List is still missing the Winners from LoneStar and Davis Sacramento.
Who is going to be the next star the Hall of Fame?
Who is going to take the next Championship CA Trophy home?
Any ungerdogs?
I've seen a lot of new team emerging up and couple of teams from last year holding their spots. Its gonna be fun!!

Here you go Madi:
As posted here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55049)yesterday.
* Lone Star Regional
C.A. - 922 Ultimate
E.I. - 118 Robonauts
R.A. - 2158 Trobots
Also, if Chairman's was given out at all 37 regionals, you are still one short on your list including LS & DS Regionals.
Dave
So many good bets this year... 365 and 503 are both previous honorable mentions, 236 is a five-time regional winner, 190 is an original team, and 71 and 217 are just legendary. It should be interesting to see.

I call MOE (365), unless anything changed in their presentation/what they do for the worse from last year to this year, they will win. We're talking about a team that has been very close to winning the past 6 years, and last year nearly beat out 111 to win. They're balanced, they always have new ideas and projects they're working on, and THEY ARE FIRST in Deleware and have a strong presence in the Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey area.
There is no other team like MOE.

Well you have some of the perennial powerhouses up on that list who will have the best chances of winning: 217, 71, 365, 79, 75, 503
But there are also some great teams on that list who have really come along in the past couple years, and would be very deserving of the award; 612, 1511, 1305, (and probably more that I don't know enough about). Every team that wins a regional Chairmans Award is a powerhouse team in their community, and this is what makes it difficult to determine who is more deserving of the national award.
There are a lot of great teams up for the award and many of whom will win the award some time in the future, but for this year I say its the year of the Thunder Chickens!

Thanks.
I think that would be Israel Regional.
As far as my own prediction, first of i was amazed to not see 45 on the list. Don't know what happen to them. On the other hand, 365, 842, 217, 71 and 79 are great teams and have done a lot to embody and convey the message of FIRST. As easy it was last year to point out teams, its getting harder and harder due to more competition and more team involvement in their community. Its going to boil down to the interviews....

My money is going with either 5 tie winner at UTC (sorry, 4 tie at UTC and ! at BAE) Techno Ticks. The have a HUGELY STRONG presence in CT in FRC and FLL.
My other bet is Gompeii and the Herd (190). Although they are a new comer to the CA winners list, Ken Stafford and his crew are HUGE in MA. The only reason they have not won multiple years in a row is they have not submitted multipe years in a row. Their presence and program are far reaching.
For Davis: 1359 (The Scallywags) did a great job in winning the regional chairman's award

My picks:
503 - a force to be considered knowing they organize the large kick-off gathering at Novi High School and boast a pretty large team.
71 - 13 years in existence, still going quite strong, very good reputation, their website displays some pretty impressive community impact, very good contender.
27 - Pretty impressive resume.
These three mostly trigger gut feelings in me after looking at that long list, but knowing the nature of the award, it is extremely hard to predict who will get it.
Good Luck Everyone! Looks like this will be a fun competition.
-Joe
Something was wrong with 2158's name on the display, Lone Star did not take the most updated information on the team database
It should be AusTIN CANS (instead of trobots)
one of the re submitting honorable mentions from last year, or 236, or 190 (if they didn't get honorable mention last year).

As far as my own prediction, first of i was amazed to not see 45 on the list. Don't know what happen to them.
45 submitted our entry at the Boilermaker Regional, where the CA was given to CyberBlue, team 234. This team is VERY deserving, and could be the underdog who can pull of a CA win at the Championships.
btw... they also have 2 Regional wins (Boilermaker and Long Island) this year. This is turning out to be quite a year for our friends to the south.
Andy B.
Well, with Wildstang as an exception last year, lately the Championship Chairman's Award winners have been first-time Chairman's recipients. 103, 67 and 254 all share this characteristic unless the FIRST website is wrong. I'm going to predict a first-time Chairman's winner as the Championship winner, how about 1305.

I'll call 217: Mentoring many FLL teams, running a huge FLL Tournament, fulfilling Dean's homework every year, hosting the Ford Robotics Invitational (aka Sweet Repeat), co-hosting the Kettering Kickoff event, Mentoring other teams, cooperating on design with 229, the FIRST demonstration at the YES expo on the NFL's Ford Field, successfully leading students into engineering and design, and of course, building an unbelievable robot year after year.
That's all I could think of off the top of my head. I've never actually had the pleasure of reading their chairman's submission :)
However, that's not to undermine the creativity and success of every other deserving team out there: CyberBlue's international cooperation program, Miss Daisy's Team-in-a-box, 66 bringing younger students to competitions, and so many more.
And yes, my call might just be slightly biased. :D
_Alex
My vote goes to 842: Honorable Mention Chairman's last year, CMP Engineering Inspiration the year before... This season they've picked up a Chairman's award and EI already. They have a strong presence in their region, which includes Mexico. Don't count our friends from AZ out.

I say they move it out of the Midwest to a different region this year - 365.

My money is either on 217 or 503. 217 has a huge presence, but I didn't hear their announcement, so I don't know about the strength of their submission.
I have heard 503's. I have seen 503. This submission is really, really strong in terms of content. They have made huge contributions not only to the FIRST community, but also to their local community. They sounded like they had an excellent submission and presentation and I'm thinking that they'll be the ones I'll see on that stage at the end!
I promise you guys, team 71 will win the Championship Chairmans Award. They are the one of the best programs when it comes to starting new teams. They are one of the truly amazing teams in FIRST.
If a team win a regional Chairman's 5 years in a row, they must be doing something right.
It's time to reward 79 for their good works and bring them into the realm of legends.

To add to the master list:
922
1657
there is one other team (thats only 36 teams total)

We were actually at 2 years in a row winning in Davis in 2003 and Silicon Valley in 2004.
No love for 1727? :)
We are the only 2nd year team in the running, this should be interesting! Good luck to everyone!

I call team 75. Call me crazy, but I have my reasons.
You're CRAZY! Might as well be a car salesman (hmmm Bottilgieri Toyota...), and I think 75 will get a nod, but I feel that this being their first time with Chairmans along with the program still being ramped up, they won't win it. But I do expect an Honorable mention, along with 79 and 612.
i know that it's my own team, but the brazilian regional chairman's winner #1382, has made a wonderful work in our comunity... maybe we canmake a surprise this year and figure in the honorable mentions...only that would be great for us(i mean that even if we don't win, if we get an honorable mention we would be happy)...
this is my last year as a student member of the team but i'm sure that you can wait to hear many good things about the work of team #1382 in the next years C.A., the new people of our team are marvelous and have a great FIRST future...
edit: you can see a little in our website gallery: http://www.team1382.com/index.php?idioma=2&... search the visits to APAE and ASIN (they are entity that helps people with deficiences as syndrome of down - i don't know if it's wrote this way... sorry if it's wrong)...
for sure the competition will be fun... and just as ed said... a team that win the C.A. 5 years in a row, really deserve something big... i would bet in them... but i don't discard any team...
see you in atlanta!!

254 actually won in 2003 and 2004, but at different regionals.
1657 won Israel for the 2nd year in a row (along with their 2nd straight Regional Championship).
Chairman's Winner:
365 sneaks it out finally. It will be a close decision, but MOE does so much for FIRST in Delaware and through-out the Mid-Atlantic.
Honorable Mentions:
842 will come very close to winning it all. They were EI winners in 2005, and honorable mentions in 2006. They get almost no recognition outside of the Southwest, but they are a team very worthy the Chairman's Award. If they don't win in 2007, they'll win in 2008 or 2009.
612 has emerged as a super-power Chairman's force. They won a regional with two other 2006 RCA winners submitting at it (384 and 1002). With the new focus on the past 3 years (where virtually all of their Chairman's acheivements have occurred), Chantilly Robotics will be guaranteed a spot at the Championship event next year.
The final spot is tough, with 79, 217, 236, and 503 all deserving of recognition. I think 503 will, for the second year in a row, get the honorable mention. Frog Force has become a perennial Chairman's threat, and I think they will continue to be for years to come.
In the next few years expect to see 365, 842, 612, 75, and 1002 each join the FIRST Hall of Fame. The two 5-time winners (79 and 236) each have very strong historical records, and a strong contenders, but their resumes may not fit the new focus on recent (past 3 year's) accomplishments, especially enough to override teams like 842, 75, and 612.

254 actually won once in 2002, didn't win in 2003, then won again in 2004 (the year they won the Championship Chairman's).
Actually, they won EI in 2002, and CA in 2003 and 04, but at different regionals as stated above.

As in Many posts below-
365 SHOULD get the CA . They deserve it FAR more than any other team in the Northeastern Region due to their extensive promotion of FIRST in the region for years and their role as a leader amongst teams. Others have put on a good show in the past year or two but MOE has been showing us what the spirit of FIRST is all about for a long time. And if that is not the qualifications for receiving the CA then it certainly isnt worth awarding.
I would be happy to see the guys in green take the prize.

I promise you guys, team 71 will win the Championship Chairmans Award. They are the one of the best programs when it comes to starting new teams. They are one of the truly amazing teams in FIRST.
As much as that prediction sounds great (I have them in my FF Championship), I think 79 deserves CA the most. However, 365 and 217 will be right there with them in the end.
How cool would it be to have Paul Copioli win WFA, then the next year win the whole she-bang, and the third year win the CA? That would be truly amazing. I'm talking about 217, the ThunderChickens, if anyone was wondering.
Copioli was the 2005 WFA recipient, right?
Jon Jack
03-04-2007, 22:20
Copioli was the 2005 WFA recipient, right?
Yes, he was.
It seems like every year it gets tougher and tougher to guess who will win the big one. My top picks are:
79, 842, 217, 71 and 234 as a underdog

As for general comments. Be prepared. Know people who've been through the program, your sponsors and how much they donate, how much money goes into various aspects of your robot and th program, know your main points (I follow the 3 pattern of 3 main points with minor points below it), and know FIRST enough to be on your toes.

I might be wrong here, but I don't believe 180 won chairman's this year?
On topic, I've had the privilege of talking to the 365 and 384 chairman's teams, and both blew me away. MOE is certainly due for credit, but if 612 could beat 384 and 1002 (among others) for the VCU chairman's, they certainly will be a large presence in Atlanta. Also 79 and 236, though I do not know the extent of their programs, must be doing something right to have 5 regional chairman's wins apiece.
The caliber of teams like these competing for the Championship Chairman's, and the fact that they have not won yet, really puts the magnitude of this award in perspective. Good luck to all!

The format in Atlanta is the same as the Regionals, except that you will probably have judges who have done Chairman's interviews for several years and will have a wide breadth of experience in evaluating teams. Your regional may have had one very experienced Chairmans judge and others newer to the process.
Know your material, relax, and be honest in all you say.

Ok......well lets put aside the that I'm part of 612 aside for a while....
I've been a judge assistant over the course of last year and I've also worked with the judges to get them know the teams and FIRST as a whole.
DISCLAIMER!!!: I've been a robot inspector to every event 612 has attended.
Judges don't look for how many times a team has won a chairmans. Infact half of them don't even know about it. They look at which team embodies FIRST and its message the most.
And heres my personal opinion about this. On a regional level, I think submissions/essay means the most and interviews are just to make an impression. But at Naitonal level, Interviews count heavily as judges are looking for how well you can represent FIRST and your team to the outside world.
As for this year, there are previous winners, five time winners, first time winners, and some well noted Honorable Mentions on the list. Good Luck Teams!!
Imad
Yeah, Imad, thank you again for comforting us before our interview at VCU, that really helped us calm our nerves a ton.
But really, can one person who is just a bystander say, this team desrves it over all the other teams? Call me rash, but very few of us know everything about most of those teams up there. And to whoever does, I want in on it lol. I need some ideas of new stuff to do.
So to the teams that haven't been mentioned, don't worry, I remembered I was scared freshman-junior year when we weren't mentioned in these threads, im not saying these threads are bad in anyway, but just do your best and remember it isn't about the award, something Jeremy Roberts has been preaching to me since I was a small embryo.
Now after that little talk...
Sadly we wont be a part of this elite group this year, but we aren't really bummed out all because we got our friends 612 and 1311 to root for!
Watch out for 1311, they have taken an interesting approach to this thing. Very few people have heard of them before, but watch out.
And 612, those guys have SO MUCH STUFF that they have done. I was literally blown away (I fell over) when I heard some of the stuff they do.
However, when I think of teams that I myself look up to and try to get my team to somewhat feed off of, I think of 842 and 365. However, can you deny the BEAST? Those guys have spawned so many alumni that are doing so many great things and are a solidly built program.
So in short, there are simply too many good teams for my small brain to pick a clear cut winner. I am going to leave this to the one i beleive is a guru, lil lavery lol. Good luck to all.

Regionally? Perhaps. Championship level? HELL NO. These people are the same year to year (usually), they know. As they say when presenting the award, the Championship Chairmans is about SUSTAINED excellence, not just a one year win that manages to excite the judges. As Wayne said, to suggest that a one year win could win Championship chairmans defeats the whole point of the award.
Again, 365. 79, 236, and 612 as honorable mentions.

Joe, but you also have to look at the wording in the MANUAL this year. ;) 5.4.3Submission Information
The criteria for the 2007 Chairman's Award are essentially identical to those in 2006, with special emphasis on recent accomplishments in both the 2006/2007-year and the preceding two years. The judges focus on teams’ activities over a sustained period, as distinguished from just the six-week design-and-build time frame.
The FIRST Robotics Competition is not about machines; it is about the experience of people working together toward a shared goal. Documenting and preserving your team’s FIRST experience becomes an important component of the over-all FIRST experience.
As in the past, teams may only submit at one Regional competition for judging. Teams submitting for both the Chairman’s Award and the Woodie Flowers Award should note that both awards are judged at the same event. Students working on the Woodie Flowers Award submission and those team members working on the Chairman’s Award submission should coordinate to select the best event for the team.
5.4.3.1Submission Content
The Chairman’s Award is presented to the team judged to have created the best partnership effort among team participants and which best exemplified the true meaning of FIRST through measurable impact on its participants, school, and community at large. There is no single “best way” for a team to win the Chairman’s Award. Many factors come into play. The
primary factors the judges will evaluate are:
1) How strongly does the submission document the impact FIRST has on the learning experience of the students, school curriculum, engineers, and/or community during the 2006/2007 team year as well as in prior years?
2) Has the team explained/demonstrated why/how it should be a role model for other FIRST teams to emulate?
3) How well has the team communicated its excitement and impact within the entire school, community, and beyond (state/nation) through participation in FIRST during the 2006/2007 team year as well as in prior years?
4) Has the team documented an innovative way to spread the FIRST message?
5) How strong of a year-round team partnership effort is reflected during the 2006/2007- team year as well as in prior years? (You can define partnership in many ways, including: the partnership among the team’s students/corporate sponsor/engineers; school/university sponsor/engineers; students/adults; community/team)
6) As a whole, does the content of the documentation exemplify the true meaning of FIRST?
Your Chairman’s Award submission should include documentation for all the above factors.

Joe, but you also have to look at the wording in the MANUAL this year. ;)
So? Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first post, every team at Championship chairmans has done a great, amazing job THIS YEAR. No team can win Championship chairmans any year without that year being strong, but for a first year Chairmans winning team to Championship chairmans I just don't see in the cards. I don't think the judges that narrow sighted to focus on one year's achievements as the basis for an award that gets you a free pass to every championship and a setup in the Hall of Fame.
Oh, also notice how it said "and the preceeding two years"? Yeah, I rest my case.
Chris Fultz
07-04-2007, 11:27
Lots of good points and this is going to be an exciting award for whoever is there and the honorable mentions.
I think FIRST has changed the wording to state the 2006 - 2007 season and the proceeding two years so the focus can be on what the current team is doing, not what was done by students several years ago who have graduated and moved on.

I guess you'll have to tell that to 103 and 67 (and probably others as well), who won on their first year winning a regional. ;)
This year it doesn't seem like it's in the cards, but it's happened before, and likely will happen again. And just because they're a first time winner, doesn't mean all their notable accomplishments are only one year old.

I have seen lot of prediction in this thread. Tell you the truth, it really depends on those kids on the team who will walk into the judging area on Friday the 13th. It depends on how they will present their team to the judges.
All the assumptions in this thread are great and I believe all 37 Regional Chairman's Award winners are deserving for the Championship Chairman's Award, but in reality... we don't know who is going to win. It can be anyone. I propose that we list team's accomplishments (whichever team you would like to talk about), so we as a community can appreciate them, rather than just saying "Oh, team so and so is going to win it." Let's face it, you don't know who is going to win just yet... give it another week.

When I was at Philly and Wayne starting reciting all the stuff they did, my jaw just dropped and I felt as though I was in the presence of the next Hall of Fame winner.
I hate to burst everyones bubble but there is an all girls team from Canada going for the Chairmans Award. Team 771 has done a great job up here and beat out a lot of other well established teams. They are deserving and able. Don't count the girls out because if you do SWAT will bring you back to reality.

an update in case you have not seen the info from FIRST.
interviews will be Friday.
times are going to be set by FIRST, in order by team number, low to high.
there will be two groups of judges doing the interviews - you will just interview with one set of judges.
this will be tough for the judges - even with just half of the interviews they will spend almost 5 hours talking to teams!

Are you saying that the shorter we make our presentations... the more they'll like us??? :p
(Rhetorical Question...)
Nonetheless... good luck everyone!

As for honorable mentions, they did not do it, and from what I heard, it was due to not wanting to upset teams.

MOE,
Congrats guys, it's been a long time coming. You were my FIRST first experience (I came to your pit as an FLL kid in 2003), and an unforgettable one. What you do for all of FIRST is incredible. :)
Congrats MOE! You guys are amazing, I hope you have fun for the next year and come up with an amazing movie to show us in ATL '08! Have fun, make FIRST proud.
Congrats guys (and gals!)
Wish I could've been there, it's certainly been a long time coming. 2 Honorable mentions, and a very strong presence each year. Glad to see the vision came true.
See ya at the picnic! :D

Your confusion is well founded. There were no runner ups/honourable mentions this year. I'm not sure why though.
Thanks to everyone for your kind comments and support!
Congratulations to ALL the Regional Chairman's Award winners in 2007! I have had the chance to see/read/hear what many of you are all doing in your communities and beyond to spread the FIRST message. There are many signs that we may finally be reaching the "tipping point" in making a significant culture change. Each and every FIRST team is contibuting to this change. We can only imagine what the future holds.
Hope y'all had a great time in Atlanta.

Thank you, everyone, for the congratulations. Be sure the MOE is glad to hear the love and congratulations.
I’d like to extend a personal thank you to 1511, Rolling Thunder, and especially to your two ambassadors that sat with me in the stands for the Einstein matches and the awards. It really says a lot about a team who’s willing to not only shake the hands of their rivals, but to hold hands with their rivals while the Chairman’s Award gets closer and closer to being announced. Our hearts were beating in our hands and they were on their feet as fast as we were screaming congratulations louder than anyone else. Again, I thank you and wish you the best of luck in years to come.
I’d also like to give a shout out to every Miracle Worker to ever don MOE green. Everyone from MOE rookies to those who’ve been on the team 3 or 4 years, to the mentors, the parents, and the boosters, to the alumni both present and those present in spirit (bright green spirit) to anyone who is the least bit associated with MOE 365. YOU are the reason I got to carry around that heavy trophy and shake the hands of Dean and Woodie. No matter how much the actual presentation matters, the congratulations belongs no more to me and the other presenters than it does to every single person who’s ever called themselves Miracle Worker. So I say thank YOU to every Miracle Worker and congratulations. You made my job easy. You are amazing.
Oh and yes…

I am trying to find the honorable mentions too, but am not having any luck. I don't believe that honorable mentions were given out this year because the award list (http://www2.usfirst.org/2007comp/events/CMP/awards.html) doesn't have any honorable mention's on it.

I wish we could have met with every team member and congratulated you in person. Last night was a pretty crazy time for you and I hope that it just gets better for you today and tomorrow and the rest of your first year as a Chairman's Award team. All of us are proud of you and all of the regional winners, for the accomplishments you have achieved over the years. Without teams of your caliber, FIRST will not have the impact in years to come that this world needs. Your next year will be a big one, enjoy it. Please ask if you need any help and welcome to the neighborhood. (HOF that is.)

Congratulations to MOE! I didn't want to stop you in your travel down to the field to celebrate, but I think you might be interested in this story. On March 17, St. Patrick's Day, MC Steve Warren wore a green MOE shirt at the Detroit Regional, to go with his green hair.

Congratulations to the Miracle Workers- more fondly known as MOE.
It is time to consider just what an impact on the FIRST world they have had:
1. fluorescent green became a trademark
2. they got clapping lumber banned from competitions
3. they showed us that scout troops, multiple schools and entire regions can make a powerhouse of a team
4. whenever they competed the stands were always filled with crowds of support- living or plastic
5. they had the first 12 ft mascots (even bigger than Big Mike)
6. they made it a challenge to beat them and gave away their mangled parts to those who succeeded
7. they survived the Great Stick Napping and fought back gallantly
8. most of all- they MAKE FIRST FUN
All of our teams can take a lesson from the guys in green and try to make FIRST enjoyable. And it would be great if all of us could support their efforts by attending Duel on the Delaware this fall. See you there.

I would like to extend a huge congratulations to team 365. I cannot think of a more deserving team of this award, and it was a long time coming. Their efforts to spread FIRST are tremendous, and the effect that they have had on the entire FIRST community cannot be described. They're an enthusiastic, energetic, and great team that is always on the top of their game, on and off the field.
Congratulations, MOE!

Congrats MOE!
You truly are one of my role models and the first team that I looked up to (after Pitts in 05). One thing that stuck with me from my rookie competition was your willingness to help others and how considerate you guys really were. You taught me the real message of FIRST.
Thanks MOE and congrats again on this well deserved award!
P.S.: 226 has a stuffed animal shark we named after one of the members on that 05 team, and he’s very proud of you too!
I stopped by Moe's Pit and poster area by the walkway at Championship. These posters laid out a few remarkable facts about the progression of MOE's FIRST activities. I hope more people can see MOE's work over the many years and understand how to emulate a fantastic chairman's winner.
Just browse through the website to understand the impact MOE has created.

The three Judge's awards seem to be covering the honorable mention spots from last year.
I am overwhelmed by all the congrats and very nice words that we have been getting since our win (I'm still smiling BTW). From our special friends who ran down to the field to hug me so hard I couldn't breathe, to the judges at the wrap party standing and cheering us as we walked past, and finally to the teams in the airport who came up to us, it has been wonderful. Special thanks to Wildstang for the letters and instructions they left in the video camera case that we inherited from them. Thank you all and I hope to see you all at the Duel on the Delaware in October. (Special note - we will be filming there for our Chairman's video so that will be your chance to get in it!)
:D
P.S. We posted our Chairmain's essay as a white paper and will shortly have the full submission on our web site.

The three Judge's awards seem to be covering the honorable mention spots from last year.
Last year there were three judges awards and three honorable mentions given out. (Honorable mentions to 365, 503, 842 and Judges awards to 1398, 1941, and 1868) Also the chairman's award honorable mentions pre-qualified teams to go to Championship. Unless the criteria is changed, judges awards do not do this.

I asked before but no one seemed to notice, does anyone know where we were supposed to get feedback sheets, or if there even were any?
I know at the regional we enjoyed seeing how we did, and I'd like to know what the championship judges thought of our program. Thanks in advance.

Brad:
If I remember correctly, we did not receive a feedback sheet from the Chairman's judges from last year's Championship Event. Perhaps some of the other Regional winners could confirm this.
You guys have a great program and you are so energizing. We loved having you at Philly this season!

A huge congratulations goes out to the 365 team - rarely have I worked with a team so dedicated, so focused, and so completely devoted to the FIRST organization. The judges at this year's Championship event have truly picked a role model team within the FRC program.
Getting to know the MOE team is only partly about robots. These folks are a family, working together to provide their students and community with the best possible life experience at all times. Whether it be their JFLL, FLL, FVC, or FRC program, they embrace the FIRST message to the core and exemplify the characteristics of gracious professionalism at all times. They are involved in these programs and with these teams because they truly believe in FIRST. The Chairman's Award is an added bonus, but not the focus of their drive. They 'get it' to the fullest extent a FIRST team possibly can.
I am proud to say that I have gotten to know these fine folks over the past year, and have found myself very grateful for all of the hard work and assistance they have given me.

I have to say our students were absolutely beaming that they were with you when you won. They were in awe from the time they first really met your team in FLR, and we were all so excited to see you so deservedly win such an awesome award. They came back with huge smiles on their faces, and when they told us you all were holding hands, I think it really made me realize what a great team you guys are... that you arent above the third year teams, just all in it together!!
Congratulations to a wondeful team!! GO MOE!!
