I installed warcraft on my laptop and when I tried to start the game with the disc in it told me it couldn't start directX 8.1 (which I installed from the disc), and to make sure my display drivers are up to date. (Which I didn't bother getting when I reinstalled windows XP because it seemed to work fine with the drivers already in XP). Any ideas?

EDIT: oops just realized I spelled the title wrong, that make me look reallllly smart........[/sarcasm]

Go to this page:
Massively long Microsoft link (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en)
and (assuming your copy of Windows is legit...sad that I have to say that) validate and download. That version of DirectX is the latest and is backwards-compatible.

If it still doesn't work, try Googling around for a fix with the exact text of the error message in double quotation marks. That makes Google search for those terms in that order.

Good luck,
JBot

Make sure you update your drivers and directX. I believe the latest version is 9.0c. Are you trying to run World of Warcraft or Warcraft III (not that it should matter, other that W3 is an older game).
