Does it appear to you guys that the Red fork truck robot broke the 6FT rule in the blue alliance home stretch in the game animation? Where are the PENALTY listings anyone able to find them?
I think you're right, Chris. After reading <G36>, I can't figure out how descoring is ever supposed to work. (I started a thread about it over here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=668363) too... a little more general than your question, though I didn't see yours first.) As far as what a PENALTY is, that's covered in the definitions section.
PENALTY: A 10-point decrement in the ALLIANCE score assigned when a deserving violation of the game rules has been identified by a REFEREE.
when you begin you have to be 6ft. After you start height is unlimited. When you end you have to be 6ft again.
when you begin you have to be 6ft. After you start height is unlimited. When you end you have to be 6ft again.
That's not correct. The starting height restriction is 5ft. What Chris is referring to is this rule:
<G36> HOME STRETCH Height Restriction – ROBOTS in the HOME STRETCH of the opposing ALLIANCE can not be more than 6 feet tall. A PENALTY will be assigned for each infraction.

rewatch the video. The robot reaches from one side of the field to the other. I am presuming that the 6 foot rule applies so that you can not just stick up an arm and block. its all about subtitles. You have 6 seconds where you can block with no penalty. So, obviously this would play into a ZONE defense. I liked last years game better. More defensive opportunities.
Here is my thought about the rule.
My interpretation of the rule leads to that the rule applies only while your robot is physically SITTING in the opponents zone, not if you just reach into it.
But that's just me.

i think you cant be over 6ft after passing that last line in the red zone...till their finish line. That should be the home stretch like in racing. But after that line you can turn around and bump it off. That way you dont interrupt a last minute hurdle from going over

what about reaching over a wall to knock off the opposing teams ball

No, this is what I am talking about here:
Still frame shot.

The red fork truck robot is not reaching from one side to the other.

I had the same though and posted this in a different thread, the robot in the game animation does it, are we not allowed to?
It says that you can not extend past a height of six feet in your opponents Home Stretch, so how are you supposed to get your color ball of their overpass?
Rule <G36>
HOME STRETCH Height Restriction – ROBOTS in the HOME STRETCH of the opposing ALLIANCE can not be more than 6 feet tall. A PENALTY will be assigned for each infraction.
also
Rule <G22>
Direction Of Traffic – ROBOTS must proceed around the TRACK in a counter-clockwise direction. Once a ROBOT has CROSSED a LANE MARKER or FINISH LINE, it shall not break the plane of the line by moving in the clockwise direction. A PENALTY will be assigned for each infraction.
So are you supposed to go passed your opponents finish line, turn around, and hit your ball off the overpass with out crossing the plane of the Finish Line? The robot in the animation extends past the 6 foot height limit to reach the ball.
there are also threads about this here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60767)

i have said this before in another threas so ill just copy and paste it
yea i was wondering this too, but worst comes to worst and the rule is correct, then u can just knock off the trackball from underneath since there is no plexiglass panel preventing it from being knocked off. This method could also be used to knock off your own trackballs during the hybrid period. It saves time becasue it does not require an arm or claw to extend up there and knock it off, all that u have to do would be attach an extending rod (piston) on top of ur bot and hit the trackball at an angle to knock it off. People may say however that this may interfere with the rules saying that it doesnt count if u pass the line before knocking it down. Well, the most u would go would be rite on the line, and technically, it cant be counted as u passed it because the ENTIRE robot has not passed the line as regulated and stated by the manual.
This is what happens when u read the manual like 50 times.

i think youre right, i think its just that you cannot be over 6 ft when the match ends if your in their zone.

But according to 6.2.1 the home stretch is bounded by the finish line - if you poke at the ball from underneath, you still haven't crossed the finish line completely, meaning you're still in the home stretch and open to a G36 penalty.

someone said in another thread that you can pass over the line then back up about half way over the line and poke at it and wont get penalized....anyone know anything about that?????

well, depends on what u do, the extending piston could reach just up to 6 ft and still knock the trackball off, the area in which the trackball rests is pretty big (around 30 inches i believe). This means that at least some part of the curvature of the ball should be below the 6.5 ft bar and within ur reach. (If it were a square or rectangle, the edge would be at exactly 6 ft) All in all, u can still hit the ball at exactly 6 ft cuz the bottom of the ball i estimate to be at least one or two inches below 6ft. That gives i think some room to play with.

This would be a penalty, not for <G36>, but for <G22>.

Yea sry if that wasnt very clear, i understand where u are coming from, i should've been a bit more descriptive in what i said

when I ran the field in inventor, the ball is right at or just over the 6 feet, so hitting it from the bottom is not an option, unless you hit it with the other trackball...

This issue was resolved in Update #1 - I'm closing this one in order to clean up the number of posts no longer needed.
Besides the fact, that the animation isn't an official rules interpretation.
