I am part of Cyberblue234 and we are one of the three team that is hosting this (super-dellic) event. I was just curious to see how many team members of any team attending plan on entering the talent contest.

I know some would not like to ruin any surprise but would anybody mind informing all of us what they plan on doing. You can always give hints to make it better. :D

Yes! awesome thread, a reminder to anyone who wants to do an act for the talent show must submit it by July 10th to Talent@IndianaRoboticsInvitational.org

Please include your name, number of people in your group, team affiliation, what your act is, approx. runtime, and any special equipment you will require such as microphones or music.

Is coding with 5 people talking to you at the same time a talent? ;)

But seriously, i'll pass this on to my team... sounds like a great time!

the pink team is also passing on their previous talent show entry, the nose pipes (for those that remember) but we will have a new team talent this year!

It would be nice to see something with a rhinestone theme in it.
Glitter, pizzazz..you know -
Can't help but think of some of 1902's safety glasses. Some of those were decorated with pink rhinestones, if I recall.

some of the spirit group decided to set up a "bling your safety glass" station in vegas. thought it was the best place for the glitz and bling. seemed to be a hit with the teams, judges and even refs. they set up another bling day in atlanta on thursday. my safety glasses will never be mistaken for someone elses, way too cool

Pink's (I think) all-girls Vex team "pimped out" my glasses, and then proceeded to answer a lot of questions I had about FVC, but before that they fought over who was going to talk to me. :D

I was at the I.R.I two years ago as a VEX student, but I don't remember the talent show all that well. Do people do basically anything? What's it like?

Going to be letting loose some "Canned Heat" if I end up going. The if is only because we haven't purchased tickets yet. =.

The IRI talent show has quite an impressive history (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48391).

There have been these sorts of acts:

singers (very good, and very bad)
pianists
unicyclists with a dancing FISH BOY
a master of the bull whip
an expert banjo picker
poets
rappers
community tooth brushers (aka: water conservationists),
contortionists
bands (yes, the DS&K (http://www.deansimmonsandthekamens.com) band got their start at the 2004 IRI)
skits
upside-down Mt. Dew chugging
comedians

My wife and kids look forward to seeing the IRI talent show each year. It is a fun, family show that gives people a chance to see the other talents FIRSTers have.

However... you can't just get up on stage and go. You gotta go through an approval process, managed by Ryan Dognaux. Check out his post earlier in this thread for detail of how to apply.

All contestants must take heed, as there is a judging panel, armed with white boards. Sometimes, the judges can get a bit harsh. For instance, last year's introduction of FISH BOY was a tough act to follow. If someone in a later act was not so good, the judges wrote "bring back FISH BOY".

This year's IRI talent show should be the best yet. I can't wait!

Andy, don't forget that you've had unicyclists without the fishboy too in 2004 ;)
980's "water conservation" act in 2004 is still, by far, my favorite IRI talent show act.

Oh, yes, there was a pair of unicyclists from 2004.

However, the "California water conservation" act was by team 1458, led by mentor Randall Lam.

You will probably end up hearing the Great and Fantastic Singing-Sensation Mike Harrison if you go to IRI this year. What he is singing he is not sure yet, or whether or not it will be serious (yes, he can sing "well" if he wants to). Just thought I'd let you guys get pumped for him. Another thing you guys should know about him is that he likes to refer to himself in the third person.

Thinking about doing some of my beatboxing. I'll have to practice a little more though (and get used to doing it in front of people).

Harrison dude.. if you sing... xD

If Amrit does his dance, I would seriously die of laughter but he is good. If he does it then he better wear that blue hat he brought in N.Y.. (i think it was from N.Y.)

I am looking forward to this event, it is one of the best events all weekend besides the finals matches. I have enjoyed myself at the talent show the last 2 years, and would not expect anything less this year because the organizers are awesome.:)

Last year was my first year viewing the talent show and it was very good. Fish was amazing and i was surprised to see all the different talents students have besides designing a robot.

Hey Andy, thanks for giving me credit for the "Ca Water Conservation"!! Of those 6 students I brought to the IRI that year, 4 are pursuing engineering careers (one is at Purdue). Even though 1458 won a regional this year, they probably won't be coming to give another memorable act!!

Are you limited to one act per team or can more than one person from your team perform???

Your team can perform any number of acts, they will all be judged on Friday prior to the talent show though.

I haven't received very many submissions yet, hope people are still thinking on their talents!

So I should have said that all acts are screened before the talent show on Friday, not judged. The judging takes place during the talent show :) Sorry for any confusion.

Ok, finally figured this out. I'm gonna sing Dance With me Tonight by Hugh Grant. All I need is a piano and two mikes. And I need someone to play the piano, but I'll work on that. Watch out Indiana here i come! :ahh:

Oops, just realized posting here doesn't make it official. need to email it... its ok, there wasn't going to be any surprise entrance through the ceiling or anything so it doesn't hurt if you guys know ;)

IRI is approaching slowly but surely, but I've only recieved a handful of talent show sign ups! This will not do; we need anyone who has a talent - actually, anything that's a crowd pleaser, to send an e-mail to Talent@IndianaRoboticsInvitational.org. It's a whole lot of fun. With so many teams coming this year, I hope to see all of you watching and a lot of you participating!
