Week 3 is already over, and is it just me, or is there still no thread for this Week 5 regional? Because I've searched a few times, never saw one.

Anyways, 115 will be ready to make huge improvements on the performance we had at SVR. 42nd out of 48 teams was not what we had hoped for, but we always fare better at later regionals, and assuming we got rid of the bugs we had, El Toro X will be something worth watching on the field.

Well? Who else will be there? You guys excited or what?

Oh yeah.....the team is getting prepared to defend their title :)

should be fun! we leave a week from tomorrow, two day drive.

FRC 100 is working on improving our scouting system.

Its been years since we actually had to chose an alliance and we are a bit rusty. It was fun playing with 114 and 973, but it was a poorly chosen alliance. 973 had a great ramp system that lifted many robots... but they were unable to lift neither 114 nor 100...

I have to say, that both 114 and ourselves underestimated the power of ramps. We thought that an alliance of two powerful tube-scorers would make for an easy victory.

However 60 points is hard to beat when you're constantly being battered by defensive lifters (like 488):o

Anyone know the ratio of ramps to tubers at Davis?

Veselin Kolev

I'll be at Davis, volunteering. Reffing or inspecting or both, dunno yet.

Davis will be a very tough regional, because most of the teams going there had their first regional at SVR, and will have worked out the bugs in their robots. There will be some serious competition, it'll be a great regional.

All you people from my old teams, come say hi, I'll be wearing my trademark straw hat. And if you just wanna say hi, feel free :P. See you there!

I can't wait for the Davis regional, especially when all of these good robots and teams from SVR are going to be there. 1726 should be even stronger this year than last (although last year was more luck...). We almost took the Arizona regional, and I'm sure we can get a working autonomous and well built claw when we get there.

Yeah, definitely need to improve your scouting system. I remember Andrew standing there with a pile of papers with random scouting data, where as I had a nice half sheet of paper with two columns for ramp and scoring bots.

I've been watching matches off of TBA (which rocks by the way!) and I've noticed a couple methods that hardcore scoring alliances have pulled through victories versus ramp bot alliance that we did not do at SVR. One hint: Aim High :p

Can't wait for Davis, its gonna rock. My personal goal is to average over 4 ringers scored per match throughout the weekend, and maybe even get a keeper or two on ;)

See you all in a week and a half!

I know 701 is going to rock the house!

Seriously though, this is my first year as an alum and I can't wait to see ya'lls bots this year.

701 is one of the teams I'm really interested in seeing this regional. I saw one of your practice videos and my jaw dropped. You guys looked incredibly smooth. Have you guys got any ramps on yet?

This will be team 997s first show at Davis/Sacramento and we cant wait.
we were at PNW week 1 and waiting 4 weeks is just killing the entire team,
Best of luck to you all at the competition

753 will be showing up again.
After making Finals last year (in a close loss) were hoping to reclaim-some fame.
We love UC Davis, looking forward to meeting you other teams.

(Edit. Glad to see 997 showing up)

Huh? What happened/why?

During the Bayou Regional we had problems with one side not lifting so we just took them off. For Davis we are adding sides and a "stopper" on our single ramp so a robot wont have to worry about rolling off the ramp.

1351 will be there. Like 115, 38/48 at SVR was not so satisfying, so we will see what can be improved (Namely, our arm which we only got working for our final qualifier and didn't even use then). Our chassis is still goin strong though, so look for us with the best defense you've ever seen. :D

bhsrobotics1671
20-03-2007, 01:47
1671 will be there for sure!!
we have came a long way since last year
working off a very tight budget and using plywood to construct most of the bot to getting a major sponsor, PELCO, to step in and help us out this year. Thanks to them i dont think we would have made it any further than last year. Our programmers are doing excellent, so many things programmed it is pretty much idiot proof to the point when ur driving it, its very hard to screw something up.

we are also proud to announce we will be hosting sundial at this event. it is very possible that we may need 2-3 extra people to help run the system and keeping it up to date since as of now its me, and our head programmer who are both going to be extremely busy. so if you are interested in helping come stop by at comp! i have been talking to pat all night, a few bugs in the program but they should be fixed shortly.

p.s. does anyone know if they have released match schedules yet? it would help us severely in inputing it all into sundial before the comp.

thanks!

Zyik
20-03-2007, 02:27
973 will be there with a better ramp and scoring arm. We're always willing to run defense and our improved ramps should make it so that we are climbable by everyone.

701 will be there... rockin the house! I'm very impressed with what our team has come up with this year.

And I will finally get to see our matches from the stands this year! It's been like 4 years since i did that!

This looks to be one of the most competitive and exciting regionals of the year, I'm really disappointed that I can't go. :( With all of the fast scoring robots competing, I expect there to be many near full racks. Someone be sure to document everything so those of us who are less fortunate can see some of the action!

Go 1726!

I take it Sundial is a scouting program?

Guy Davidson
20-03-2007, 17:38
Sundial isn't a scouting program, but it is useful. It is a program that hosts the schedule and tells you when your next match is, and what your alliance is.

We actually revised our scouting system greatly this year in hopes of picking. While that didn't happen (43/48 :X) we still have some decent to high quality data from SVR. If any of the teams competing at Davis would like to see it, just ask. We can also share the program we used (768's program with some modifications) and the sheets we used.

yes, sumadin is right. Its not really a scouting program, its more like the FIRST scoring program, but some what personalized for individual teams. If you would like to get a preview of what its about and how it works here is a link to this years version set up for last years game.

Since I wasn't able to make Silicon Valley Regional last weekend, I will be returning to the Davis Regional volunteering as a referee again.

I really look forward to this because so many Cal Games Teams are showing up! (100, 114, 115, 766, 1280, 1351...)

See you next weekend!

I hear at the Sacramento Regional, they've declared that the pit size is smaller than usual. (9' by 9')
This is going to make so much trouble! Not only are we going to have to find a new way to fit all our stuff into the pit but we're going to have to cut large sections off the frame and remake it. *frustration*

*now for the positive stuff*
Our pit is going to be right beside 997's! (PNW Champs) :D
Gonna be great! Good luck everybody!

I can't wait for Davis, especially with our buddies over at Team 100 going as well.

Also, we get to meet some teams we've not seen before. This'll be 675's first year at Davis, and we hope to do really good.

Heh, I thought you had disappeared, Jefferies. (And yes, I'm aware you're going to RIT).

Yeah, we've been doing pretty good. We made it to the semifinal rounds with the #3 Alliance at SVR. Gloria had her arm taken off -- it was useless anyways and now we make weight. If you want more information, feel free to PM me.

Anywho, 675 is hoping for a Regional win or Regional Runner-up (Preferrably the first, but we'll have to see). We're really glad to be doing as good as we are and we want to go to Nationals.

I 2nd this, I got mine today too.

I sent that out. With 39 teams, and the 15' x 30' Practice Field, it was felt there wasn't room for 10x10 pits so it got reduced to 9'x9'. Not my decision - just the bearer of bad news. I do apologize for not getting that info out earlier, it was dicussed 3 weeks ago, but I didn't realize the finality of it until I got the pit layout this Wednesday. Our team has gone ahead and reduced our PVC Structure to 9'x9' (easy for PVC). If you have a 10' banner, maybe the sides can wrap around 6" on each side? A metal pit structure? I'll pm you. Sorry folks, if we continue to expand this regional, we may very well end up on the 3rd floor. It could be worse.

Better to get this information now than show up in Davis expecting a bigger one. At least teams have time to adjust their pit. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for understanding. After seeing some of the pits at Bayou and last year at PNW, we've toyed with making a pit out of 80/20 or BOSCH extrusion. Luckily we keep taking the cheap way out and continue using PVC.

Davis is two days away, who else is stoked?

Tomorrow, I get to bring my luggage to school so that it can be driven over to Sacramento to our hotel, then Thursday morning I get to wake up at like 5AM (I'm going down before the rest of my team, who are leaving at 8:15AM from our school) so I can go get Gloria and our pit ready.

Good luck to everybody and I hope to have a great time!

I can't wait. Its gonna be awesome! There are going to be a lot of out-of-state teams there too.
Teams I want to meet:

-1359 (I want more pirate pins:] )
-1072
-997

We'll definitely be breaking out the ramps at Davis ;)

ROFL! I kid. We don't have any ramps! But I scared you there didn't I?!:D

But anyways, I'm looking forward to Davis, but like SVR, I won't be showing up til Friday morning with most of the guys. MVRT will be there in full force, and I mean in numbers too, you'll see quite a lot of purple, at least I hope you do.

the last alliance has to be 1652, 295 and 1726.

and alliance 2 looks like it should be 852, not 652

There is a web cast - check the robotics.nasa.gov page.

Semi finals going on now. #1 alliance advanced after 5 matches with # 8 alliance (2 ties)!

Winners = 100, 997, 1458
#1 seed alliance, we seeded second and got picked by 100
Chairmans = 1359

don't know the others right off the top of my head
but yeah
that's 2 regionals we won this year :-) :-)
It was SUCH a tough competition

Yeah, the master of ceremonies said is was the hardest competition he'd seen of the past weeks.

I was really impressed by 701s performance. They are made up of almost entirely freshman, but they placed second and took home the Driving Tomorrow's Technology award for their work with carbon fiber.

Look out next year, this carbon fiber stuff is only going to get bigger with the Robovikes.

Congrats to everyone to make this regional so intense, and special thanks to the Chairman winners.

Thank you to everyone that was there, that was an intense competition. And a huge thanks to alliance 8, 1662, 295, 1726, for that 5 round streak. awesome job to all of you. and of course, our alliance. 100, awesome scoring bot as well as awesome, nice, fun people. 997, your elevators are incredible, as well as being a great D bot, on top of having a cool, professional team. thanks again to everyone who was with and against us in qualifyings, as well as everyone in the finals.

Yes, I would like to say some of the same things as Alekat:

Team 701 was awesome out there today, Great job! I was very impressed that a team built almost entirely out of new members could continue building the same quality of robot that we (the alumni) spent 3-4 years learning how to make!
Props to our Allies 852 and 2035 as well!
and congrats to 100, 1458 and 997 -- you guys were a very good opponent and definitely deserved the title... it was a good clean game, fair and square and most importantly INTENSE -- it could have gone either way ... making it very suspenseful for us poor audience members

So this is our teams 2nd straight silver @ Davis
We'll be back next year ... 3rd times the charm as they say.

What an amazing regional that was! I would have to say that was a lot more intense than SVR for sure.

Like I figured, 115 really did improve at this regional, we still had some bad luck, but we had some awesome matches, and the team had a lot of fun. And winning two awards on Friday, that was just amazing.:)

And Alliance 8 really surprised me there, especially in their first match against Alliance 1, seeing both 100 and 997 knocked over really caught me off guard, the whole place just went crazy when that happened.

Congrats to all the teams at this regional for all their hard work.

We at Team 115 are really happy with our team's improvement from SVR to Davis, going from a bottom 10 team to getting picked for eliminations. ( In the last qualification match we scored 4 ringers and a spoiler, which was the highlight of the day for us).

A special thanks goes out to team 1351, TKO for supplying us with not one but two carrier plates for the banebots transmission, once in SVR, and once in Davis. (Banebots "new and improved" carrier plates seemed to fail as well) Thanks guys, you really saved us.

The yellow card wasn't even given then. the next match they rammed 100 again so our alliance leader talked to the referees about it.

What was the second yellow card?

outstanding event
really intense. had to be one of the best. really dissapointed we didnt get picked for the finaly matches. our first round on friday we lost due to a penalty by another team on our alliance, another round we lost 4-5, our team contributing the only points there. i thought we were a very well rounded team, but thats the way things work. i am really impressed with all the teams and their support for each other. Big thanks to all the teams that helped us out in giving us replacement banebot transmissions:100(great job this year guys), 753, 1726, and 114.

well there is much more to talk about im sure, ill be back on here tomorrow most likely, right now its time to get some much needed sleep!

For us the real finals were quarter-finals.

omg... How we made it through I shall never know...

If there was ever a match with two perfectly even alliances... That was it.

-1662 - Played AMAZING defense. Our bumpers are literaly in tatters thanks to them. The sheer pushing force of that 6-wheeler is amazing.

-295 - Very effective ramps. We had no idea this robot would be such an effective lifter. Truely a unique ramp system.

-1726 - Powerful offensive bot that easily matched us when it came to tubing. They really packed a punch in the defense department too.

It was a real slap in the face that first match - total catastroohic failure for our alliance. Two robots fliped in the first minute, tube on our flag (penalty:(), and a massive score for blue alliance.

But CONGRATS to alliance #1!

997 is an amazing lifter. They literaly lifted our robot after the bell, giving us maximum time to score tubes.

Don't underestimate 1458. They played offense for our alliance, not defense... And got at least 1 tube a match - which is a lot considering the defense being played out there. They also rescued us repeatedly when a tube landed on our flag.

First regional victory in 8 years for FRC 100. First regional victory in 4 weeks for FRC 997:D

Nice job to everyone who made Davis awsome!

Congratulations to all teams (Especially Team 100 and their winning alliance! Good job), and we hope to see at least a few of you in Atlanta (we know we'll see 100 at least).

675, much to all of our amazement, won the Engineering Inspiration award. Honestly, nobody expected that, and I'll be honest, I was crying for like an hour afterwords knowing that after 7 years, 675 would be going to Atlanta.

Many thanks to Team 114 (Eaglestrike, you guys were AWESOME!) and 2159 (Robopirates, thanks for the help, I'll be sure to visit sometime) for their help in the elimination rounds. We played well, guys.

I have to admit, Davis was awesome. I got about 200mb worth of pictures and video, so I'll probably put those in a .rar and upload them (even the Team 675 pictures, I'm sure somebody else wants those).

Hope to see you all in Atlanta,

We finally stopped driving for the night, and the motel has free wifi, so here's a picture from the first quarterfinal match...997 and 100 stayed up for the remaining 4 takes on the first quarterfinal, and with 1458 took the quarter, and hung in there win the finals...great job!

Let me start by staying we were SO exited to be picked by 100, and 1458 made an awesome second pick :yikes:

well that quarterfinal was the most freaked out I have EVER been!
now we hve had some close calls before, like loosing out first match in both the quarter and semi finals at PNW, but 5 ROUNDS!... DANG!
Our compressor was on fire! :ahh: :ahh:

I looked at our video from those matches and as we pointed out to the refs, it should hav only been 4. That does not matter, the only thing that matters was that we all had a great time and build GREAT robots :) :)

I hope to see the award winners and the other winners at nationals
and as in every competition there are teams that deserve to be going to nationals who are not. Davis was a gea competition and for our first time going we thought that the place was very inviting and we might just come back some other year :-)

ALSO
I have our video from Friday and Saturday where we just shot an overview of the field, when I get it put up I will make sur to get up a link.

Just to tease everyone about the fierce competition at Davis/Sac - I've uploaded QF1.1 to SOAP (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2007/movies/sac/). I know the file is very big and once I re-do the video sizes I'll get them up over the next few days.

Props to 100/997/1458 - they're an awesome alliance.

Thanks for uploading QF Match 1.1. I really wish you could hear the crowd better though, because when Team 100 got knocked over, it was almost deafening.

I mean, talk about a very, very brutal match. Two bots knocked over, tons of ringers on the rack for the blue alliance, and bonus points for the blue alliance.

When the emcee said that Week 5 (more specifically, Davis) was probably the fiercest regionals, He was not kidding. It was an utterly amazing regional.

1351 took home the Johnson & Johnson Sportsmanship award. Special thanks to team 1280 for giving us a lift and the FemBots, team 692, for playing some awesome defense and eating pizza with us.

Team 1280's rachet system popped out after one heavy match and our robots didn't stay elevated. It's because they were too awesome in their defense against 852 and 701. Congrats to that alliance as well.

Also, thanks to team 115 for being awesome. Their robot was great to admire and their last qualification match with us against team 100 was also a real blast. That last second spoiler was certainly something to cheer about.

Congrats to the winning alliance! 977,100,1458 you guys were awesome.

That was a feirce regional. It was so much harder than the Portland regional (week one) By the end, my brain was hurting. It was tough.

We won the Imagery Award (4th year in a row):D
Our mentor, Bill (Buzzy) Buskirk won the Woodie Flowers Award!:D
And we won the Chairmans Award!:D

One match i'd like to point out was our match against 2063 and 766 in qualifying. The second I found that we were against you, I thought we were doomed. As we were cued up, one of our allliance partners told us they wouldn't make it so I changed our strategy from a balance of defence and offence to 100% offence in hopes of getting enough tubes on to counter your inevitable 60 point ramp. Right before the game started, our alliance partner arrived and announced that thier robot would work fine. We still went with the offence strategy but it was a CLOSE game. we got a row of 5 whereas you got a row of 4 and a couple singletons. Halfway through the match, one of our trannies failed and we could hardly move so our driver somehow crawled our way around the feild and tried to get up our partner's ramp. We couldn't. Our other alliance partner cam and bumped us real hard and we only got the 15 extra points whereas our opponents got 30. We won that match 51-50.Good game guys, it was amazing.:D

That alliance partner that ended up working was 115:D. I was scouting in the stands and had no info on the situation, so when that manipulator opened up, the whole team roared with excitement. Bumping you guys up and scoring 4 ringers made that match the highlight of that day for us. The only better match for us was the one where we faced 100 on Saturday morning.
By the way, we also had a column of 2 to go with that row, and it really did matter with that match being won by only 1 point.

Just another example of the awesome competition that was on display at this regional, very exciting, very action packed, and definitely a lot of fun for everybody.

And finally, congrats to 1359 on the awards, especially on the Chairman's Award.

On behalf of Team 1726, we would like to offer Teams 100, 997, and 1458 a huge congratulation for their victory at Davis. Those Quarter-Final matches were absolutely intense, and I don't think that there's ever been a closer match this year. After the loss, our team was rooting for you guys the whole way, just because you were absolutely awesome opponents and even greater teams. I honestly believed that all three teams deserved to win, especially 100. That display of GP at the end was astounding, and I was very surprised to hear that team 100 had not won a regional for many years.

By the way, Davis probably was, as the MC said, the most competitive of all of the regionals this year. It was definitely worth the 14 hour drive! :D

Edit: One more thing. Congrats to Team 1359 for winning the Chairman's award. As being part of the Chairman's award team for 1726, I can say that you guys deserved to win that as well. We came close, but hey, there's always next year. Good luck to all teams at Nationals. Hopefully I'll be there with our Vex team, Team 3495.

Another Edit: I almost forgot, thanks Team 100 for helping us with the high score during the regional qualifying rounds. I had no idea that we would be able to score 260 points like that!

Once again, awesome, awesome, regional. Thanks to all teams, sponsors, mentors, volunteers, and of course the UC Davis campus for holding such an awesome event!

couple things,
1: 1662's scouts were impressive, any team that can put up that much of a fight against a number 1 seed, after 5 minutes of deliberation in selection. has to be good
2. hey! we couldn't have let the number 1 seed win that easily

Ah well. Perhaps we can win some other strange/random award next year.

Man, nobody on my team knew we were going to Nationals until one of the Ref's said "Good luck in Atlanta". We all pretty much lost our minds at that point.

We've decided that as long as we don't finish dead last for our sect, that we've done something worthwhile.

Darn, that's a bit of a bummer. Our team would have loved to have seen you guys there, had we qualified as well. We'll be sending up our Vex team, and I believe that our members would have enjoyed your team's company.

Anyway, good luck with any other future projects your team might have. Here's hoping that we'll be able to see you guys again sometime soon!:)

I want more N.E.R.D.S. Buttons. I have like 3 or 4 (I was the person at Davis with that sweatshirt covered in buttons) but they're just so awesome.

We'll be sure to try and bring some more at the Championship, that is if we have any left. I think that we were fresh out after Sacramento was over, but we may have some more left.

It is sad that 1359 is not going to be at nationals :-(

FRC 1726 isn't going to Nationals, but FVC 3495 (Team Dark Matter) will be there watching and participating in the Vex competition. I hope we'll be able to see at least one of the SAC teams in the final matches, after FVC is done for the day.

Glad you were able to meet one of our parents/mentors in person. Mr. Forbes was there taking tons of pictures, as well as providing lots of valuable insight for our team. He also seemed to take to the FIRST credo pretty well; GP is also one of my favorite, if not my favorite, aspects of FIRST. I love being able to help out others, and it also feels great knowing that if you need to fix your bot, there will be several teams willing to help, with at least one of them being your opponents in a previous or upcoming match. I guess rivalry between teams only really exists for 2 minutes and twenty seconds at a time.:D

Correction, 2 minutes and 15 seconds at a time.

And that is so true.

At SVR, 675 hit 1868 pretty hard into a wall and we're pretty sure, damaged them. Right after the match, I went over to 1868's pit to help them out -- they didn't need repair because of us, but for their drive system from an earlier issue. I pointed some stuff out, they fixed it, then I was on my way.

I've also showed up at random team's pits and asked if they've needed help before. It never hurts to ask!

We had a meeting right after we got home and decided that we'll have a better chance next year. But you guys rock, you have a chance at winning. I'd like to know how many other teams won 2 or more regionals.:D

Hehe, I forget which team it was, but at the beginning of the day they had all their electronics all sitting on the work bench instead of in the robot where it usually is. They were trying to bolt down their electronics panel later in the day and one of the students stripped the bolt end off.

It seemed like they had been through a lot of stress, and they didn't have any more of the bolt they needed. I walked up (still in my volunteer shirt) and asked them calmly if I could take the broken bolt. Then I walked over to my old pit (701 alumni here) right next door and rummaged through one of the bolt boxes until I found a couple of similar size. I handed them off and they seemed a little shocked.

You'd be suprised how many teams aren't aware of the comradare in the pits, especially rookie teams. I see lots of signs up in the pits, I think it would be great if teams started advertising their willingness to help other teams in a more concrete way. And it looks good for the judges eh?

Can someone please explain to me why there is no information from this regional on the FIRST website?

There were "issues" with the field internet connection. All the UC Davis IT guys were off for "Ceasar Chavez Day" so we couldn't find our way out through the firewall on Friday or Saturday. We couldn't send results using the field software and so had to use the alternate e-mail method.

Friday results went out Friday night. The Final results were sent off Saturday about 11pm -after teardown and dinner for those loading the truck. OK we really took our time enjoying the dinner (Thanks Corey!)

So maybe the guy who is supposed to post them was too busy keeping fields running on Saturday and decided to spend some time with his family on Sunday? Or maybe he spent Sunday trying to get home after weeks on the road? I know I spent a significant amount of time with Field Tech support on both days. If other events spent the same amount of time they would have been pretty tied up and frankly posting the results would have been pretty low on my priority list in comparison to keeping fields running.

If instant results were that important to you, you should have been there.:p

I was there, and figuring out the match results and standings in the pits is pretty difficult with the new display (compared to last year)....when the standings reaches the end, it resets at the top and immediately scrolls down, so it takes some time and effort to catch the top ones. And I never did figure out how to read the match results.....

Maybe the problem is that my eyes aren't what they used to be :)

The ranking screen did have a problem, especially if you were #1 seed. There was no real results screen except the "ticker" at the bottom. You never knew if the team above you in rank had a better W/T/L record or just more QPs. On earlier versions you could adjust the speed of the display, but that disappeared in the version used this past weekend. The other list was the upcoming matches.

It was definitely not your eyes, at least mine had the same trouble.

Did anyone else notice that they added the match # and a real time clock to the main scoring display on the big screen? They really are listening at FIRST and 4FX and we often don't give them enough credit for what has been achieved to date in our efforts to "correct" percieved problems.

Yeah it was weird. The ring scores and bonus on the screen did not add up to be the total scores at the bottom of the screen. But didn’t know what they add to it. So they added the match number?

Sounds like us, 1960! Thursday was a little blurry as we had some "minor" last minute repairs to make! (they took all day).

I would like to thank all the teams that provided us with support. I constantly sent kids out begging for parts, pieces, programmers, mechanical advice and more. They NEVER came up short thanks to all the great teams at Davis! :)

Question, about the "We've got spirt, yes we do, we've got spirt, how bout you." Chant. Is there a history / tradition behind it? I've never heard it before. This was also my first time in Davis though.

We had our own chants, took them from the rallies back at school too:

We have hats! We have a hat of the same design as your's but it's black and has a jolly roger on it. We also gave out pirate hats as our awards.

No love for a "Blowing Bubbles" award? ;)

I have to admit, most of my other team didn't find Davis as fun as SVR, I thought it was better. Especially with 1351 and 1072 (and me) joining in on the spirit chant then switching sides randomly, plus all the dancing.

Ha. I do agree. Davis is more of a goofy regional therefore it's much more fun. SVR is a bit more competitive. The dancing was incredibly fun, such as the kickline. And we randomly switched sides for the spirit chanting because we realized we were chanting against our alliance partners for the finals. Still good fun.

Yeah it was weird. The ring scores and bonus on the screen did not add up to be the total scores at the bottom of the screen. But didn’t know what they add to it. So they added the match number?

The bar at the bottom of the screen may or may not be for the same match as the Final Score. They are independent of each other. Once the scoring table figured this out we tried to make sure they stayed the same, but sometimes we goofed or we had to go ahead and change the lower bar to get set up for the next match.

The lower bar has a "tab" on the top that indicates the match number. The number on the right of the tab indicates how many seconds are left in that portion of the match. It starts at 15 for automode and counts down to zero, when telemode starts it goes to 120 and counts down from there.

The Final Score screen reflects what went into the database for that match. It also says what match the score is for. If the scores on the bar and the Final screen are different, then check the match numbers, they should be different as well. Be sure to include the effects of any penalties as these are not included in the scoring bar but are in the Final Score.

It makes perfect sense once you understand it all.

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing. But I was talking about the final-score screen's sum score. The screen listed ring scores and bonus scores then have 2 large number at the bottom to indicate the sum. The sum wasn't what the list add up to be.

ChrisH

The two large numbers at the bottom with the array of dots in between are the part of the Final Score screen you should ignore. That is the "lower bar" and is used during a match to display the rack score real time. This score does not include bonuses or penalties. But it is the most visually prominent, so people often topok it to be the "real" score.

Also if the guy at the scoring table is not paying attention then it might not be displaying the rack score for the match that is being displayed at the top in the Final Score screen. It was easy to advance the lower bar to the next match or to have it up while trying to correct a score from a previous match (fumble fingered refs  ). This would result in results from two different matches being displayed simultaneously. The imporant screen is the Final Match Score screen. That is the one that has the official score for the match.

There obviously needs to be some human engineering on this part of the scoring system. The bright side is that no matter what, we will need a new scoring display next year. The scoring and field management system were so much more reliable than last year that I will gladly put up with a few minor complaints this year. Next year when 4FX has more time to focus on "peripheral" issues things should be better yet.

I've never dealt with SOAP before,
would they mind if we put up matches that were not from the big screen?
Because our scouting team is almost done with the matches they video taped, and I personally like the field overview that they did more then the big screen...
it is easier to see everything that is going on
