View Full Version : Pascack Pandemonium 2008- Post Season Event
Team 1676 is hosting a pre-season event in the Fall of 2008 entitled Pascack Pandemonium.
We want to get a general feel as to how many teams would be interested in attending and we were thinking about scheduling it on the third weekend of October.
Here's some general information:
Date: October 18th, 2008 - all day event
Location: Pascack Hills High School, Montvale, New Jersey
- close to exits off the Garden State Parkway and the New York Thruway
We're looking for 32 teams, and would have four-team alliances (for the play-offs).
If anyone knows of any conflicts with other off-season events, please post back.
Also, if your team would be potentially interested, please post back too.
Thanks! and we're excited about this possibility!!! :D

I'm trying to get our off-season life going next year. Since it's only in NJ, I should be able to get administration to give us some thumbs up.

Why would you want to have 4 teams on one alliance? That seems like it could crowd the "field" or whatever the course happens to be for the 2008 competition, since most likely the official competition will only have 3 teams per alliance. Of course, you never know, they could increase it to 4 teams per alliance, but probably not.

I believe that the purpose would not to be to have 4 teams on the field at one time, but to have an alliance of 4, with one team off the field during the matches. The benefits of that are that all 32 teams would get a chance to participate in the elimination rounds, and there is always a backup bot available if one gets broken. It can save time, especially at off-seasons when teams that are out quickly pack up and go home. It's been done in a few off-seasons I've been to and has worked out well.

That is exactly what I meant. I guess I should have explained more. I thought everyone knew about that system, but I guess not. At a lot of the off-season events we attend they set up the elimination rounds that way. The top 8 seeded teams choose 3 teams to be on their alliance, but one team sits out each match. Every team has to play in at least one match.
I just realized that I mistitled this thread. It should say pre-season event, not post season. :(
I didn't catch that when I was creating the thread.

Um, if you don't know the new game yet, and you're playing the 'old' game, then wouldn't it be post-season after all?
Anyway, even though an off-season event is wayyy lots of work, this one should be outstanding, since the facility is new, there's plenty of room, and a lot of teams in the area.
Umm, I think I'll be washing my hair that day :ahh:
Don
1923 will definitely look into it. I'll probably be there no matter what. I live for the offseason...that is, when i'm not living for the actual season.

He has a very valid point. It would be post-season if we're playing the 2008 season's game.
Anyway, I'm about to send out the email to our members right now!

It would awesome if you guys came! If you guys decide to come you would probably need to get a hotel for the night (unless you wanted to wake up really really early), but there are a lot of hotels in the area that we could recommend. :)

Yea, In fact I would recommend the new Courtyard Marriot in Montvale, just up the road from the school, the Park Ridge Marriot, or the WoodCliff Lake Hilton. All of which are less than 2 mi. from the school.

With Libby on this one... except it will be brought to 102's attention - however probably not until AFTER the 2008 regular season. But I'd be there :D
And if you are trying to get a census on teams would consider it, right now may not be the best time... seeing how 2008 hasn't started yet and the first things on teams' minds is the actual 2008 season. You'll definately get a better census after the Championships in April... just my 2 cents.

But chances are it'll be two thumbs up, provided it doesn't conflict. I think most teams are always up for some off-season action.

"Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter."
(1089 would love to add it to their list of things to do as long as it woudn't conflict with something we've already established)
Now that the season is officially over :( *tear*
it's time to start thinking about the off-season again!

I was just wondering what you guys are planning to do at the event. Anything special?:D
I can't wait, hopefully our rookie drivers will be able to handle the robot as well as our drivers did during the season. Otherwise I doubt we'll be at the same level we were during the season. =/
Let me know how I can help with the event Lizzie.

Well, I can say there will be an awesome raffle, and some nice give-aways for attending teams. It's summer now, so planning takes a back seat to tanning, but I know everything facility- and field-wise appears to be all set. I think the committee realizes that it shouldn't be 'just another off-season match' so creativity is in use. I, personally, want to see some seminars on things like robot design, manipulators, arm joints, and, especially, the new controller & programming system.

That would be great, I'll try to get some more rookie teams in on this. :)

I am told there will be a Lego Mindstorms NXT kit given away to someone attending with their team. Remember that the NXT uses a version of LabView for programming....which would be a real learning advantage to any team using LabView for their 2009 robot.:D

Now I hear other door prizes will be offered to students attending with their registered team.
I'm thinking we need to start a new thread for all this, get it said right at the start.
