Trying to delete Grub from a computer running Windows 2000. FDISK/MBR does not do the trick with this O/S. Can anyone advise the correct procedure?

Boot into a Windows 2000/XP Recovery Console (it's an option when you boot a setup CD of either). Use the commands FIXBOOT and FIXMBR.

That should do the trick.
