Teams:

Below is the listing of 2007 IRI Invited Teams.
The Planning Committee had a challenging time creating this list -
there were 101 applications. We were able to expand the field to 72 teams.

Thank you to all who are interested and applied.

Our selection process was based on data (staying true to the engineering realm).

Indiana Teams that registered on day 1 or 2 received an automatic bid.
We then ranked teams based on Loyalty to the IRI, 2007 Competition Performance (Including match play and Regional Chairmans Awards), and what the teams have done to support the IRI, past or present.

We believe this was a fair and equitable way to select.

All invited teams should have received an email earlier this evening. This email has instructions for continuing the registration process.

All wait listed teams (9) should also have received an email earlier this evening.

All teams not in the above groups should also have received an email earlier this evening.

Stay tuned for more information.

If the finals on Einstein are the main event of our WrestleMania, this is definitely shaping up to be the Royal Rumble. (Or maybe Survivor Series, if you want to reserve the Rumble's symbolism as the start of the road toward WrestleMania for a pre-ship like Winter War Zone.)

Congrats to those who earned invites!

7 of the 12 division champions are going as well as 5/12 division finalists.

And 2/3 Champs, 2/3 Finalist from Einstein. 5 teams (if I counted right) won 2 regionals.
This will be a competition to remember.

This will be a competition to remember.

Not only that, but 5 more teams one a regional and were finalists at another. three of the four divisional #1 seeds are here as well as three of the first picks (five if you count 1114 and 330). There are about 50 teams that are super duper bonafide real deal teams, and it will be interesting because at least 18 are sitting out. I would not be suprised if at least one of the 14 world champions has to sit out the finals. The level of competition is uinbelivable, and I think that fourth spot will be very strategic.

I agree. I wish they made it to Atlanta this year. They made excellent alliance partners to us in 2006.

I read through the first 40 or so teams with other mentors from our team hovering over my shoulder and our collective thought (after we cheered because we got in) was "oh crap!" (or something like that). The IRI Planning Committee has put together a real who's who of FIRST teams. We've all got our work cut out for us!

Can't wait for late July!

were gonna have a fun time defending our title of 06 iri champs especially after not qualifying for champs.
there are so many team on that list i can't wait to play with and would prefer not to play against(233,254, many many others)
plus i feel sorry for scouts having to cover 72 teams and pick 3 robots instead of 2

Last year we went 6 teams into the waiting list I think, and that was with a 60 team limit.

I wouldn't want to guess for this year, but the requirements are for teams to make decisions quickly and complete their registrations so that others will have time to decide if given the option.

Interesting selection process. A lot of excellent teams, but not much chance if you are a rookie team and didn't know about IRI in the past. Too bad, some of us could have learned a lot from seasoned pros!

Consider going there to observe and enjoy, maybe even volunteer! You can learn a lot from watching the teams work, scout, strategize and socialize. It's a really fun event, $1/head for BBQ, and the talent show is included.

Indy is only about a 4-hour drive from St. Louis, I drove from Collinsville, IL last year and will do it again this year.

Watch that timezone thing, it used to be a little weird in Indiana, but now they've got it working...

I second that!

We all know volunteers are the lifeblood of FIRST. And this is one of the best events to attend - and maybe get your feet wet as a volunteer if you haven't tried it before. I guarantee you will be glad you did.

Just so everyone knows there was a lot of agony and thought put into these selections. I was not part of the group to choose teams but watched the process that they used. I can honestly say they tried to make the fairest and best selection criteria. They wanted for every team to be given an opportunity and gave every team that applied a chance to make it in. Due to size of our venue and it is a good venue we just can’t accept everyone. I hope that if your team was not chosen and if you are a rookie you would still take the time to attend or participate in some way or another. These guys that choose these teams are some of biggest bleeding hearts I know and for them to get this number to where it is was hard on them. Thanks for the time.

Next time come to our place, we could easily run two fields and have enough space for as many pit stalls as you would want.

Wow, the field of competitors must have been incredibly tough this year. A team who has gone to IRI, was the #8 seed (quarterfinalist) at Great Lakes and the #8 seeded finalist at West Michigan only made 6th on the wait list!

I was not suprised in the least that 648 wasn't invited... that's what you get when there isn't effort placed in the registration essay.

Oh well! I'll still be there! I'm asking for the time off tomorrow! I'm so excited that 107 got in... I'll be there in my maroon platoon shirt.

Oh yeah, I emailed to volunteer yesterday, go me!

Can't wait to see the exillerating competition!

Actually, LNHS is big enough for two fields and 150 teams.
We simply do not want the IRI to grow to that level.

At the size we are (66 - 72 teams), teams get 8 good matches, almost 1/2 of the field will be in the eliminations, the competition is tough, the organization of the event is manageable for people who do this as volunteers, the parent crews can cook and feed all of the teams, and we keep the "fun" feel for everybody.

There is a challenge to not letting this get too big and so cumbersome that it is no longer fun for everyone involved. We think the current team level (72) is just about right. :)

Oh man.. last year, alot of people wanted to see the 25 + 1114 alliance. At IRI, it happened. And when they got knocked out: best match of the year. It would be amazing if the "dream" alliance were to come together again. Of course, I'd hate for them to get knocked out. Two years on the dream team alliance, not bad for 1114.

Bring in another group to plan, manage, run the second field. We will give you a run for your money ;). Have a different group every year, and watch out for different people from different region trying to come in and top the organizers of IRI!

Ha! I am just kidding of course :D. I don't know how you guys do it. The rest of us are watching jealously as the status of IRI rise higher and higher every year.

Good luck this year, don't let the California Teams beat you up too much!

Last year, about 4 or 5 teams were taken from the waiting list. Several teams will register in order to hold a position, but will have trouble finding the necessary funding. Obviouly, this will not be known until the payment deadline hits.

Two fields would be amazing. But I understand the challenge. It was disappointing not having two fields at Toronto this year. I was looking forward to the system.

I like the idea of having two conferences and having the winners of each facing off in the finals, kind of like a mini-nationals.

Either way, IRI is still, in my opinion, THE single hardest field to compete in, year after year. But the nice thing about it is, there isn't much pressure, and it is a great time. The fact that it doesn't cost 5k is nice too...

Do we have updated information on how many waitlisted teams have been invited?

No waitlisted teams have been invited. All teams who were invited to register have registered. Once June 1 comes around, there may be spots open from registered teams who have not paid their entry fee.

Yes, we were notified that Frog Force cannot make it, and team 701 (1st on the wait list) cannot attend. So, 931 is officially invited. The wait list now looks like this:

832
1528
1739
1504
1592
1243
34
101

(then, 19 more)

Andy, et. al. Our main contact is out of town through next week (school ended last week and last day for teachers was yesterday - he's on the Ocoee rapids) :) . If we get in, can you shoot me an email or call. I can email you my contact info.

Does this mean all the spots are filled?

The deadline for teams to pay their entry fee is today. On Monday, there may be more open spots. We just knew about this one open spot recently, since team 503 told us that they were pulling out of the event.

I loosely predict that more teams from the waiting list will get an invite. We will know more and post a full update on Monday.

Andy Baker
05-06-2007, 13:27
Update:

Team 503 decided not to attend.
Teams 190 and 1816 did not get their registration fees sent.

Therefore, we started inviting teams from the waitlist.

Team 701 (1st on the list) decided not to attend.
Team 931 was invited, and accepted.
Team 832 is invited. (likely to accept)
Team 1528 is invited. (likely to accept)

Our waitlist is now this:

1739
1504
1592
1243
34

(and about 20 more)

Currently, our field is full, with 69 teams paid, 1 team recently accepting an invite and 2 teams likely to accept. If the status of any of these teams change, we will notify the teams on the waitlist (in order).
