two part question.

1. What was your teams greatest play this season? (from the first match to the final match)

2. What was the FIRST play of the year?

I can't answer 1, really, but I think it's fair to say the single greatest play, if only because of its consequences, took place in the very last match.
A team on the red alliance (I think 190) pushed a tube onto 71's ramp. This play ultimately prevented the blue alliance from ramping a second robot (179) and allowed red's 5 point victory. It was a brilliant play using strategy to counter an alliance with stronger robots.

It was actually 987 that did that as 190 waited with the ramp ready to go. As both teams seemed very ramp cautious with ramps deployed well in advance of the 15 second end, 987 put the tube they had on the ramp without penalty. I don't know if they had planned that beforehand, or came up with it on the spot, but it looked really cool on the webcast. Wish I could have been there to see it in person.

If last year's "A-Bomb" was loading balls from your robot into an alliance's robot, then this year's A-Bomb is certaily what 987 did in the waning seconds of this year's championship. They placed the blue ringer in their claw on top of Team 71's deployed ramp, then dashed back to their own home zone to join Team 177 on top of Team 190's platforms. The play was brilliantly executed and extremely effective.

In the last fifteen seconds of the match, everyone in the audience knew that the only thing that mattered was if Swamp Thing could get on top of Beatty. The blue tube bounced them down the ramp once, and then it seemed as though they had gotten it out of the way and were going to make it up, but they apparently high-centered and got stuck for the last ten seconds. It was amazingly intense, and with the final score differing by only 5 points between the two alliances, it was what made all the difference.

Congratulations to all six teams duking it out in the finals on Einstein, but that is, in my opinion, the most ingenious play all year.

the best play was when swamp thing "hit the Nos!" and made it up the ramp at some point during elims. it was amazing!

Best play off the year is in Newton match 40, executed by 111 on their partners 1574. You must see it.

If you're talking about the match where both of 71's partners made it up the ramp in the last five seconds, I agree. That was quite amazing.

we lost this match in the finals because of our transmission plates, along with one of our alliance partners. And of course the other teams great skill, mainly.

But the play is when 75, 293 we're trying to complete a full row on the top rack, our human player stopped it by scoring on a spider leg on the top rack.

I have to agree, this was pretty darn cool. For those of you who weren't there, 1574 got a ringer stuck on their flag. 111 proceeded to remove it and score with it.

my team's best play of the year was at BMR, when 85 was positioning themselves to make a row of 4, and we backed into them, and placed our tube in their spot. Ultimately that play won us the match.

I didn't get to see the championship though, I'll have to look at the archives.

494,1503,1023 At the GLR against 1114,67,57. The rack was filled with tubes and 494 played awesome D against 1114. At the end of the match our allaince had two spoilers on the rack favoring us!!

I was watching the championship and I saw a really good play, unfortunately I have no idea what match it was in, it was in eliminations though.
Anyway, This one team had deployed their ramp and had one robot up on it but they were slightly on top of a ringer. In the last ten seconds, their alliance partener, who I'm pretty sure was 1503, pulled the ringer out from under the ramp, validating the thirty point lift. Amazing teamwork.

It is a tie for us.

At Toronto, we scored 92 points by ourselves (minus 1 ring) by placing 4 and lifting for 60.

At Atlanta we put up 5 tubes in a match (our high) but we still lost by 4 points.

At Wisconsin, we got a 45 point bonus in edition to 3 rings placed in the finals.

The winner is probably Toronto for me.

Hands down, match of the year was the final match at the Wisconsin regional. Great jobs to Fondy, Charger, and King Tech!

Yeah I have to agree. That was an awesome play. I thought that they were going to go flying off the back due to the speed that they were climbing at!

I loved team 233 The Pink Team from Archimedes play! They got flipped upside down in autonomous mode and then, because of the 180 degree movement of their arm, they flipped themselves back up by pushing off the ground with their arm, and contunued to score for the rest of the game!!! It was incredible!

What match was it?

As important as 987's placement of a ringer on 71's ramp was, I think it deserves just that title, "The Most Important Play of the Year," for helping the 190, 987, 177 alliance grab the gold. If we make a sports analogy here, how often is the championship-winning play considered the play of the year? The game-winning goal, the buzzer-beating shot, or the last second field goal is always memorable for taking the big prize, but rarely for being the most amazing play of the year.

Personally, I believe the play of the year is reserved for something spectacularly mind-blowing, which is why I would give that title to this (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/27756). It was so spectacular that FIRST decided that it should only occur once all season. Nice one Wildstang.

Same thing happend to us (935) at the finals in KC. Our partner, 1775 did that same as wild stand and immediately scored the ringer.

Rumor has it that if Wildstang gets a tube stuck on itself it can take it off, but I'm not sure if there's video of that. It was pretty cool to see it take the tube off of 1574 though, they went nuts in front of us! One of their kids said that they didn't know that Wildstang was good enough to do that :)

My favorite play for us would be at St. Louis during one of the qualification matches. We were going for a row around the top, and an opposing alliance was trying to place their ringer to stop it from connecting. We slipped ours in literally right under theirs to score it before they did.

Play of the year is EASILY that Einstein match where 233 and 179 came racing across the field to get up on the ramp. 233 was hovering around the edge with ~5 seconds left, I thought "no way are they going to make it up in time, they're taking it easy and going slow." Then out of nowhere, 179 comes literally screaming across the field and shoots themselves up to the ramp just in time (as did 233 at almost the exact same time). It was incredible.

My Favorite play this year was in Finals Match #2 at Pacific Northwest when 1087 was trying to get on our platform and our little ramps we had in front had taken a beating and didn't deploy. in trying to get over they tipped them selfs over backwards and then proceeded to right them selfs with their arm and drive forward before they were completely back on their base, they landed perfectly on our platform and we lifted them, winning the match and the elimination rounds :D

I don't know the match number but the blue alliance had a ring on one of the spider legs facing them. Then, a blue alliance human player threw a ring and it landed on top of the ring that was already there. Next, the red alliance came and put a spoiler on the spider leg that already had two rings on it.
Classy.

In one of our eliminations matches (I think it was the Semi_Finals) there was a tube on our ramp, likely placed there by the opposing alliance. When 1592 drove over to our ramp and saw the tube, they simply picked it up off the ground and climbed for the 30 points.

Personally, I think that the ending of the Boston regional was better than the final 5s of that Championship match (ramping). I am biased, but that's still my opinion.

I believe when our human player (Chris Marra) got the ringer that put our alliance on top of the Uberbots in Newton Final 2 to force the third gets my choice. He misses that ringer and its a different story.

Pete, the tube I threw actually put our point total higher than the Uberbot alliance during the second finals match, ensuring that we would not have to go to a third.
