'll just throw in a full recycle bin too. As for files, well there's that game maker file I started a while ago, my learning CAD of a dice from Inventor. Oh, some spare code from OpenOffice, my stuff folder, and some animation of my robot rolling its eyes I attempted. Some of this stuff is so old I dont know where it's from. Oh, and who could forget? My Acer Management widget toolbar thing. And my battery is at 66% percent or so, oh too bad, I don't currently have any mail. Oh and I have turned the stupid voice recognition thing off (doesnt work well with a built-in laptop mic) oh and my volume is at low, and hey it's my bedtime! That's a lot of stuff for a 13-year old!!!!

This is how it always looks. The background is a pic of the Go-Kart my Grandfather and I built in 2005. I keep the icons to a minimum, I hate a clutered desktop. Found an Instructable that shows how to make XP look Vistae without actualy having to use Vista. Might do that, If so I will post.

To explain a little... I've been watching Randall Munroe's lectures (thus the AVI file on my desktop), plan on moving to Linux after I'm done learning the basics on another computer, and plan on leaving microsoft's empire as soon as I'm converted...Also the Firefox 3 Beta 1 is actually Firefox 3 Beta , it just didn't change that when I upgraded.

Enjoy!

I got motivated today and did it. It may look like Vista but it is not. It is Windows XP. Posted a Pic to prove it. Found this mod on Instructables.com (http://www.instructables.com/id/WinXP-Overhaul-Guide-How-to-make-it-look-like-Vis/?ALLSTEPS)

I used DockTweak. Refer to this (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=183337) for a whole bunch of leopard customizations.
