yea reminds me of a robot 401 made years ago...though we were using drill motors.

as for the carpet we are lucky to have a rather large area in our shop that is carpeted.

Yes I would find some carpet. . . . if needed take it to a local business that has short commercial grade carpeting in their lobby. The robot may not turn how you would like it to. Just a word of warning.

I feel like it is necessary to reiterate this statement. The friction of carpet is very different than what you are seeing in your tile hallway. Your robot WILL perform differently on carpet.

Every year I see this at least twice...a robot that is flawless in a hallway or a gym, but when it gets on the field it can't overcome the friction and is only good at going in a straight line or worse it can't move at all.

Please Please Please find some carpet and try it out, at full final weight.

I am going to third Greg's request. Please get carpet and try it out on that. You will be suprised at the differences.

After 4 years of coming home from the pre-ship scrimmage and having to rework our drivetrain, I'm going to jump on the "find some carpet to test it on" bandwagon. The scrimmage was always the first time we drove the robot on field carpeting. The year we did tank treads we had to significantly rework the drivetrain in the two days before shipping, and still had problems on the carpeting.

After that, we got a piece of actual field carpeting to roll out in the hallway for testing.

speed isnt everything bud...

and since im posting, i might as well jump on the bandwagon and beat this to death as well, carpet, carpet, carpet you will notice a considerable difference in your maneuverability and speed....

If you haven't figured out that testing on carpet is important, just one more post to that effect might convince you. It will be very different!
