Nuh-uh! Minutes count too! :P
You should've added an "ish."
Predictions:
Hmm. Well, 1885 based our elevator off of the magnificent elevator I saw on your bot in Baltimore last August. So it's either a shooter bot or another one of those elevators since they work so great.
Or you ditched the geared power drive and are now holonomic...

Awesome! We had an excellent time at the Battle O' Balitmore - knowing that we were able to help inspire others is an added bonus. :)

Predictions:
After looking at pictures and video of Team 25's previous robots I am willing to say the following:
They consistently like to use the KISS principle on design and function (which means no holonomic)
Expect to see very few moving parts
25 will incorporate an amazing IR system (especially for use in Hybrid Mode)
I would even dare to say that 25 does not even have a grabber

I'm gonna guess that 25 took their Aim High robot, clicked the enlarge tool, spead it out, croped some parts away to fix their canvas size and gave it an even better resolution.

25 going holonomic? :ahh:
Holonomic? I thought we were holographic. Or was that autonomic? I'm confused....
(naw- can't be autonomic. Otherwise we'd be playing in Vagus- not to be sympathetic)

Well, based off of this picture (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/30580), I predict 25 has a fast elevator arm (1501 comes to my mind, but I think this one will not have elastic bands... I saw another bot like this...), but knowing 25, it will most likely have a (insane) grabber on the front and hurdle from the front. Also, I'm sure they came up with a "magical" hytonobrid mode... Just my thoughts ;)
Perhaps The Office season 3 disc 4 will be done by 9pm...
TheNotoriousKid

hytonobrid mode
FIRST needs to officially use that as the name for hybrid mode.

You mean hyptnotoad mode? (http://kevinrandell.com/HTML/hyptnotoad.htm) Becuase that is what it should be called.

can't wait to see the machine this year.. looks to be another great robot from our friends in North Brunswick.
My guess is there isn't a grabber, just some sort of scooper that loads the shooter, seems most efficient, and 25 is the superconductor of FIRST. They might have changed their drive-train seeing as the game is heavily dependent on moving swiftly and with agility around the track...
ps. as a side note.. Notorious- you might wanna check this part of your signature...

looks good, but why so many times of the same movie shot over and over?
Branden Ghena
27-02-2008, 21:07
Looks nice!
What kind of speed does it have? After it launches the ball, it stops fast enough to start tipping a little.
Nice addition to knock off the ball too. Overall great job this year.
Tottanka
27-02-2008, 21:08
I have to say, that iv'e been waiting for more.
I know i haveseen nothin yet, but please, 25 members, correct me if i'm wrong.
Do you have to push the ball against a wall in order to pick it up?
(that's the only con i see by the way)
pros:
shoots from up high - hard to block.
cool all in 1 action to hurdle.
CAN PLACE BALL ON OVERPASS!!!OMG!!!
Andrew Morris
27-02-2008, 21:08
Nice hurdle on the move and placing the ball.
Can't wait to see it at Atlanta.
=Martin=Taylor=
27-02-2008, 21:10
Is that really how it picks up the ball? By ramming it into the wall? Hmmm.... I'm not sure that's the best idea but we shall see...
As for the hurdling part. AWESOME! :yikes: That's pretty flippin fast!
Hurdling ability: 10+/10. Very fast, very powerful.
Acquiring ability: 7/10. Hoping that the real deal is a little better than the prototype at acquiring the trackball quickly. The scooper arm will help a little.
Placing: 9/10. A little on the slow side apparently.
Overall: Solid 9.5/10, if not 10/10.
It looks awesome guys :) :)
Branden Ghena
27-02-2008, 21:12
It shoots really high too. You generally won't have another trackball on top of the overpass to go over.
Does the robot have to stop while it shoots the ball, or was that just for effect?

I love the hurdling arm and the ball knocker. They look nicely designed and machined as well. Can't wait to see it:D

Nice robot once again!!! We'll have to see how it performs in NJ though. Lol your '06 bot is still my favorite robot ever.
I like the way they pick up the ball. It doesn't require a person to time when to close a gripper. It is also nice and simple not requiring any extra motors. I thought about a grabbing mechanism that would need to use a wall kinda of like theirs, but never really pushed it or just didn't bring it up.

Awesome lifter/launcher. The only thing I question is how well does it pick up? All you showed was the prototype picking. Besides that, another amazing bot. Good luck, we'll be watching.

A lot of the questions are pretty similar, so I'm going to group together the answers.
Regarding obtaining the ball:
Yes, we pick up the ball by pushing it up against an obstacle. The practice segment at the beginning of the video was just sloppy driving . Our drivers have had some practice since then.
Hurdling:
The tipping seen in the video was a result of the driver making a hard stop. Our speed controls have been modified, and the entire launch process is activated by a single button press by our driver. This allows for one fluid motion, as Tottanka mentioned.
Placing the ball:
This is accomplished by regulating the mast speed on our "magic - more magic" dial.
Wayne C.
27-02-2008, 23:04
the repeated movies were practice rounds 1-2-3-4 etc.
yes- we pick up from pushing into an object- and we are always 4-6 ft from something. Don't be disappoiinted because we aren't. There is less to break and I am sure we will see arms and fingers bending all over the place in this game. Also- it allows all our rookie partners to load us from behind and keep going. We practiced with push bots running laps and feeding balls into the quadrant and easily hurdled 5 in 2 minutes. In the practice rounds we were trying to shoot the ball into the practice base or catch it on the bounce. It kind of works- for the off season fun!
In practice we have gotten up to 7 hurdles in a 2 minute round. Obviously that will be less in real life.
Our auto lap is 10 secs and on a good run we make 1.5 laps plus knocking 2 balls off.
This is the simplest robot we have made in a long time- but also one of the most effective. See you all on the floor.

Great hurdling, but I will echo what others have said, I worry about your ability to acquire the trackballs. Someone could pretty easily push the ball out of the way while you're trying to push it into a wall / an object. That being said, the hurdling device is slick and being able to do that without stopping at the overpass will be a huge advantage.

we've played against team 25 in 06,07 and now 08. We've never played with them, only against them during practice, in matches and in the playoffs. I think we are like 0-10.
Yet, they are as far away as two teams can be in the US.
Just kidding.........kind of planned since we went to NJ, partially due to them, and we'll see them in Hawaii too.:D :D :D Maybe with the new algorithm this year, we can be partners for a change AND glad your coming to Hawaii!

Yeah, I really don't see why a lot of people keep bringing up those points. I totally agree that not much if anything at all can go wrong with that 'bot. And I'm sure that 25 already thought about the loading thing when they designed the robot...its 25, i mean come on, I'm pretty sure they don't design robots without thinking lol:P . Also, you guys always have great drivers which is something great about your team. So can't wait :)

Yeah I don't doubt the genius behind the design one bit..
but
I do think there are other genius designs too that may be even more effective ;)
that atonomous sounds great, especially if you can knock off the correct balls in autonomous heh.. just hope nobody gets in your way

one of the nicest features of their machine, besides their lifting mechanism, is that every device on their machine fits within the framework, and thus, doesn't risk getting beat up in pushing matches. Aside from the mechanical failures that we all could encounter, I don't see much happening to their machine out on the field.
Watching them hurdle is truly a sight to behold (we got to see it at their school the day before ship)

But cant that be said with just about any collection device? And since manipulator contact outside the footprint is legal and expected I anticipate seeing all the long fingers and arms getting entangled and bent with ease. Of course if you are wasting time chasing us to keep the ball away then you aren't hurdling either. Believe me- the collection is MUCH easier than our original attempt in the beginning of the video shows (Thats why we put it there)
Time and performance will tell.

Looks great as usual. I hope to see it in the elims Sat after my red eye flight back from San Jose. I'd like to see you get together with Cybersonics again and do the 3peat thing.
PS I know 103 already has the 3peat, but it would be cool to see alliance partners pull it off.

What's the drive train setup?
Obviously, 6 big (custom?) wheels. I was confused as to how many CIM's you have on the drive.
Also, I was wondering what's the top speed - I'm guessing about 10 ft/sec.
Oh yeah, awesome bot. Very impressive control over hurdling. I was also impressed by the diagonal hurdle today at Jersey.
Can't wait to see you guys in Hawaii.

I loved that hurdle. If i remember correctly, it bounced off another robot (us?) and then almost went out of the field. It was spectacular to watch them and 103 hurdle as well.

The drive has 2 CIMS, 2 FP and the 2 Banebots motors- overall six motor drive. The hurler mechanism uses 2 CIMs with Bosch gearboxes. Our floor speed is about 10.6 FPS but we rarely got to go that fast in the traffic.
We had 2 interesting problems today = both of which we hope we have solved for tomorrow. First- the overpass is way below spec and is sagging more each round. At mid spots it is only 76 " from the floor so our plan of clipping the ball ended up with us smashing the clipper arm and needing to make repairs. We have some good ideas for tomorrow.
Our IR system was acting really strange. In the pits we got tremendous response from it- no care in the world. On the field it would cut out and act erratic. It turns out the IR lap counter emitter on the robot was right next to the system receiver and was interfering. With the power to the emitter off it worked beautifully. So we took steps to fix that for the morning too. A trial run worked just right.
So essentially all our "problems" from the day were due to factors from the field and not the robots themselves. Tomorrow will be fun.

that is not good if the middle of the overpass starts or did sag. Hope other teams dont find out the same way you folks did. I saw many robots that try to clip the ball right below the overpass. I would hate to see them try to clip the overpass.:ahh:
I'll be watching tomorrow. Just gotta get up at 5am.
Good luck!
