View Full Version : Herff Jones Class Rings
I'd heard about other students getting FIRST logos on their rings, but I was disappointed to find out that the company that my school uses, Herff Jones, does not offer the FIRST logo. I gave the representative a copy of the logo, and she said that it could be done with 8 other students, though I doubt that there are 8 students from my team ordering one. I mentioned that it was an international competition and that there would be a larger audience, so she said she would check with someone higher, but they had some doubts. Has anyone else had any luck with Herff Jones? I might not get a ring if I can't get anything robotics-related on it. I looked at Jostens' site, but it would be difficult to deal with another company, not getting all of the school exclusive/custom offers.
BTW, I know there are a few threads on rings, but I haven't seen anything related to Herff Jones specifically.

My school uses the same company. I was supprised that they had "electronic gaming" but not the FIRST logo. They told me that if they ever did get the FIRST logo that I could have my ring re-made, but it would cost me $90.

Oy. Amanda Morrison mentioned about Heff Jones 4 years ago (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=186675&postcount=8). 476 is the first team to get a company to get the FIRST symbol on a class ring. Many other companies have done this since, and I listed them in a different thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50755&highlight=class+rings). If Heff Jones no longer supplies the FIRST symbol, it is easy to buy from another company that does.

Unless your school does something specific, Jostens can probably make your ring. The name of your school can be put on the ring, and you can get the FIRST logo and whatever other sides you want.
f you call Jostens, mention that you're using their service for the FIRST logo, and ask if they can offer you the same things your school does with Herff Jones- It never hurts to ask!
Its actually quite tough to do that because I've asked faculty about it, and the school has some contract with Herff Jones and I absolutely have to get it made by them if I were to buy a class ring.
I really wanted a FIRST logo on my class ring as well and even planning on buying one through someone else at a neighboring school but that didn't work out.
I did inquire about the FIRST logo but I got the same custom design-custom fee answer.

NBTHS uses Herff Jones. I emailed the guy that was coming to our school and explained what robotics was all about. I explained the importance of getting the FIRST logo on the rings and I gave him the number of students on the team, so he knew he wasn't just going to go through the trouble for a small group. He emailed me back and said that he was going to see what he could do for us.
In the end, the logo was made available to those who wanted it. I got it on my ring and it looked great. He was only able to have the available on certain rings, though, so if you're picky about getting one of the smaller rings they have for girls, they might not be able to do it.
Contact the person who will be coming to your school and see what he can do for you.

Hey Kids---
Guess what---your school is probably getting part of the profits from the "official" school ring company coming to your school. (called a kickback) The school doesn't want you to buy it somewhere else--they want you to pay more than you have to, and get what you don't want.
As Barry mentioned in a thread above, I got a company to do the FIRST logo years ago.
SO how is your school going to know if you go to a jewelry store, or even WalMart and get your school ring???? How can they force you to buy YOUR class ring from the "Official" school ring supplier?
Kids--don't be buffaloed into buying something you don't want. You can go online and purchase your ring, or go down to a jewelry store---how is the school going to find out???? A school can't "require" you to buy a ring.
Where I teach, the sophomores are crowded into the auditorium (during class time) and given a huge sales pitch to pay for a ring that is more expensive than any other supplier (they are more expensive, because the school is getting money from the students). Kids that aren't fooled by the huge sales pitch go other places to get the ring they want, at a resonable price.
I hope this helps you---I hate it when kids are taken advantage of for things they are emotionally attached --such as class rings.
my 2 cents
My school went with Jostens and let me tell you, their FIRST logo is completly wrong! I have had my ring redone over 3times now and it still is not correct.... Yes the logo is the triangle circle and square but the way it is, looks like they just put another Triangle circle and square right under the top one. (Theirs no slant/ its crushed together, the circle is and oval and the square always looks like crap) My advice go to wal mart they have the FIRST logo and it loooks and comes out 100% better than jostens!
Herff Jones is a great Indianapolis company so I hope you buy all their stuff and help to enrich my local economy.
Having said that, go find a local jeweler and get what you want not what the school says you have to have. I bet you can even find a local place that can even let you design and print your own ring on a 3d printer that they can use for casting purposes.

My daughter got her 2012 class ring from Herff Jones and it has a perfect FIRST logo on one side. Times change
I too have my class ring from Herf Jones, and it has the FIRST Logo on it. I couldn't have been more excited to get it!

Herff Jones did ours as well. I posted a picture of one earlier. (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/37430) The students that had it done were really excited and proud to have it on them.

horse hooey -
They cannot legally compel you to purchase a class ring from a specific company. It is a free country and you have the right to purchase a class ring from anyone you want.

THis is the company our school uses and the FIRST symbol is available, but it is not listed in the catalog. Maybe the rep at your school is just unfamiliar with it. Check their online site or call the company directly. I can't imagine they discontinued it.

The five year gap between these posts might account for the availability of the symbols.

I can imagine that I'm not the only one who read this^ post, then had to check the OP before facepalming incredibly hard. Usually I check the date on threads I don't remember seeing the day before, but this is blowing my mind right now. Oops.
Well, at least it appears that the problem has been solved.

HAHA didn't even notice that.. just saw it pop up in new posts. .yeah i guess so. LOL Probably the reason it is now available..so thanks to those that pushed for it!! :)
