View Full Version : So, Anyone Else's Flight Canceled

Eh?

Our flights getting to Atlanta were canceled because all traffic has been shut down at the Chicago Airport. We're working on rescheduling for the morning or switching airlines, but eh, its not looking good for us right now.

Anyone in NE have a jet to loan us? (Dean? UTC? Pratt?)

Ouch. . . . Ya it is still a blizzard here in Southwestern Wisconsin. . . . Bunch of snow and slush on the ground with more still coming down. Good luck

Yeah, six of us (four students, two parents) are stuck in WI; 3 of us are coming down tonight (if the flight's not cancelled) and the rest are flying down tomorrow.

Also, best of luck getting out of here to NEW Apple Corps - their entire team is stranded in Milwaukee right now...

I just had the flight I was going to book with FF miles for my study abroad trip this summer disappear from the FF available flights. :-/

Oh, we are talking about flights to Atlanta here...:yikes:

If you show up late on Thursday and need help with your bots, ask for "Michael Baker" or "Baker" from 675. I'm a scout, though, so I might be hard to locate.

I'll see about having bright pink duct tape on my shoulders (since it'd be an identifiable factor).

I am stuck in St. Louis until the morning, 269 made it down finally at 8PM Eastern, ran to the dome and uncrated the bot in about 4 minutes at 8:55PM.

All of our engineers are making it down fine, as well as ONE team member (fortunately, the base driver). The rest of us won't be there until at least 4PM on Thursday however.

Our hotel-mates, 107, had their flight cancelled today and was taxi'd over to Detroit from Grand Rapids. They showed up around 9:00.

I'm flying into ATL from BOS tomorrow evening. We're supposed to get a good amount of rain, sleet and snow, so here's hoping I can make my flight!

Best wishes to everyone caught in the weather and stay safe!

We took a 12 hour bus ride from Ann Arbor Michigan today.

It rained 95% of the time there... sheesh. At least the temperatures are nicer down here.

Good luck to everyone in getting here!

When are you flying out? My flight leaves at 6:07pm, and I'm worried about the weather. Traveling to the airport in slush during rush hour ought to be an adventure in itself, and I want to make sure I have all my bases covered unless I need to switch flights or something.

I should pack. :D

Flight's at 7:30 on Delta, I'm hoping to get to the airport at 5:30. We'll see how it goes

Sorry to hear about folks not being able to get to Atlanta today. I hope you make it soon. I am sending this from the Autodesk wireless laptops in the pits, so if you need access once you get here check it out.
Good luck with your transportation.

Places I am right now:

Cleveland, Ohio

My flight leaving Boston at 6:07 got delayed an hour, but supposedly my connecting flight was delayed an hour too. It turns out they changed their mind and un-delayed my connection while I was in the air. I'm arriving at ATL 9:23am tomorrow, so I'll still be there for most of tomorrow!

And all I got was a $49 Ramada room.

After watching the weather forecast, I don't think our weather and snow travel woes are over yet. According to the latest forecast I saw today, on Sunday/Monday, a huge Nor'easter with up to Category 3 hurricane-force winds is expected to hit the Northeast, bringing extreme rain, wind, ice, and you guessed it, even more snow.

Yeah I have the weather on in my hotel room now... and it looks like it's gonna be pretty messy down here as well. I hope people going back up to the North brought some extra clothes

It wasn't a flight delay, but we did have bus problems. We left at 6PM on Wednesday. At 1 AM Thursday, our bus broke down. It wasn't until 4 AM that they decided to get us another bus. We made it there at 10 on Thursday. Then we found out that team 177 was caught up at an airport. I was definitly glad that some teams helped out 177 with driving their robot for the day. Good Job you guys.

Just heard from a team member in Atlanta, the flight is cancelled  and the earliest they might get out is Tuesday...:ahh:

They tried to get a bus- all are already taken. I suggested Amtrak. A charter plane (for 50!) is just not in the budget.

103's flight was cancelled late last night/early this morning. The earliest we can get a flight together is the 6.30am to Philly on Tuesday morning... so, we're all preparing for the extra days. Team 25 was sitting on their plane not too long ago after a delay, same with our mentors. Good luck to all those who are still traveling and have delays.

I don't know how, but our person who deals with travel somehow got us a flight from Georgia to Boston at 7a.m. instead of 6p.m. because of the expected weather. No extra cost, the change happened at 9:30 at night, and we avoided cancellations due to weather.

Our flight was half an hour delayed, but arrived in Philly on time... turbulance was crazy.

Our mentor, Mr. Kressly, however, did not fair quite as well as we did in terms of flights. He booked his flight through FIRST because he's a senior mentor, and took US Air instead of Delta with us. His flight was cancelled.

... or maybe he just wanted one day of his life without a bunch of overzealous, caffeine-laden teens who wanted to change the world asking him questions :)

Currently, I'm scheduled to fly out tomorrow (Monday) morning. No Ira, you're not allowed to teach my classes.

Our flight was supposed to leave Atlanta at around 7pm. We left at about 9:30. The plane had a leak in the roof that was near some electronics, so we had to change planes and all the baggage had to be moved and we waited a long time. The pilot and attendants were very nice, though, and we still had a good time.

Perhaps it's a US Air thingie....

I'm stuck here in Atlanta, too. I was supposed to leave Sunday AM, but was cancelled and am now scheduled to leave Monday around noon. I'm busy coming up with things to do all day and evening Monday, just in case I don't get out on Monday. If I plan really good stuff to do, I may leave Atlanta according to schedule. (You know that thing about the best laid plans...) I'm trying to come up with a win-win situation.

Where are those 103 people now? At home, in the air, or in Atlanta?

From what I have heard, they, like 1676, probably will have to stay in Atlanta until at least Tuesday.

We were lucky enough to only have about an hour delay for our flight back, and we had no problems getting there.

I was stuck on the runway for around 45 minutes to an hour this morning (7:20-ish) due to Chicago Traffic, I am kinda glad I listened to my mom and took that early flight home. Note to all college FIRSTers... listen to your mother, she knows more than you may think about traveling without a team.

Some of the NYC teams’ flights are still not back!

Their flights are delayed or cancelled.
Is anyone's team still stuck in Atlanta's airport?

We got out of Atlanta at 12:46pm after a 15 minute delay on our way to Newark NJ. But here is the interesting part, some teams were on a flight scheduled 15 minutes or so after we left (around 1) and they didn't leave until 4:30, so it was Roulette with Air Traffic Control I guess. The flight was fairly smooth and turbulence was mild, but 1403 is happy to report everyone is home safe, on time, with all of our luggage (just a little wet)!

Hope everyone gets home in one piece (robots included)!

Splitting up the team did the trick, smaller groups are more easily accomodated. Some are in the air already, while others are detouring to nearby airports (it's raining crazy here right now), I think that last plane is scheduled to arrive 3 am, but unsure if there is a delay on that or not.

Beats the 18 hour bus ride...

In other news, Team 292 is in the same boat as 1501 was on the way down. They were headed back this morning when the transmition on their bus went out about 6 hours from home. The company sent another bus while they spent the day hanging out at the mall. They're slated to get home around 3 am. What a weekend to travel.

So I reported yesterday that 1403 got home on time from Newark, turns out we didn't have to go to school today anyway because the endless rains have flooded so many of the local roads.

Woot! No School!

*Edit*: Turns out that offically, yesterday we got over 4.56" of rain (that would be over 4.5' feet of snow if it was snow), but from the charts I've been reading, the heaviest rain fall didn't start until about 1am today.

Well, those 103 people are still in Atlanta.. lots of quality time with each other. We spent the day in the hotel yest and right now are at the mall. The flight is scheduled to leave tomorrow at 6.30ish am, if we're really lucky it wont be delayed. So, who else is still here?

edit*team 103 is now home, hooray!*
