Joe, does this mean you guys will be even better than what we saw in San Diego? Now there's a scary thought.
Here's hoping we get to play more with you than against you ;)

good luck to all of you. Its unfortunate that our regional is the same week as yours.
Hawaii people love Vegas and look for every excuse to be there.
Heck, I own a townhome there too!:D
I think this is the first time that we haven't seen the High Rollers in a competition. I'm sure your the hometown favorite there.:P

We really wanted to go to Hawaii this year....it's too bad that the regionals conflict. Good luck at your regional 359!

Guy,
Always a pleasure to see your team...our improvement works well on our backup bot and we hope will translate into more hurdles per match to help compensate some for the increase in defense we have seen from great teams like yours!

It may be possible for a couple of NERDS (as in me and squirrel) to make it up on Saturday, but we will have to wait and see. It looks like it will be a fun competition, even though there aren't as many famous teams attending as there were last year. Good luck 842! I hope 60 can get their shooter working, too. Then add in 39 and you have a nice fleet of shooter/rear-knockoff robots!
By the way, I hope for the sake of everyone else competing that 39 and 987 don't pair up for the finals... yikes!

Team 2061 would love to be alliance partners with 987 high rollers. I saw the final matches from the san diego regional and I have to say I was amazed, if only there were two more seconds left. I saw the knocker device improvement and thought that was a great idea. I remember from the practice at Cimmeron, before ship date and you guys were having trouble taking the ball off the overpass in hybrid. so I bet the improved device is better. Well Good luck to all teams.

Looks like a shooterfest: 8, 39, 60, 473, 1425... and those are just bots I've seen/read about in the last ten seconds.

Joe,
We love coming down. Great hospitality and lot's of fun. Vegas is always a blast.
We're working on fixing our hurdling device, so hopefully we'll be too busy hurdling to play some D. Regardless of whether or not it works, we hope to be playing D or scoring for you rather than against you :P

We are going to be there! Can't wait! We have a three line autonomous, We have a shooter and ball remover, have greatly improved the performance. We really want to be with 60 and 39. With us three, I don't think that we will be easy to beat at all. Both these teams have inspired us to make modifications that are working well.

Also, anyone running sundial?

Also, anyone running sundial?
It seems that FIRST has been requesting people to not run Sundial due to concerns about field interruption. See: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=724857&postcount=77
Some of the team members and i will be heading down to the Thomas & Mack soon to help set up the event. FIRST only provided a 27ft roll of carpet for the practice field so we are bring a 50ft roll down for all of the teams to use, unfortunatley it is not the same material as the playing field... we figured it would help teams out more to have a 50ft run instead of a 27ft run...
See you all tomorrow!
Good luck to all

If you can get some walls up around that carpet and a center divider, I'm sure many teams will thank you! Sure would have helped us do hybrid programming if we had had it at AZ or LA

The good news is that we were able to find a piece of competition carpet longer than 27ft for practice... but there is not center divider. We just got home from setting up the field... man that's a chore... when we left the FTA guys were doing a systems check on the scoring program and driver station walls. Everything is set up and ready to go tomorrow! This will be an awsome regional...
Oo the competiton carpet is brand new as well we pulled it right out of the plastic...

Awesome, we get to brake in some new carpet :)
Maybe we can set something up as somewhat of a center divider? Two poles with some tape between them or something similar could give a similar effect and help us out.
987HighRoller
27-03-2008, 00:55
There is only a stretch of carpet leading up to an overpass and about six feet of carpet after the overpass. The carpet is only as wide as the half of the overpass, so a robot could only cross the first line while testing hyrbrid.

Hm, I am interested in this one.
It seems that FIRST has been requesting people to not run Sundial due to concerns about field interruption. See: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=724857&postcount=77
Actually that isn't quite true. Sundial can run connected to the Field Management System, in which case it automatically picks up the start of a match. It can also run without being connected, but the match starts and team pairings have to be input manually.
FTAs were asked not to allow Sundial to be connected to the network that runs the FMS. If some team wants to set up their own wireless network for other teams to use and input the match schedules themselves, that is OK.
The concern was for potential interference between Sundial and the FMS and lack of time/resources to verify compatibility. FMS is hard wired so wireless networks nearby should not be an issue.
In Los Angeles Team 1138 was running Sundial on a local wireless network. I had Sundial displayed on an isolated laptop on the Scoring table to help with time management. It helped the Announcer to see how far off we were and to predict an end time to help with other festivities, alliance picking, etc.
I like the idea :D
same here :)
Thank's 39 and 1013 for being great alliance members! We couldnt have done it with out you!

Congrats to the High Rollers. Very, very impressive considering you folks are one of the most generous, humble teams out there. :p
Congrats to 987 and company on winning the event.
Even more congratulations to 987 on winning Chairman's. 987 is one of the fastest rising teams in FIRST. I am extremely happy my team has had the good fortune to get to know them. You can't find a nicer, friendly group of people.
We look forward to seeing you guys in Atlanta (and hopefully playing together for once!).

190 would like to extend a huge congrats to our friends on 987. We're all really proud of you guys, and can't wait to see you in Atlanta!
Thanks for the kind words, Glenn, Cory and Evan. Team 987 is so proud to consider all of you personally and your teams 359, 254 and 190 as our friends. Glenn, congratulations to your team for your well deserved Chairman's
and your hard fought finalist status and for pulling off your first home regional. Cory, congratulations to you guys for winning another regional. Evan, we have kept close tabs on your team's bold design effort and are pulling for you guys to work things out in a successful way. We can't wait to see you guys in Atlanta...looks like a few of us are now staying at the Marquis and we will be sure to look you guys up. All of you, thanks for providing the models of success for us to emulate!
A special thanks to our friends on team 39 and 1013 for helping us all win the LVR. We made a great alliance again and we look forward to seeing you guys in Atlanta. Maybe the rest of the FIRST community will start to realize good things can grow in the desert! On a side note, our team would like to congratulate a great rookie team we mentored (2520, Valley H.S. here in Las Vegas) for their Highest Seeded Rookie Award...what a great group of kids and mentors...watch out for these guys!

Thanks to 842 for selectings us and to 4 for lending us fresh batteries for the elims.

Squirrel and I had the chance to spectate at Las Vegas on Friday, and it was great! It was a very exciting regional with lots of great robots, and the number of shooting bots was overwhelming. I think there were only 3 alliances in the eliminations that didn't have a shooter flinging balls over the overpass.
Congrats to 987 for the undefeated win and the chairmans! Also, major congrats to 39 for your amazingness. You have the most efficient and simple machine this year by far! The match where you hurdled the flat trackball for the whole match was the most awesome thing I've ever seen. You'll do a good job representing AZ in Atlanta.
Also, thanks to 842 for your hospitality! It was fun hanging out with you guys and cheering on your bot. I'm glad you guys finally got it firing consistently enough to become the captain of the 3rd alliance and carry it on to the finals. Fantastic work!

I have contacted Team 2520's mentors and am waiting to hear what they will try to do...Team 987 will try to help them with their efforts should they decide to go to Atlanta...we are proud to have provided some mentorship this rookie season, Gilberto. Keep up the good work and thanks for thinking of others (that's what FIRST is all about, right?).

Not sure what will be available.
But I do know that we had a parent who recorded most of the matches. The practice matches are in SD and the qualifying and finals are in HD. I'll see what he wants to do with them.
Also since he is a part of our team he naturally focused on us more during our matches, but they are still pretty good videos if you want me to pursue getting them released. ;)
