Hmmm that is quite a lot of stuff. Does he mean to keep it in there or is it an accident?

He keeps that stuff in his pockets on purpose, surprisingly we used most of that stuff to work on the robot.

He has big pockets. Someone should invest in research to determine how much more productive this actually makes him (personally i spend too long searching my pockets- i need everything laid out)

Yeah, I bet that he can be a trouble to get through airport security . . .

We should get Jenny Beatty to empty and photograph her vest pockets for us. She wears a fishing vest (I think that is what it is) with tons of pockets to keep all her FIRST stuff organized in during the competitions. It is impressive.

Cargo pants theory:
Y=-(X^2)+4
where +Y is coolness and +X is total containment volume(L). Cargo pants with less than one liter of storage are slightly cool. However, this does not last past 2 liters. I'd judge that the coolness level of your pit crew guy must be 0 or slightly negative. It's okay though. I once put 8 standard size water bottles into my cargo pants.

Actually I had more things in my pocket including:
iPod with headphones
2 Packs of gum
Spare blades to the Leatherman
Spare bits for the Leatherman
Another battery for my cell
and two 2 gb thumb drives

During the competition, I would have had more tools but decided to dump the less important stuff into my backpack:
Sun glasses
Safety goggles
hand rag
and more stuff I can't really remember right now:)

5 knives?
The great thing is that none of the five are superfluous-- each has a useful specialization.

Thats insane.

I well say that when I volunteered at FLL World Festival I was carrying.
>complete FLL judging schedule(5 pages)
>FIRST Bottled water
>three or four video tapes
>keys
>sharpie
>2pens
>jump drive
>FLL pit map
>GA dome map
>A list of noted FLL teams
>entire championship agenda
>video camera(+charger and whatnot)

I have say five knifes....what kinda operation is your pit guy trying to run.

A Leatherman is quite possibly the most useful tool I use the entire build season. I applaud you good sir.

The bigger question is how does he remember to take it all out before it goes in the wash...

no wonder we don't carry purses! we got plenty of room in our pockets!

Tip of the day:
Don't keep the cell phone in the same pocket as your Thumb drives or SD card, or credit cards...

The magnets in the speakers of cell phones are surprisingly strong, and can lead to bad things when put next to anything prone to magnetic interference.

Man, sounds like me, dang near takes me 5 minutes to fit everything into my pockets in the morning. At the current moment, I have:
Pocket knife
pens and pencils
change, a lot of change
cell phone
keys
2 flash drives
80 gb portable hard drive and cable
shooting coin (good luck)
USB serial converter
and the good ol trusty wallet

come competition, I generally have quite a bit more including allen wrenches, screwdrivers, side cuts etc.

I would often carry a leatherman, 7/16+1/2 wrenchs, a set of allens, small batter teaster, a pair of dikes, zip ties, safty credit, and maybe more. It took about five minutes to get every thing out of my pockets.:]

Impressive... but in the two main pockets of my cargo shorts (sadly not insulating enough to wear at this time of year), I can fit my cell phone, iPod with headphones, d20 (yes, I'm a nerd), multi-screwdriver (Team 1302 is AWESOME), a set of seven "magnet rocks" from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, about twenty pencils of varying sharpness, a miniature Sharpie marker, a digital camera, and at least one (possibly two) 5" by 7" Terry Pratchett paperbacks.
And the amazing thing is how little it shows from the outside... when I began to empty them once, a classmate described the experience as similar to a clown car... in my pants. :D

I guess I can't say much. I pick up random scraps of paper from everywhere and scribble notes on them all the time (ending up in a large book by the end of the day, almost everyday)...

Then there's the laptop case...

>1 IBM laptop
>2 power supplies
>4 programming cables
>2 tethers
>Mechanix gloves
>More random scraps of paper
>eyeglass wipes
>Mouse
>multiple flash drives
>GPS antenna (in case I get lost, I suppose)
>Two very special allen wrenches (the tiny ones for some shaft couplers)
>A spare ADXRSxxxEB (exact model varies)
>Small Joke book
>Various trinkets that never left the case (Autonomous switch from the Pioneers, operator badge from 2006 Championships, Arctic Warriors 2006 best autonomous mode team award, various pins).

...

I am a little concerned about the five knives you have in your pocket though... but, whatver trips your trigger.

Haha I was just thinking that...Jenny's vest must hold at least twice the amount of stuff in the picture....though it's quite impressive. I usually have:

Cell Phone
Wallet
Camera
Notepad
Sharpie
Assorted trinkets from teams
