Confused about Atlanta

due to travel time, and budget constraints, going to atlanta is tricky for my team, so we only go if we can perform well. therefore we did not register in the fall. we can perform, but now an issue is being brought up, because we won the championship last year we qualify for a place in atlanta. but this seems to be limited to pre season [fall] registration... im really confused... does this mean we still have to win a qualifying award to go? or get picked? this is what we're working on and its a possibility but it would be nice to know that our spot that we won last year is still open to us...

anyone have any insights into the workings of FIRST championship registrations?:eek:

I believe you can still register since you won last year, it's as if you won an award this year. Winning the championship the year before is an automatic qualifier.

The teams list for nationals does not have your team on there, but i think thats because you havent registered for it. I would call FIRST and get the information because they might give away your spot during the weeks before the event.

FIRST usually does an open registration period at the end of regional qualifications. You'll probably be able to get in then.

The Championship Eligibility Criteria (http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc/content.aspx?id=944) says nothing about pre-qualifying teams having to register in the fall. Therefore, FIRST should still have a spot reserved for 296.
