I'm really suprised the season went by so quickly. I had way too much fun but now i'm really missing it. I dont know why but FIRST has really got me, I'm totally into robotics and FIRST. The Championship was definetely fun, other than the walking from the pits allllll the way to Archimedes (long walk!!!) I just loved the spirit of the teams, and everyone yelling. Never thought it would be this much fun. I miss the regionals as well especially since we actually had a lot more people to yell out "Lets go 1403!!!". Well, now its back to school work, until Monty Madness and then maybe I'll try to do something with the team over summer. Waiting to see any1 that I saw again next summer.:) :D

I know the feeling. It's hard to just stop doing something you've dedicated the past couple months to. Now that the robotics season is ended, I keep wondering, "I actually have time now...what do I do?" It's rather confusing, really.

What I'm going to miss the most are the people. I've learned so much from all kinds of wonderful people. The robotics team is like my family - in fact, I'm pretty sure I've been around them more these past few months than I've been around my own family.

You're right, the season did go by quickly. I'm happy, because it's been a successful one as well as fun. But I'm also upset about it at the same time - we're losing a few members of our team, and it's not going to be the same without them and not having them there to look up to. It's kind of scary to think that next season the rookies will be looking to people like me for answers...

But yeah. Reflecting back on this season, it couldn't have gone better. And though next season is going to be completely different, I say bring it.

What do you mean the season's over?! :ahh:

Our 2007 FRC season probably won't be over until late October/early November, which is well into the FVC build season. We have six different FRC off-season competitions planned: Beantown Blitz, BattleCry @ WPI, IRI, Bash at the Beach, River Rage, and possibly Rah Cha Cha Ruckus.

Never mind the imperial British Empire, the sun never sets on our FIRST season! :D

For some teams the season is over but for The X-cats its maybe what i call a new beginning....thats because we have to move out of our site after like i dont know maybe 10 years at the same place as people have been saying. All i know is that most of the team will help finish up packing and then a new Site....which we dont know where thats going to be.*sigh*

Yeah! How I figure it, there are two seasons to FIRST, The Season, and The Off-Season! Both are great! Everybody come to the IRI, the #1 Off-season event (at least in my book)!

My team has about 3 super awesome off-season projects we are already planning... it's going to be one of the best off-seasons ever

Thanks to all in FIRST; it was a good run.

Sravan, your season isn't over, in fact I'll make it my personal mission as a second semester senior to see to it that you won't run out of work. First on your list, get a camera system working, once you uncrate the robot. You can fill in some time with Monty Madness, then maybe if your good we'll consider PARC and IRI.

Once you can understand programming, you can move on to other stuff, like Design.....

Remember Everyone, if you end your season now, it'll be even shorter next year.

And get shorter, and shorter, and shorter, and shorter.

Over this summer, I plan on getting with a senior and learning some things about the electrical, not to mention trying to program one of our older robots. A few guys and I are planning on making some stuff for the heck of it. We were talking about it on the way home and our mentors just stared at us and sighed. (Probably thinking, "Give it a break", I say, "NEVER!!!")

You can always work on some robotics projects in the offseason. The summer is a good time to do R&D, hone CAD skills, or practice various fabrication techniques.

After the finals in Atlanta I was in the pits and overheard someone on the team across from us say "Next season starts when we get home" and I thought to myself "They're behind, I already started next season 4 weeks ago."

the season is never over. there is always something to do FIRST related. you can channel all of the energy that went it building your robot into benifiting your community and teaching programas to kids and talk about what needs to be done from the next year. There is always something to do.

This season passed.
The good memories keep piling up =]

Since when did this happen?? Lol. I never knew that robotics season ended... because if it did, someone never informed me :p I'm 102% robotics all the time

But seriously, I am sad it's over... like the regionals and all that fun. But off seasons are ALWAYS amazing. It's that time to make things bigger and better and go have fun with friends =] Robotics NEVER ends... its a MOE (aka 365 haha) day job =] Well, at least for me haha :D

It's a couple of blocks away, Casey.
Quite nice too (and I've only seen the outside of it. I can't wait to see the inside).

If you're already bored and don't want the FIRST season to end, check out the listing of off-season events, workshops and summer camps on the NEMO website at www.firstnemo.org/calendar.htm - you can always volunteer at an event which is a great way to meet new people and learn about the flip side of FIRST!

The 2006-2007 Season is over
The 2007-2008 Season has started

and now I am a mentor. :)

Off season events... hmm...
Because we're run off the boyscouts we have tons boyscout related things to do off season (and on season). We often go to boyscout and cubscout meets to get the word of First out and show off our robots. And thanks to the boyscouts, we are able to take huge camping trips to places like the San Juan Islands in Washington.

One of our sponsors (HP) gives out about 6k to each first team in Oregon. In return, most of the Oregon first teams go and have a mini-competition each year for them. Aside from that, we make a float for our town's parade and we show off our robot in tons of other events.

It's sad that we miss so many other mini-competitions such as Rah Cha Cha Ruckus but maybe I could get my team to go to one of those instead of (or in addition to) going on a big trip... What are some oppinions on which mini-competition would be the funnest? And which ones would be the easiest for an Oregon team to get to?

We need to decompress for a short while (till the robot gets back), then we'll be back at work fixing and maybe redesigning a few components before off-season events. Hopefully we'll see a lot of our friends soon!

With all due respect, now you are an alumnus. It takes more than graduation to become a mentor.
