View Full Version : How mechanically inclined are you?

I ran across a good quiz that sees how mechanically and electrically inclined you are.
Definitely look carefully at the drawings, I got a 72 the first time. I'm going to go back and retake it. Don't use the "back" button, it will mess the quiz up! Make sure you're set on your answer before going forward.
And now, for the link you have been waiting for, http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/quizzes/MechanicalAptitude.php
Enjoy! :)
LOL, I got a 74! (Maybe I should be an EM, not a NEM!!!) Actually, it's been a very long time since any of those principles were taught to me, but I guess I guessed well on the answers. Not well enough to pass, though.

Neat, except the writers of the quiz seem to think force can be measured in kilograms, which is incorrect. Also. in question 31 the correct answer is not listed in the choices. I got an 88%.

I got an 84. I too disliked the problems with kg instead of Newtons or pounds. Was question 31 that one with something like box A weighs 300kg and it was on a lever with box B? If so, I agree, no correct answer. Plus, the quiz's statement that it doesn't measure what you know is dead wrong; for example, the "which of the following ignites easiest" question is purely knowledge. Overall a pretty cool quiz, but rather flawed, and I definitely wouldn't use it to choose 'mechanically apt' people for anything.
I got an 82 :]
Cool test, but agreed, a few kind of bad questions

I got 88.
Its a cool idea for a test, but badly implemented.
Maybe someone reading this can do better. ;) ;)
I got a 90 on it. Most of the questions were pretty straight forward, but the question about opposite of increasing speed, deceleration isn't the correct answer because it doesn't exist!! It's negative acceleration, someone just made up that term.

I feel much better about myself now, I got a 98. really.
There are a few questions that are technically incorrect, but in all the questions the right answer is clear enough, except for one (I am certain it's the one I got wrong): In a naturally aspirated engine, why does the air enter the cylinder? B: From the suction from the piston moving down, or C: From atmospheric pressure pushing it in. I chose B, because if the piston wasn't moving no air would move, but I bet they wanted to hear C
Don't peek at the spoiler until after you've taken the test.!

I got a 78, though I believe I mis-clicked a few things.
(That, and the last time I remember even thinking about a pulley was in 2004.)

I failed... 74%.

74% I did better than I thought I would. Kinda... some of those concepts I never went over but still think I did pretty good.
Never learned water pressure, or PSI, or some other random ones.
The gear ones were real simple.

74% yay for common sense :(
76%.. I also didn't do anything with PSI and what not and I was exactly calculating the pulley problems like we are suppose to in physics lol (not that I'm in physics) oh well some questions were a bit weird... but I don't think I'm that mechanically inclined anyways I just learn from mistakes lol :p

Nice test....
Scored a 96% but then again I am a Protronie

I got an 84%. I tried to go as fast as I could. The electrics were easy.

This test is pretty cool.
I got an 86% :D

I got 80%, I wish there was a back button, because I realized a few answers were wrong right after I clicked 'submit'.

You know what? I did the exact same thing.
Anyhow, the test seemed to rely a lot on common sense and (especially in the mechanical portion) stepping back and double-checking your answer. It's a cute little quiz, but not exactly something I'd call the defining measure of how good someone is mechanically.

I got a 78, but I'm an animator so it's ok that I failed.
Sometimes random guessing can work.

I failed.... I made the lowest score yet. 64% with 320 points. I rushed through and misclicked two or three times though. There were a few that I had no idea about either, like some of the engine and shaft questions. Over all I think I did okay. I'll retake later and put some effort into it and see what I get! :D

I think I win with a 52%... I knew there was a reason that I did poorly in physics... :D
Edit: Do I get an extra point for knowing that they used the wrong form of "principle"?

86. Fun test, but a little flawed... (kg isn't a force measurement!)
76. Some questions I hit submit, then realized I had read the question backwards. Others I had no idea how to solve, never learned them in Physics.

88.
Like Beth, I found the misuse of "principal" annoying.
Like Don and Eddie, I answered piston suction instead of atmospheric pressure, although the answers are equivalent: does current flow in a battery circuit because the positive terminal has a higher voltage, or because the negative terminal has a lower voltage?
Like Al, I thought the electrical questions were extremely elementary while the mechanical ones required some physical reasoning. Also like Al, I was trying to go as fast as possible.

WooT! 88%. The funny thing is that I didn't think that PLTW actually taught me anything, but I actually used past knowledge from that class on this.

The funny thing is that I didn't think that PLTW actually taught me anything, but I actually used past knowledge from that class on this.It would appear that your PLTW teacher succeeded in tricking you into learning something, after all. Teachers are sneaky, that way! ;)

I got an 82. Not bad for a programmer :p
This really tested my knowledge of techincal terms and practices... the common sense ones I got no problem.

I got a 96, but their use of kilograms as a force bothered me.
86%, i agree that they need a back button, i realized 2 of them were wrong right after i submitted their answers.
I got an 84...not bad I guess
96% I'm pretty proud of myself :)
