Just an idea... what a great way to advertise to teenagers.
Besides what is the average consumption of mountain dew during the six week build period?
I can't remember how many cases our team went through last year. We had some nice $ from the can returns.
Preaching to the choir, son.

We drink water, more than a case a day, trying to avoid the "evil" of High Fructose Corn Syrup. You need to read up on how bad that stuff is for you. I Think FIRST would be wrong to promote something that is so very bad for general health, especially to impressionable high school kids.
I'm not opposed to any of the other ingredients however.
Don
My personal answer: YES. Very yes.
Although, those who know me know I should definitely NOT be allowed anything with caffeine.
Also, it'll probably kill you. Yay water!

i don't know about Mountian Dew, i'm really partial to NOS drinks, that stuff keeps me going though build season, and classes.

Should it come with the kits? No. Should a coupon for it come with the kits? Yah. Pepsi is the official drink company of my family and our school. :D But as mentioned above, some are opposed to promoting those kinds of drinks to impressionable young folk like us. Maybe they should just include a coupon book that includes other stuff, like Pizza Hut, Home Depot, etc...

If they are going to go to that trouble, why not just put money in there? Also, in response to those who oppose mountain dew I say this 'You got to die some way and it is better this way then alcohol, cigarettes, or coffee. Besides, it tastes good.'

Lol agreed, but it would be really sweet if FIRST got together with big restraunt Franchises, and then had them donate some money, or special deals with FIRST Robotics teams.

Yes, you should NOT be allowed to have caffeine :). Everyone needs to trust me on this...she gets so hyper :)
Also, it'll probably kill you. Yay water!
....WATER GAME?:ahh: jk jk

I totally agree, even if they are BOGO or Buy 2 get one free. But defiantly not giving raw mountain dew in the kit. I could get messy if you think about it.

Coupons don't actually cost anyone money. It's only taking part of the profit from the company, the only "money" a company would have to pay is to print off the coupons.

'You got to die some way and it is better this way then alcohol, cigarettes, or coffee. Besides, it tastes good.'
Debatable. Coffee is not as bad for you as Mountain Dew. MD does taste good though. I prefer to die in space on my 85th birthday, thanks.
Should a coupon for it come with the kits? Yah.Actually a brilliant idea! I Like it! Probably too late for the 2008 season, but not a bad idea for the future.

40-50 member team, with a strong affection for fluid refreshments. Oh yeah, we go through a lot.
Although as a whole our team's preference seems to be more along the lines of Pepsi or water, since they are usually in greater abundance (Mountain Dew cases are gone in a day or two, haha).

I voted for the lowest number because I don't want our kits to get too heavy...
I am currently looking at an empty bottle of Bawls, and according this, there is no high fructose corn syrup in sight, just the regular corn syrup.
I know where I'll be getting my caffeine during build season!
You can order a case of 24 of Bawls online for about 32 dollars, which is far cheaper per bottle than it is to buy them individually.

Not necessarily mountain dew - Imagine what would happen if there was any kind of accident! "Bridge flooded with mountain dew..." Eek! Dangerous..
On the note of coupons, it might be cool to get something from a bulk store like discount membership...Costco, Sam's Club...way cheaper than the average franchise, especially if you're feeding a team for build season.
Lol we have a few on my team thats the same way.
I love the Dew but i know what it does to me so i partion it off through out build season, thanks to FIRST im more of a water type of guy now!

I think FIRST or even local teams should try and contact major business franchises, and try to get some coupons or gift certificates that could donate to the teams. Pizza Hut, Subway, Quiznos, Papa John. Or maybe Chinese food restraints!! Yum!

All I know is, that after three days at a regional on only 8 hours of sleep, I need something a little potent then mountain dew. NOS energy drinks work pretty well.
All we ever drank was bottled water. If you really want some caffeine, you should try coffee. It's got way more caffeine than most pop.

Well, having to get up at 8o'clock in the morning on a saturday, Mountain Dew does a pretty good job of waking me, as well as the rest of my team, up.
Mountain Dew along With French Vanilla Cappacino's and Donuts. Like they say "Robot building is easy just add donuts!" Thank you Dunkin Donuts!!!!

I've been trying to get my team to order a flat of Spike Shooter (banned in a state or two), for those really late nights. 300mg of caffeine ftw! It also has a blood flow increaser that's present in viagra... But hey, that crap wakes you up! And keeps you awake all day! And night! And the day after that!
(I don't actually want to get some of this.... I'm kind of a health nut.)
We don't really drink Dew.
Personally, I don't like it at all.
I drink a ton of water. Probably close to a flat a week during build.
As of this summer we've become addicted to Jones Green Apple and Berry Lemonade, to the tune of 2-3 cases per week between 2-3 people

We do the "Starbucks Run" every now and then in the morning :]
Usually we tend to have more trouble getting up in the mornings on weekends then staying up late at night:D I mean common, were in High School.
I think FIRST or even local teams should try and contact major business franchises, and try to get some coupons or gift certificates that could donate to the teams. Pizza Hut, Subway, Quiznos, Papa John. Or maybe Chinese food restraints!! Yum!
Many chain restaurants have a community budget. Some are even required to spend a certain amount each month.
Just ask the manager and you will be suppressed what you may get.
We just got a sweet new pop cooler that was donated to the athletic department, they didn’t need it and offered it to us.
I know I will probably be shot for this but I personally dislike mountain dew. I like coke because it has that burning feeling when you chug it that wakes you up...

Can't distribute Mtn Dew at kickoff - you couldn't carry that much. It's bad enough carting out the parts. "Let's see, what can we fit in the back of the SUV? We'll either have to leave behind some of the Dew, or go without motors this year. Ah, easy decision." And the motors are left in the parking lot.
Coupons sound like a good idea.

Just imagine what that burning feeling (probably the phosphoric acid content) is doing to your body. (Well, probably not much since your intestines are basic, neutralizing the acid, and your stomach has far stronger acids... it can't be good for you though) I have heard that (I'm pretty certain that this is correct, but not 100%) coke syrup is actually a hazardous material and trucks carrying it have to have a hazardous material diamond marking it as such... take from that what you will.
Anyway, I used to like Surge; thus, I was disappointed when it was discontinued. Naturally, I was very happy to see Vault (aka Surge + a little more caffeine) on the market, and Vault is now probably my favorite carbonated awakeness booster. Coffee, however, is still my weapon of choice in the morning for doing the actual waking. When finals come around, I am usually seen packing a bunch of caffeinated mints and gum, too. (Last year, during finals and the week prior, I went through 300 Penguin mints, a box of Foosh mints, 72 Bawls mints, a box or two of Jolt gum, 67 XTZ energy mints, and that was all in addition to my usual 3 cups of coffee a day)
I more of a Monster person, as Mountain Dew has little effect now. I like to save the Monster for when I really need it so that my system doesn't get used to it like what happened with Red Bull and Mountain Dew. For some reason, I still think coffee is disgusting.
Liquid + KOP = BAD! I can only imagine how many accidents would occur. The coupon idea sounds awesome though.

Dr. Pepper. At 10, 2, and 4 (on Saturday)
Personally, I don't think as clearly when on Mtn. Dew... Awake, yes. Thinking productively, no.
Bawls taken in small doses every so often on the other hand... :D

Personally, I can't stand anything that has Taurine in it (I believe that's what it's called). So usually coffee and Pepsi are my allies, though I've tried Vault, which is pretty good. Jones are also good, but not very effective for keeping me awake.
I've yet to try Bawls, but my local game center sell them like hotcakes, so I'm willing to give them a try this season.

Wow, I haven't seen the 10-2-4 in years. I remember when I was a sprout asking my uncle what that meant while slurping Dr. Pepper and eating a Peanut Buster Parfait at DQ. My favorite memory of him was him trying to tell me about the body's metabolism and how to drink or eat something at 10, 2, and 4 to beat the natural dip in energy you normally have. I hadn't thought of him in years, thanks!

I've often said... sleep is for wimps.
Of course my coffee maker brews 110 cups.
Got a "small" 12 cup Mr Coffee on my desk for when I just want a quickie .
As for Mt Dew... I think Valute offers better pick me up.

Anyone like nestee? For some illogical reason that drink picks me up.
Pulled around 40 all-nighters just this semester, and nestee helps a great deal.
Our team's making an attempt to cut down on the health risk of being on a team (obesity from the food and drinks; cancer from the aluminum shavings; drill bits, wood shavings, freshmen hitting your eye, etc).
But back to the subject... Bawls, please. Dew's not bad, either, but I've never had a buzz from drinking Dew.
A few dews a day for me... I was up to 6 cans a day for a while but started to cut back. I have a Redbull maybe once or twice a month as an extra pick me up.

Tea. Green tea after a half hour nap does wonders, but then I still wonder about that time I nearly fell asleep on my bike... I'm a tea fiend, as are some of my friends. The sugar in soda drives my physical energy level far too high (not good for Solidworks), but our team drinks cases and 2-liter bottles and cans of water and soda, depending on mood/person/week/time of day. Also, there's nothing like an irrational dose of caffeine and/or food for an instant morale boost! I think it's a better idea to include coupons for food.

I prefer Nestea if anything but I'm a bigger fan of ThumsUp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thums_Up).
Yes, if cans were possible that would be sweet, butI guess coupons would be o.k.:) And for a buzz I would go with AMP even though everyone at school would agree I don't need any caffine.

You know, Coca Cola is a bigtime sponser of FIRST, maybe they could just give couponsin the KOP, that would be awesome.
There in no Mountain Dew here in Israel, never tasted it.
will be in the states late January though (im an FTA) and i must get a taste of it then =]

Idk about it coming in the kit of parts, something just does't seem safe when you mix mountian dew and electronics and other stuff. Persionally I usually drink alot of Arizona ice tea (low on cash), coffee (when im cold), and mountain dew (every other time) during the build season. It never hurts that my school has a store exactly the same as a wawa (not called a wawa due to legal reasons) and i go there like twice a build night. I spend like 30-50 dollars a week during build on stuff from there lol.
Just an idea... what a great way to advertise to teenagers.

No, but a coupon for one along with a list of nearby establishments that carry them could be considered.
