View Full Version : Championship: Which type of robot are you?

In practice, what does your robot actualy do the majority of the time? Some teams designed theirs to be a tube scorer, but ended up playing defense most the time. Some designed it to be a hybrid ramp and tube scorer, but mostly scored tubes. Which does your team do in the majority of your matchs?

Tube Scorer - Robot scores tubes mostly.
Ramp bot - Robot lifts robots up mostly (I will assume you play defense while not lifting if your ramp only)
Defensive - Robot plays defense mostly.
Ramp climber - Robot climbs ramps mostly.
Hybrid: Tube scorer + Ramp bot - Robot that lifts other robots and score tubes mostly.
Hybrid: Tube scorer + Ramp climber - Robot that scores tubes and climbs on other robots (ramps or lifts).
Hybrid: Other - Other combinations of the 4 single categories as long as the robot does all of these in the majority of your matchs.

Please post your team number and your strengths and abilities.

Ramp climber.

We have a 12' platform at 14.5"
We can climb any bot that supports wide bots (36")

Hybrid:Tube Scorer + Ramp Climber
We can climb basically any ramp, and we can put 4 or 5 tubes on in a match. Plus we played some sick defense at NJ.

Team 47 Chief Delphi

Hybrid - Other
We can score tubes, be the ramp (holds 2 over 12"), climb other teams ramps easily, and play defense with the best of them.

No one can be/do everything at the same time, but if you are looking for a team that can truely do whatever is needed - keep us in mind.

Just to clarify: Your robot was doing all of these things regularly? It seems lots of teams CAN do everything, I am asking for what they actualy decided to use the most when down on the field. By saying you do all 4 of those things, then im going to assume that you have a very flexible bot that HAS been doing all 4 things regularly. (There is no doubt that you can do it, but did you?)

You missed defensive / ramp bot.

1824 is a defensive / ramp bot.

We have a powerful drivetrain an a very easy to climb and plenty of parking space for 2 @ 13-1/2" (a bit of extra height ;) )

See you all at the Championships. We're in Archimedes division

Team 379 is a defensive/scoring hybrid. We average 4 to 5 rings a match and can play some very tough defense. We are also able to climb pretty much any ramp out there. See ya in Galileo!

Sorry, I asumed but forgot to add that if you are a ramp bot only then you will play defense when not lifting. Its added into the description now :)

648 is a tube scoring ramp climber... however, I voted for tube scorer not realizing that that hybrid was just coined.

team 141
score tubes on all three levelse
climb ramps if needed
two platforms, one on each side of the robot, both have front(22 degree) and side (20 degree) ramps
and we can push people

:)

i dont think ive missed anything

Team 65:
We are about to score tubes as well as climb ramps at the Great Lakes regional the maximum number of ringers scored by our team alone was 7 as far as climbing ramps as long as the ramp is 30 degrees or smaller and at least 28 inchs wide we can climb you

I almost put hybrid tube scorer/ramp climber, but I think tube scorer is more appropriate. We score well enough that we could likely score 1-2 tubes (or place/remove a spoiler) during the time it would take to climb a ramp. The majority of time the rack configuration is such that scoring an extra tube would give 32 or more points (out weighing the ramp bonus).

If it makes sense, we'll climb (we do it well) but we'd rather score.

As a secondary ability, we are very good at removing spoilers (and then finding a better place for them).

LV Regional - qualifying 9-0-0
LV Regional - overall 15-1-0
LV Regional Winning Alliance (with 254 and 1983; Cheesey Poofs and Skunk Works)

Yes, I understand your poll question.
Unfortunately what each team ACTUALLY did down on the field depended also on what their alliance partnerts could or couldn't do.
So, we ended up scoring in all of the matches when not getting beaten on by 2 or 3 at the same time, climbing up on other teams ramps when we needed to, we were the ramp when we had partners that weren't able to, and we played defense when we needed to.
What we actually did down on the field was dependent on the alliance strategy - which changed often to match the best attributes of each alliance we played with and against.

Hope this helps
Mike

Team 703's bot is a hybrid Defense/Ramp Climber/Ramp Bot and we're good at all three. Anyone who went to Detroit or West Michigan knows this too. :yikes:

Team 379 is an offensive/defensive hybrid, we can score consistently and play some very tough defense. We can also climb ramps with the best of them. This is what helped us win the buckeye regional, of course, 291 and 48 were a big help as well. Thanks guys!

Ramp climber - Robot climbs ramps mostly.

I wasn't going to comment on this but someone voted it in the poll.

Did anyone design their robot only to climb ramps?
Do you just sit in the home zone all match and wait for the ramps to deploy so you can climb them?

I assume they would at least play defense for most of the match then climb the ramps at the end. Ramp climbing is a secondary ability that becomes a hybrid with the 3 primary abilities. Another secondary ability is the ability to remove spoilers (and also score on the top row for that matter).

Team: 234
hybrid: tube scorer/ramp climber

Our robot scores tubes most of the time and we can get up to 7, if we aren't under heavy defense. We also can climb ramps/lifts, and sometimes it comes down to that, especially in finals matches, like at Boilermaker.:D

1124 is a hybrid robot. We're mainly a scorer + ramp climber, but we also do have strong defensive capabilities and our own double ramp. Generally we stick to the scoring and ramp climbing, though.

I put Hybrid: other because there was no option for all four, depending on the round. We have done at least two in a round, and I think three once or twice. Scoring, defense, ramps, and we'll climb if your ramps/lifts are better than ours or strategy calls for it.

Scorer and ramp climber

very simple scorer putting up 4 ringers. Built extra narrow with high torque to climb most anything

ramp / defensive bot

accomplishments this year
-finalists in Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh Regional)
-champions in Cleveland (Buckeye Regional)
-semi finalists in Toronto (Greater Toronto Regional)
(would have been in the finals, but we blew a tred)

250 mostly plays defense but can score on the rack as well. We can also climb ramps well.

Team 330 is an awsome hybrid. I was very impressed by the way they integrated a fast scoring mechanism with a robust ramp system when we played with them in San Diego.

Our robot (1516) is a totally defensive robot and can clime any ramp even if it has a steep angle, our robot has great pushing power and that is what allows it to push around any robot.
