Yeah, last year we had the banana fish image, but I doubt we will be getting anything other than dave telling us the weight limit has been lowered to 5 pounds until december

Well, 8 pounds, but close enough....

.Is that excluding the battery and bumpers?

There's that trailing dot thing again. That had something to do with game hints last year. Too bad I can't remember. You know what they say, the mind is the second thing to go and I can't remember the first.

It's also a great time to design and test new designs. I hope I can help a team around here this year with some pre-season development.

Look, it's only August. You got approximately 6 months to enjoy your life until season starts. Enjoy it while it lasts...

it could be 8 of any of the following.....just remember pound is not just w unit of measure

It's August. Our last bit of free time before the school year.
& we're all on CD, already musing about the game? Jeez.

I'd like to enjoy my remaining 129 days, 12 hours, 35 minutes, and 30 seconds until Kickoff without even thinking about the game...

...as if that'll happen.

Well, just a bit of info, a surgical robot has been designed, one of our students for team 379 and his father (surgeon) were discussing this with me recently. It is known as the Da Vinci Surgical System. The surgeon, places his/her hands into a pair of gloves that, from my understanding, have sensors that replicate all the degrees of freedom found in the human hand. The surgeon also views the patient through some sort of vision system as the operation is going on. The gloves, therefore, control robotic hands/tools inside the operation room. And here we have it, PROOF that it will be an aerial game this year.

Remember that pounds is a unit of weight, not mass.

Blimp-balls will be tethered to the floor at varying heights. The Balls will have a series of D-rings to latch on to. Game play will consist of swinging from these balls tarzan style while shooting smaller balls through 3 rings.

A 20 point penalty will be assessed for touching the ground.

you guys try to hard to read into what he says......

all that means is FIRST is giving us a little leeway with the weight this year you are allowed to be 120lbs, or you can be "close enough" +/- 8 lbs

hmm this fish seems to be a blue angel fish (like dora from finding nemo)

maybe our alliance will be like schools of fish that will have to work together, and the driver stations will all be tethered together (hence one eye and the AT&T symbol)

and there will be an alliance (the black alliance) that is a bunch of autonomously programmed robots playing some kinda defense (deployed by FIRST)

Autonomous robots play dirty. Best to go with a low CG.

I have heard some weired ideas I wouldn't think its going to be an areal game I mean come on how are u going to get a robot to fly with big heavy stuff that comes in the kit. And water I don't think so how safe is that?..... Its not even so the kite looks like it laying down on a surface.

Maybe the kite refers to a robot operated teeter totter. One alliance robot goes on one end and another robot pulls down on the other end to lift it up. The teeter totter would be a field element. Maybe 8 pounds refers to the weight of a new type of battery they have chosen. Maybe that is why the battery was not included in the weight last year.

Our design team captain e-mailed me to tell me about this dream where he's reading the game manual for this year (lol)...

it IS a water game (in a way). Teams connect pipes and blocks (with enhanced capabilities or score multipliers activated by IR or something like that) to make the longest possible path to a bucket. Human player controls water flow from a spigot. Score is like length of pipe * percentage of bucket filled * any score multipliers).

I laughed at him... but it is a water game that would not involve a lot of manipulation of the standard chassis to work.

2008 Games Hint #3 is not the first time "TETRA" has shown up this year. Take a look at the kite picture in Post #21 added by non-other than dlavery.
TETRA is not always a four sided object. Sometimes its' a fish.

My instructor is suggesting that a triangle is going to be the shape this year. I mean, look at clue #2. It's set in Boston around Copley Square. This is my first guess on the 2008 game, becasue i decided not to ridicule my mind with this whole guessing game, so, i think that you will have to score something! Pretty crazy, that is what i have after reading all 1000+ posts about the hints... Spending my time wisely? I think so! :)
