We're already planning ahead for the 2007 Rachacha Ruckus here in Rochester NY. If your team is down in Atlanta and have never been to the Ruckus please seek out team 1511 Rolling Thunder or talk to their mentor here on CD for a personal invitation package. This will be the 3rd annual event hosted by the local Finger Lakes Teams.

The time frame is typically Halloween weekend time frame in October. It's a fun time for all - if you have suggestions for team activities you'd like to see please let Kim O'Toole, Koko Ed, or myself know and we can see what we can do.

Hope your team can come do the Rachacha!:)

I want to make it this year, but I doubt 1089 will make the trek up there. Though, I think we've finally convinced our advisor to let us do IRI so maybe there's some hope. I'll see if I can make it, at least to volunteer though!

If we have any left after we give out the invites, we can pass a bag your way :) But the bags are aimed for teams that havent come before (so start another rookie team, and they get a bag!!)

Anyways, another SPECIAL TREAT... the goodie bags will include a set of puzzles, the first new team to solve the puzzles and turn them in to our pits will get FREE registration for Ruckus 2007!!

Kim,
I believe we are lucky enough to have it at Webster Thomas HS again this year. The facilities and support from Bob Schlegel is unbelievable. We just need to finalize the date again since I remember that there might have been some conflict with volleyball or something. I'll email Bob about it next week.

I think it all depends on how many teams we have this year. I think if we had about the same number as last year, we should do bash style. But if we get a lot more, we should do pickings.

We will see on the selection process... And Alex, if you bring a team, you can help decided that :p

We basically have done a straight assignment of teams in serpentine fashion (like 1, 8, 24; 2, 9, 23; etc). But we may switch it up... you never know! We liked this at Bash because teams didnt have to worry about scouting, they could just have fun, show their new drivers what to do, etc. Plus it gives teams more time for matches (we dont have to stop for selections, just for lunch). Since we try to use this event to help Rookie teams, and many teams dont have their full team to help scout, it seems more fun/fair to just do it at will or at random. Just my thoughts. We will see what the committee says!

I have a little more information. :)

I now have 3 possible schools to work with. I will be doing a little presentation to two more schools soon and hopefully hear back from the school i donated my senior project robot to and possibly get it back. The sole reason of donating it in the first place was to get the team started, but it's been 2 years and nothing has happened, so i am going tl try to get it back and mod it to work for the Ruckus.

with that being said, i think it's an 04 OI system, what would i have to do to get it able to play in the Ruckus?

I respectfully state that if I were a competitor at this event, I think I'd prefer the top seeded teams have the option to pick their own alliances. Because the intermixing of the alliance robots' functions is so critical to the alliance's strategy and success this year (Can you climb our ramps? How many ramps do we want in the alliance? Do we want a 2 defensive/1 offensive alliance or another configuration? etc.), I don't think random pairings would be the best choice for the elimination rounds. For example, what if numbers worked out such that 3 defensive/rampbots ended up in one alliance? I don't think any of those 3 teams would enjoy that too much. Although it would be fun to see full team defense played against an alliance, I don't think it would work for very long. You run the risk of formulating too many weird/incompatible alliances, and then the gameplay in the elims would suffer.

Just my opinion. Hopefully you guys get a ton of teams this year and you can run a standard playoff operation.

Understood & agreed, but I also think it might make for more non-traditional strategy. For teams that can run the same strategy they ran in regionals and in championships, I think it would be boring and predictable. Our most fun match was a match in Boston where we were with 2 ramp bots (one without wheels!), and were against three scorers, two of which were fairly consistant. We ran a very crazy strategy that would have worked except for one misinterpretation of the rules.

Besides, in my mind, I like offseason events that are fun, and allow teams to throw any team member into the driveteam (we do this at Bash every year... every student that goes gets a chance to be on the driveteam). When you feel like you have to be serious to get your rank up there, teams tend not to do things like this. They focus on winning. But just my opinion, not necessarily what the committee will decide :)

I guess we will have to see what kind of teams sign up. Maybe we could do a random selection by category (ie scorers, rampbots, bothbots). I dunno... its far from decided... the committee can discuss it :)

Don't forget about us iPirates over here in Monroe Michigan. We are still interested in attending are putting it on our calenders. That is if our robot makes it that far. We are currently applying for IRI, our own event MARC (in August), Ford Team FIRST Invitational, and the Ruckus. WE are going to be busy but we want to do everything possible to work again with 1126 and hopefully 1038. I would like to see how we would do again.

As for three defensive robots competing against scoring bots, that happened to us at the Buckeye Regional twice and we won both rounds.

Actually we, 1507 and 174 we're more offensive based. We tried defense the first match and failed miserably. So we tried scoring the next match and put up 258. THe last match was all about the offense.
As for 537, 494 and 70. They are all scorers. That alliance was designed to kill people via the rack.

OK the first Ruckus meeting has come and gone and we've settled (tenatively) on a date depending on the availability of Webster Thomas.
We also discussed what kind of field we would like to go with and how to attract volunteers and teams.
Now we need volunteers for the Ruckus planning commitee. In case of any of you haven't heard Kim is getting married this year and this is actually one thing that actually takes precedence over robotics:ahh: (shocking I know. We tried to convince Kim to use game sound effects and other first elements in her wedding "Bride side ready! Groom side ready. 3...2...1...GO!" or the ding ding for an I Do and the dreaded foghorn if there were second thoughts. Kim didn't seem so enthused about the idea for some reason) ANyone in the Western Upstate New YOrk area who wants to help out the next meeting will be June 7th at Penfield high school at 6pm.
Hope to see you there.

I have to admit, any "meeting" with Ed in it is always entertaining. I have no clue who could come up with Bride Side, Groom Side ::sigh:: :)

But yes, as he said, anyone in the Rochester area (or beyond if you really really like to drive!) interested in helping out the Ruckus committee is welcome to attend our next meeting (June 7th). Please PM me so I can add you to the email list.

One small request, any students interested in joining need to bring an adult team member/parent/etc with them.

Are there any updates as to what is going on with the Ra Cha Cha Ruckus this year? Any information would be loved if you can release it.

A few quick questions that you all may already know the answer to.

Registration - is it the same price as it has been for the past 2 years?
Eliminations - is it still that the top 8 don't pick there alliance but rather it is selected for them by the rankings?
Date - is it going to be the weekend before halloween?

Just a few quick questions that can help us all start planning a little better for it.

Ed, Greg, Kim,

Are there any updates as to what is going on with the Ra Cha Cha Ruckus this year? Any information would be loved if you can release it.

A few quick questions that you all may already know the answer to.

Just a few quick questions that can help us all start planning a little better for it.

The main holdup is trying to get information on what field we're planning to use. We're trying to get information on the FIRST feild and we are considering Andy Baker's field as well.

Just wondering if an official date has been set yet because I need to plan the trip soon before my calendar fills up.

I've seen 3 different dates so far, Oct. 27 in CD Events, and the Nov. 3 or 10 here.

So if anyone knows the official date that would be great. Thanks.

What can I say about Canadians? We not be able to hold all that gets put on us but we make sure that you get your just desserts!

On a side note, the teams were awesome at this event and beware of a team call Naz-A-Rex as they pulled off an awesome rookie showing using different loner bots during the competition.

Also a note for Team 191. Not only were you gracious for sharing your robot with Naz-A-Rex but the robot didn't seem to fail all day. Great job on your 2007 robot.
