Our team has a Rookies In Need of Support (RINOS) program. We put together a manual for rookies (http://raiderrobotix.org/RINOS_Team_Development_Manual_for_Rookies.pdf) (or even second year teams!) as a resource on how to get things going and keep them flowing smoothly.

Some of your questions may be answered by reading through this. :)

If you have any more specific or additional questions, feel free to ask!

I have a whitepaper on how to make good chassis and about several different types of wheels.

Hopefully it's of some use.

FIRST produced a team handbook that has a lot of great organizational information in it: http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Community/FRC/Team_Resources/FRC%20Handbook%20-%20Final3.pdf

The team timeline is really helpful too; it gives a good sense of how to plan for your many deadlines: http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Community/FRC/Team_Resources/Appendix%20D%20Team%20Sample%20Timeline3.pdf%20

FIRST Robotics Canada has a bunch of workshop presentations that might help you out, design, strategy, how to run a team, and a slew of others.

You can also give a look at the Team Resources page on the NYC/NJ FIRST website. We have some FRC resources, various tutorials and guides and even some sites to help with fundraising.

Hope this helps!

Check out the NEMO (Non-Engineering Mentor Organization) website: www.firstnemo.org We have lots of resources for rookie and veteran teams in the non-technical areas.

Also your team mentor might like to join in the FIRST Senior Mentor teleconference (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58748)this Thursday, September 20, 2007 for a discussion of "Fall Development Strategies".

How about the whitepapers section of CD-Media? There are lots of good ideas in there. Even if some or most of them are not workable for your team, you can get some pretty good ideas from there.

Anna:

Lots of help is coming via the President's Circle.

Another resource is MOEmentum. http://www.fsrobotics.org/moe365//moementum.php This resource was developed to assist teams during their rookie year, but non-rookies have utilized the information also.

Best of luck this season!

That's what FIRST is all about. If you have questions involving anything feel free to post here on CD or even contact me personally. I'm almost always on AIM, or you could PM me or shoot me an E-mail. I'd be glad to help you and your team.
