A few people on my team have iPod touches, so I've been working on a scouting app only for jailbroken iPhones and iPods (I know 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 work, but haven't tested 1.1.3 or 1.1.4).

I think it's ready for a preview, and might be "ready" for this weeks regionals.

To install, add http://vthsrobotics.org/repo/repo.xml to your installer sources, and install iScout under the FIRST category.
You must have the Jiggy Runtime Environment installed (jiggyapp.com)

6395 6396

What things would scouts want in a program like this?
TODO
*All of the team numbers corresponding to regionals
*Numerical data (laps, hurdles, etc.)
*Web data/sync (time permitting)

UPDATES
*Added Non-Functional, Incomplete Competition Section
*Fixed 1.1.3 Bug
*Team Numbers DO NOT correspond to competition yet.

current version .4

Awesome. Make it sync to a central server.

It doesn't appear to work in 1.1.4. I don't know much about how all this stuff works, but I installed it and it didn't show up.

Anyway, my biggest preference would be to have numbers instead of a rating system. Each person rates robots slightly differently and it makes for inconsistencies in the information.
Keep up the great work.

I think I might have fixed that uninstall and then install. I also added the values next to the sliders.

Awesome. Make it sync to a central server.
I'm going to try to get it to actually work first  but that is an idea in my head. Maybe even get data from TBA API

I'd suggest allow fields to numerically track how many laps / hurdles / lines crossed etc. At the end of the day, numerical data is almost as important as the human's opinion.

Someone with 1.1.3/4 try it again.

I will add numerical data soon.

this looks awesome!

Our team actually did the same thing!
Hopefully we can get ours to work just as well!

From what I can see, it works perfectly in 1.1.3 using the Official iPhone Dev Team's jailbreak.

One thing I do find annoying is the list of numbers. Could you possibly make that a list categorized by the name of the team and a button in the top right hand corner to add a new team?

I was planning to have pre-made lists of teams and have the user pick their regional.

I've heard of problems with 1.1.4, and heard of a 1.1.4 compatibility patch which makes installer.app act as a 1.1.3, but since I'm running 1.1.2 I can't really test that. (yes too many versions in one sentence.)

I'm on 1.1.2
hmmm double check that you have it installed, if you do try reinstalling along with the Jiggy IDE and see what happens.

anyone happen to have a spreadsheet with every team going to each regional handy :yikes:

Q. Sheets
03-03-2008, 23:51
blaxbb,

why dont you just get them from the FIRST website?!?

http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc/regionalevents.aspx?id=430

blaxbb
04-03-2008, 00:17
because then I have to type each team number for each regional, thats only a few thousand :yikes:

i'll probably do it anyway but I might as well ask

If there's no premade spreadsheet, I would still at least suggest using TBA over the usfirst.org website. You can access the data more readily, and it comes with the short-form team name rather than the longer one (which is probably the name you want for a mobile scouting application). Sample page:

http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/event.php?eventid=140&mode=teams

It's still a lot of copy-paste, but it's better than typing and it only has to be done once.

Kind of a big update.

*You can now pick your regional, save it, and scout off of a premade list.
*Only week 2 (AR,FLR,KA,VCU,SD) are added right now, I should have all on by tomorrow night 3/5.
*When all of the weeks are added, information about the same team should (theoretically) transfer from week to week.
*The Info fields are not finished, they should also be done tomorrow.
*Pretty much ready for use.

It works on 1.1.4 now.
Just a few more suggestions:
Total Score, Laps, and Hurdles should be integers only. There's no such thing as half a point, unless this program is intended to be used as a quick reference to averages and totals.
There should be a notes field. There's always potential for something to happen that isn't on the sheet.

Awesome work. I'm going to figure out how we can best use it this year.

UPDATE Version 1.0
*All regionals and teams added.
*Info carries over from event to event.
*Extra notes field added.
*You must relaunch the program after you change competitions.
*Ready for competition.

I wasn't planning it as a scoring device but as a database you could reference for more of a general idea/average.

Couldn't get it done in time for week two, maybe in the future.

is there one for the psp???
Not that I know of.

UPDATE Version 1.1
*Organized competition list by week number
*Added Save to Spreadsheet

-Saves as Comma Seperated Value format(only tested in OpenOffice)
-Must be accessed via FTP (can't depend on wireless access at comps anyway)
- A good FTP tutorial (not mine) is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv2XGm6Gn04
-You either need a wifi connection or an ad-hoc connection (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx)(look at "configuring the host computer" section)
-Stored in /Applications/iScout.app/(Regional Name)Scouting.csv
-Seperate Spreadsheet for each event

Just a question, but is the new SDK going to help the dev. of this wonderful piece of software.

heh
perhaps if there wasn't a "nominal fee" only for ipod owners, or if it were available for windows/linux

maybe if someone finds a way to run it, but for now I am less than enthusiastic about it

blaxbb

Is there any chance that an update including the championship division teams will be released. This application was a valuable asset for the team's scouts and we much appreciate it.
