how much do peoples robots weigh??? ours is 85 Lbs. and we are barrley drivable.

Ours will weight approximately 120 lbs

We're shooting for 103, but it will actually weigh either 119.9 or 120.0 depending on whether the code has more 0s or 1s in it
(and the fact that you actually know what your robot weighs now puts you about 4 weeks ahead of where we were our rookie year)

Ours will weight approximately 120 lbs
so how much does it weigh now.
I don't know yet, but I suspect that the ideal weight is around 100 pounds. This will be a reasonable trade off between mass and acceleration.

Right now ours still weighs zero pounds, because we haven't even started building it. But we're figuring the chassis and drivetrain to be right around 50 lbs. Then there's the electronics, pneumatics, and all that stuff on top that will magically make the ball score billions of points. That will add up to a lot of weight.

we are hoping for 100 Lbs. but since our robot wighes 85 we are kind scared because we only have a driveable robot, with no scoring stucture.

We are just now starting on finished parts and finished frame. We had a prototype frame running but we never weighed it.

What is your frame made out of and what is your drive train? I estimate our base and drive train will only be around 35-45 lbs.

well our frame is aluminimum, its a double layar frame, twice as big as last year. sofar we have 4 motors, a pnumatic pump thing, 4 of those clyinders, 4 weels, a hole electircal board is on a quarter inch peice of wood. there are some other little things but thats the basics we have done so far.
sorry for spelling.

We used the kitbot frame, very light and strong and we biuld up from there. Try mounting your electronics onto a piece of 1/8 inch LEXAN, this will be much lighter than the wood.

great minds think alike! i was just talking to my teacher about getting a diffrent eletric board but i didnt know what metiral to use.

Our drivetrain weighs around 50Lbs so we are in good shape.

LEXAN is great. Strong and light. You can pick it up at most metal supply stores or Lowes and Hone Depot.
You might want to think about modifying your frame to make it lighter.

I really wouldn't worry about having the compete bottom of it weighing 85 lbs, as long as I knew I could make the rest of the robot weigh less than 35 pounds.
Weight down low is better than weight up high....think about what it takes to make the robot fall over.
What is the plan for the "stuff" that will handle the ball (if any)?

yea were going to cut some peices off, maybe drill some holes in the pnumatic cylinders.. LOLs. na were barly going to be the weight we want. were going for speed.

This (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61909&highlight=weight+estimator) post of mine may help a few of you out with early weight estimates. It is a spreadsheet I made to calculate the weight of motors, transmissions, and electronics. We actually found that our robot will weigh significantly less than expected, probably under 100 pounds. That is far better than last year when we weighed in at 110.0!

we would like our robot to weigh about 60 lbs, but with some early calculations, we could end up weighing 65 lbs. Its all about speed for us so that weight should give us our max acceleration and speed.

Just be a little careful about how you structure your lexan/polycarbonate. 1/8" polycarbonate can do wonders... we build our entire robot out of polycarbonate every year.
Yes, polycarbonate is strong and light, but it can be flimsy in certain applications.
It makes an amazing electronics board, but using it in a drive train will take a little bit of planning. The easiest way to strengthen it is to bend the edges of your piece... It will still be bendable along the diagonals (if it's a square), but it will take a lot of flexability out of the center of the piece, which is what you need in a drive train.
If anyone needs any help in using polycarbonate, feel free to message me.
Good luck!
edit: After taking a second look, I see no one mentioned using polycarbonate in a drive train... oops... but I'll leave the information here anyway. Polycarbonate will be great for an electronics board.
Is that 85 lbs. with or without the battery?
Seems a little high however you do have pneumatics installed, which takes up quite a bit of weight.

thats with out the battery.
These are generous with roughly 10% overestimation each:
Drive Train - 40 (precise)
Manipulator - 35
Pneumatics - 23
Electronics - 7
Powder Coating - 5
We're looking at just over 110lbs.

we weighed our base and we weigh 55 pounds as of right now. thats out frame, drivetrain, and electronics. we still need pneumatics and our manipulator.

Shooting for 119, If it's light we will add lead
Right now we are 30 pounds + under without electronics.

I really don't know about our other parts, but our frame alone weighs 9 pounds, 1/8 aluminum (I think, possibly 1/16) Our claw is hopefully going to be composite, if we can get it to them within the week.
This is about all I can give for information as of now, I just transfered over to programming (of which I know none)
Hopefully if I remember I will post some spy shots of our super light frame within the week....assuming I remember.

Are teem's robot is some ware between 25 and 80 pounds ( chasy, electronics board, drive trane,…) We still have a bit to go but I think the heaviest part of are bot is finished.:D

Our CAD model tells us 115...
It still doesn't have electronics, pneumatic tubing, wire, or chain....

The estimate is 113 lbs. for the finished product.
Currently we are at 45 lbs. for drivetrain, electronics, and part-of-that-other-thing-which-I-won't-tell-you-about (;))
105 with everything on it.
