Barry Bozack was honored at a Banquet today because he was named to the USA 1st Academic Team. The award looks at GPA, as well as community involvement and work experience. He is one of 20 students out of 1600 to be given this honor.

He had to give a speech and of course it was all about FIRST!!! Way to go Barry

Congrats, Barry!

(And I have to agree--between being sick, getting stuck in Columbia for two extra days, and running all over the country, how the heck does he do it? He must have a twin or something.)

I appreciate all of the congrats. Everyone be sure to buy a USA Today tomorrow (Monday, April 16).

All of the USA Today Academic Team members will have their pictures and small write ups about them in it. Mine will focus on FIRST and my involvement with FRC and FLL. I want any publicity I get from this to be reflected back on FIRST because I feel that I could not have done it without the experiences I've had, all of the mentors I've had taught me, and my opportunity to mentor students as well. This opportunity simply would not have been possible without FIRST, and I am grateful.

By the way. The speech Wendy mentioned was at the capitol in Tallahassee in front of the Florida Board of Education. There's my contribution for Dean's homework. I saw Chancelor Armstong yesterday, and he was impressed to hear of teams 1902, 233, and 179 to be on Einstein.

I just got home from Tampa. The 1st Academic Team was given a formal banquet this morning, there should be video of the event posted online later. What an honor to be in the same category as these other exceptional students, I'm happy to be able to bring FIRST into the spotlight. For those that were unable to pick up a copy of the paper today, here is where it is online at USAToday.com.

This summer I will try to post the specific scholarship application as well as my essays that helped get me nominated for this position so future students can also try to achieve this goal. There is nothing I would love to see more than a continuation FIRSTers in national news.

Here's a Barry story.
After having a great time at the Florida Regional and being hosted by 1902 & the Wendymom household - I had to catch an early morning flight. It was the day of the time change (spring forward) and my Austin time is different anyway so it was a weird time change for me. Anyway, Barry was concerned about my ride to the airport and the time change and made sure that he took me, all of which I did not know. He showed up at the door in plenty of time for the flight. That is just the kind of person that Barry is. (I won't mention the part about being driven to the airport by a guy with orange hair and large green polka dots which actually felt kind of normal after that fun Florida Regional.)

Wow, Barry.
You are amazing.
Will you marry me? lol just kidding.
But seriously. Thank you. For helping give FIRST that kind of recognition.
And I am so mad that I couldn't have gotten a USA Today paper but I'm going to print out the web version.
And just like everyone else, I am going to say that I missed you at Chamionships.
But I was wondering, did you ever find your umbrella hat?
I'm glad your feeling better!
Hope you can make it down for Mayhem!

I was cleaning out some mail and came across this private message from Jan. 2005.
Barry has always been a class act.

Hello there. Today I had been doing my daily Chief Delphi post readings, and I came across a thread from a girl on a team that is having some dedication and other problems with her team. Her post sounded very familiar to me because she seems to be having some of the same problems I had when I started messaging you. I posted some advice that you once given me about how to get more teacher support, but I think she might need more help than that. This might be something NEMO is able to help with, you may want to contribute some more advice. I offered to her to e-mail me if she would like some more advice with how I handled some of the same situations. you can see her post here

I figure it is now partially my duty to help other teams after so many have helped me. Thanks again for everything
