they are permitted one place to look for encoders is digikey.com (http://www.digikey.com)

Are encoders permitted in this year's season? If so where can we order them?As long as they meet the parts usage requirements from section 8 of the manual, you can use them. Try U.S. Digital (http://www.usdigital.com) as well for encoders. Their E4P (http://www.usdigital.com/products/e4p/) is particularly convenient for FIRST applications.
