Everyone at the expo seemed to compliment the fact that a rookie team got a robot to move, haha. We're still working on last minute things of course, so...
what do you think?

Nice! We're a rookie team too, but we couldn't get our robot to look as awesome as that. Nice job! (OMG - Is that an omni-drive?)

No, actually we have two big wheels separately controlled by different joysticks on our controller.
Yay rookie teams! haha

What do you mean?
Our girl's team's robot looks almost exactly the same, except theirs is twelve sided :D

It looks nice, but what does it do?

I'm guessing it awes you with its greatness, so while everyone is staring at it, they get a ton of laps.
Being serious, it looks to me like a great "run around really fast and get lots of laps" robot.

Then what's with the pole and pneumatic tubing? If it was just supposed to drive around, why would it need pneumatics?
Thats true. I just don't see a claw or grabber...maybe I need glasses.

Haha, yeah...
I'm guessing that they have something that shoots up & knocks the ball off.

It is indeed a lap bot. The pneumatic arm is to knock the balls off in both the begining 15 seconds in a hybrid controled mode, and at the end when other teams try to put theirs back on top. It is controlled via an X-Box 360 controler.

You guys need to change your signatures.. to include "Attending Atlanta". Seriously, quite a nice robot for a rookie team.
Just remember, it's not about the robot. Learn what that means, and you really WILL be going to Atlanta.
Good luck,
Don
Your Robot was working really well after we got all the radio issues Down at Madison figured out. :)
Cool little machine.

Thanks for the encouragement Don. Its kind of shocking that we actually pulled off something that works as well as it does. We barely touched even 1/4 of the parts from the kit. We couldn't figure out what most of the stuff did, let alone how to work it. I personally am very happy with what we have, I just wish I was not graduating this year because I would love to participate next year.
Thanks as well Viper. The little sucker is hard to control with its center-point turning like we designed it. Many on the team were skeptical about having a 2x2 foot robot (length x width). Your teams robot looks quite interesting as well. Your forklift is quite an interesting idea. I would say the other teams forklift type ideas were nice, but I only saw yours working, other then the one with the big yellow claw. Theirs was really nice, but the fact that they have a profesional robot builter helping them, I would have expected as much. Noticed you guys were working on it quite a bit at Madison, so I hope you got it all working in time to be shipped.

I was at the Madison expo too, and heres what I have to say:
1. you guys are in your rookie year?!?! That is an AMAZING bot for a rookie year.
2. Your dell controller is both genius and hilarious. We were tempted to steal it.
3. thank you so much for having a non-rectangular robot. I'm getting quite tired of quadrilaterals.
Looks like it will be going around big obstacles (like robots and trackballs) to get around the field nice and quickly.
I like the octagonal shape. Nice robot.
Care to share how were you able to interface the Xbox 360 controller with the FRC Operator Interface?

An X-Box 360 controller can be interfaced with the OI through the use of the USB dongle sold by IFI.

Edit: Make sure you are using a wired X-box 360 controller.

This is a competitive robot! You have a "gamer" centered control system in a DELL PC case, and a robot that can knock Trackballs off the overpass. Don't worry to much on design since our rookie year, the robot barely moved forward and it looked like a shopping cart (http://www.thepinkteam.org/images/robots/1999.jpg).

Looks like 1024 might have at least two mini bots zipping around it...
any chance of putting a fly swatter on Kila.

I'd have to agree with that. Seeing the Trenton rookie bots and this, this is probably the 2nd best one I've seen so far this year. Awesome job and its so different for a rookie team. Hope to see you guys in Atlanta:)
