No, this isn't next year's Kickoff game show. It's a small game developed by myself and Chris Jelly. The pressure is on as you have 10 seconds to figure out which team is right!

Team data comes straight from The Blue Alliance's newly-announced API.

Remember to post your high scores here!

The game is a bit off...must be a code problem.

I was asked the number of two teams that I'm very familiar with (Hawaiin Kids and R7) and of the 4 choices, none of them were the correct number.

I just had the same problem.

It asked for the number of Team 500, but 500 wasn't a choice. When I picked a choice it said the correct answer was 500.

Otherwise great way to waste time :D

By the way it was definitely a mechanical problem, its never the programmer's fault.

I got the same thing, not having a right choice of numbers for the team name.

I just got Hawaiian Kids come across and 359 was indeed an option.

EDIT: Now I see what people mean. I'm trying to figure it out now.

I also got this issue for some teams that I know.

If everyone can try it again. I think it's fixed.

EDIT: You can't refresh manually. You have to let the timer run out to clear the session.

Pretty cool, how long did it take you?

Yep, it's fixed now.

I think I know how to make this better (hint: it involves more of the API).

It actually took about 30 minutes with everything. The problem people were having should be fixed. Use the skip button instead of refreshing with F5 or your browser button because it screws up how the game tracks the correct answer.

Dave,

You make this so it queries data for a given competition. It would be a good way to students (and mentors for that matter) to learn the teams from a regional/division and therefore be more informed when scouting teams.

thats a good idea the judges will like that

I was thinking the same thing, with the addition bit of having the robot picture of the correct answer shown.

Fun game! I got 20.
It might be better if it only took away one point when you get a wrong guess, instead of taking away all your points.

It seemed like it wasn't completely random. I got the same ones again several times over.

I had an extinct team number come up as one of the choices.

also I think variation is the key, photo question then a location question then a regional question, etc.

also maybe you could include:

past awards,
rookie year,
logo photos,
sponsors,

this is really great and the options are endless.

I am still getting some issues. it just told me that Miscar was team 1219 and team 558 was from Nashville TN

Awesome work. I'm glad to see the API is going to good use! :)

I think I may have fixed more problems. Please respond here if you guys find any more problems. This is what happens when you code late a night ;D

EDIT: I'm considering the other ideas, but I want to make sure all the bugs are out of this first.

Present best: 11.

(Now to find a score that goes to 12...)

I just got that the RoboVikes (or maybe Robotic Vikings) are 580. 580 is Cambell Hall, with no team name to my knowledge; RoboVikes are 701. I got it, but only because the city was listed.

I got to 97, then I accidentally used the 'back' mouse gesture :( . I was going for WildStang, but I guess 97 is good enough. Of course, unless you accidentally use gestures, there isn't really a limit to how high you can go if you use the skip button on teams you don't know. The best I did without the 'skip' button was seven.

I have the skip button because if you get one wrong, you go back to zero. If I kept subtracting one, people would start to get negatives and I don't want to have to deal with negatives :D

EDIT: Also, I made a stats (http://bobcatrobotics.org/teamguess/stats.php) page where you can see the most guessed and you can also enter a team number into the box to see the percentage that people have gotten wrong/right. Chris also made a page that took the stats and ordered them by the percentage people have gotten right: http://bobcatrobotics.org/teamguess/dumpstats.php

It doesn't take into account the number of guesses, but I sent him off an email with a possible answer.

Knowing that the skip button doesn't reset your score makes it almost too easy--I was able to hit 60 in my sleep.

Also, I noted a fair number of repeats along the way--818, 379, and a couple other teams seemed to show up surprisingly often. Seeing as how only a couple of the South Carolina teams have been showing up (281 and occasionally 342), I have to wonder whether there's a bug (or feature, depending on how you look at it) in how it picks the teams to ask.

Sometimes, I even got the same team twice in a row. In particular, I got the BeachBots and SPIKE quite a bit. WildStang was quite often a wrong answer, but never a correct one.

I got 12, I was very happy. I really enjoy this game, and yet it drives me crazy when I don't know some thanks for making this.

Thanks for the response Jack. In response to Billfred's comment; the way it picks is fairly random. It puts every single team into an array. Shuffles the entire array and picks the first four from the array. It's possible that you can get repeats, but if you do, it's PHP's fault. I'll release the code as soon as I clean it up a bit.

I got Wildstang and Synergy Robotics pretty often. Never saw my own team and I was really looking, spent several hours playing with that thing.
