I downloaded 3ds Max 2008 but cannot install the product. I get this error message:

"This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact system administrator. C:\MaxInstall\support\msxml\msxml6.msi"

This is a buisness location that allows our FRC team to use the computer lab after hours. Our IT guy came over and disabled all security settings, but on the next try we got the same error message.

I emailed Autodesk, but I was wondering if anyone here had the same problem & solved it?

if youre running vista you may need a update, or try running the installer as an administrator (right click and you'll see it)

I forgot to write the computers are running XP Professional and I was logged in as an administrator.

Check out this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59589), post #8. It sounds like it could be the same problem (except in that case it was Inventor that wouldn't install).

Then check out post #11 there for the solution. I can send you the file I used if you PM me. Make sure you know exactly where it is located in your Autodesk folders and then you can replace the one you have.
