What are your opinions on the best FRC team identity??? There are so many good ones! Pink, Wildstang, Exploding Bacon, Swamp Thing, and, my personal favorite, (I may be a little, err, biased) Team Soup!

I love the Mech Warriors or as most teams call us at competitions "Those Guys in the Skirts".
I'd have to say team 1717 has one of the best identities on the West Coast. Black jumpsuits with white lettering, a black and white robot. Team name? D'Penguineers. Their team dance is...well...you have to see it.
Also well known on the West Coast are: 1538 (Holy Cows, black and white with cow spots on the robot), 968 (RAWC, red and black), 696 (Circuit Breakers, neon green and neon pink), 980 (Thunderbots, black and yellow), and 330 (Beach'Bots, blue and yellow). 254 (Cheesy Poofs, blue and black with the occasional red accent) and 100 (ORANGE and black) are the best known in Northern California.
Hmm... Is it a coincidence that the best-known teams are also really good on and off the field?
TorBots... just kidding.
I'd have to say 1515 with their fuzzy orange hats, 1266 (the red and black Devil Duckies), and 233 (the Pink Team), too.

Team 1114, Simbiotics has a pretty epic reputation. Everyone's heard about their performance at Waterloo. Amazing autonomous and great scoring. They are also dominant in FTC. Winners this year and i believe they were national champions last year.

No 1114 were not national champions but they are looking for that this year... and probably will get it

I assume we are talking about marketing here, right? The team's look and feel? How distinctive they are?
Team 100 -- Their weird orange hats and animal-faced robot sure stand out.
Team Pink -- need anyone say more?
Exploding Bacon -- the number one "I wish I'd thought of that" name
Top Gun -- while never winning a regional, their camouflaged bumpers and pits, aviator shades, and snappy salutes carry their theme every year. They lost a point this year for not naming their robot after a character in the movie, though. (Disclaimer -- my old FRC team.)
My personal favorite is the Scalawags, Team 1359. Arrrrr!
No 1114 were not national champions but they are looking for that this year... and probably will get itFTC Champions, not FRC. They were looking for Champion (FRC) last year, but a bad match (not by their robot, not by any means) took them out in divisional semis. We shall see...

64, the Gila Monsters were pretty noticeable back when they were around. HOT (67) is also pretty hard to miss, and the ThunderChickens (217) stand out quite a bit too... one of the most awesome logos of any FIRST team (the motto is the best part though).

Well lets see:
Wildstang - can't miss those shirts and you always know who they are
Pink - only 1 team can pull this off and i don't care who you are. Think Pink will always be THE PINK TEAM.
Simbots - the most professional looking team in FIRST.

Only because there were 30 of us chanting G-O-O-D M-O-R-N-I-N-G good morning! hey hey good morning!
But the first team to come to my mind was the thunderchickens, "Engineering new ways to cross the road." Unfortunetly I have not yet seen a chicken mascot at a competition  I love the little ones they hand out though.

The number of a team is what really strikes me as the best way to identify a team.
Whenever I see numbers like 191, 365 and 71 I think nothing of FIRST. Most all numbers that I see that are connected highly to teams get me thinking of FIRST.
I get a chuckle sometimes at this too...I was watching Transformers last night and the 217 at the end of the guy's account name got me thinking FIRST.
=Martin=Taylor=
26-03-2008, 22:29
Our team and our robots are not well known outside of our area. But our mascot (IMO) is by far one of the best-known and most recognizable mascots in FIRST.
People often come to our pits at the championship asking where "the hat" is and if they can get a picture with it.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2259/2364783569_f57b061e3e_o.jpg
It has made repeated appearances in FIRST's videos.

here are mine
71- probably the most dominating team in FIRST history, they have earned the phrase "never bet against the beast"
233- this PINK team stands out everywhere they go, and they have that signature arm...
1114 - The most dominating team in recent history for FIRST, they are probally the image of FIRST in Canada already. as looking forward said they are the ONLY team to win 4 banners in a year. and are attempting to DO IT AGAIN. with such a famous person in the FIRST community as Karthik Kanagasabopathy, this team is in my books, the team that i think of when i think of FIRST
(i've noticed a lot of team bias in this thread as well)

Y'all might look at me funny for this, but team 180: S.P.A.M. Even if their robot isn't the exact same shade of blue and red as their shirts and capes, there is something about an entire section of the Colonial Center going "S-P-A-M! SPAM! SPAM! SPAM!" that definitely turns heads! (Heck, my first FRC regional was five years ago now, and there are two chants that I still remember from it: theirs and ComBBAT's*.)
For the total package, though, I've long been fond of the way 1902 manages to tie together everything. From the shirts to the robot to the website to the pit, they're always able to tie it all together. Every season, they refine it just a bit--and every season, I'm stuck adding another item to my Things I Should Show The Team list. Gee, thanks 1902! :P
*On that subject, WHO DAT BBAT?
ha everyone knows the devil duckies!! they were fun to be around in San Diego!!!!

Oink, Oink, Boom. Need I say more?
Of course I've got a lot of favorites though. Exploding Bacon, Pink team, Hot, the Bees, Desperate Penguins, and the Thunderchickens are some of my top favorites. As I said to my team mate when we walked into the Detroit Regional
"You know, a robotics regional is the only place where you can walk in and see two people in chicken suits and not be confused."
But I also love Rush. They have one of the most professional identities of any FIRST team I've seen, and seeing them work is like seeing a well oiled machine. They get the job done and they do it professionally.

Team 100 is probably the best, everyone remembers the hats!
I've only ever been to SVR (and Cal Games), and all I can say is: 100, 100, 100. Instantly recognizable, anywhere.
Second place? 692 (Fembots), although they change slightly year-to-year.
i was very impressed the Discobots for first year
Perhaps it's the proud alum in me, but I enjoy the PurdueFIRST teams, especially 461. Clean, sleek design + enthusiastic team mebers = memorable identity. My first regional, I caught myself doing the "Boiler up!" cheer without even realizing we were competing against them at the time. I got some strange looks. At this year's BMR, 45 (who are no slouches themselves, and honestly I'm quite surprised their name hasn't come up yet) started the Boiler Up chant many times.
Let's all go nuts!
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Buzz with their big yellow smiley faces!
:)
At the Chesapeake Regional this year, 88 had to be the most visible.

A few years back in Atlanta, I was on an escalator behind a team that stood out in the manner in which they conducted themselves and in how they looked. It was FRC 234. They had 'professional' written all over them.
Another time, I was looking at the photos in the Inspirational Photos thread here in CD and a photo jumped out at me. It showed teamwork and professionalism blended together. That was FRC 45.
I have come to know members of both teams and what I saw in Atlanta and in a photo were exactly who they are. Incredible.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Buzz with their big yellow smiley faces!
And who can miss their annoying beeping cart.
Me, I prefer a nice, simple, dignified presence. Vae Victis, with our legionnaire banner and subtle logo, is, I think, a model for all teams who don't want to go over the top.
Also, we're probably the only team who gets asked whether we are all communists. Third year running!

Don't sell yourselves short. Id have to say RUSH is one of the most dynamic teams out there. I mean remember Captain RUSH last year? RUSH has a passion for FIRST that I haven't felt in most other teams.
Other than my alma mater I have to say PINK and Wildstang are two of the most recognizable teams in FRC.

I have to agree with many that Team 100 is pretty distinctive. The HAT is cool and a great MASCOT....
Orange and Black are very distinctive colors.
I also have to agree that Cyber Blue is a very professional looking team.

There are some teams that i noticed right away back when i was on my team. Here they are:
111-the tye dye...come on
217- they are chickens
179- swamthing. the bright green
191- the red tye dye i can recognize anywere
68- those jerseys
188- the hockey jerseys
1241- the orange hats
57- the leopard print
64(when they were still a team)- the giant gila monster
233- they are pink come on

You mean there is a question about this?
It's MOE all the way, even if their robot is bad or they have a small team there, the jersey's, robot, pit, and giveaways ALWAYS stick out. The MOE tower is my point of reference at Championship in the pits.
It's over, no questions asked.

Thank you Jane! We work hard to ensure our students ALWAYS act in a respectful, professional, and well mannered way both at events and in life. Our school, sponsors, and mentors spend a lot of time, money, and put their reputation on the line to be associated with Cyber Blue 234 so we mandate that this be followed. Our students become better people as a result of this.
Our 2008 team motto on our shirts is: Commitment to Excellence.

We made "The Hat (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=725552&postcount=20)" ourselves out of felt and black mesh. Then again, it wasn't very hard. Probably even easier than making clothes; basically a big bag. lol
It also has a CPU fan powered by RC car batteries to keep the mascot cool.
In that picture you can also see team 973's mascot, the Greyhound, which I believe is made from diamond-plate aluminum duct-taped together. Pretty cool looking, but a little uncomfortable.

From my experience, the teams that have stood out the most are 365, 67, 34, and 384. 365 is just green. As for 67, their robot and team stood out to me in 2005, my rookie year. 34 had a great team in the stands at Palmetto last year. 384 was classy back when they had them collared shirts and very ethusiastic cheering squad and still are outstandish at competitions.

I had sooooo much fun at UCF. I sat with my Mom and Dad between Pink and MARS. It don't get better than that. (sic)
There are alot of teams that are known well, but for me those I recognize from sight/color (not robot performance or community efforts) are:
111 Wildstang - tie-dye everything, you just can't miss it
624 CRyptonite - the "anti-superman" in team and name, I love there capes and they are one of my personal favorites to see
1902 Exploding Bacon - when your mascot explodes, no one forgets you
1266 Devil Duckies - the adopt a ducky program was brilliant, and I never understood, chinese take out boxes!?
233 Pink - the name says it all

624 CRyptonite - the "anti-superman" in team and name, I love there capes and they are one of my personal favorites to see
More than the capes, 624 CRyptonite ALWAYS has the most RIDICULOUS hair at LSR. each team member has a unique and equally goofy/cool molded green hairdo, from simple spikes to giant coils and one i can only describe as a satellite dish!
They looked so good at LSR this year. drive team: suits and a cape, pit crew:black jumpsuits. and the rest of the team wearing awesome t shirts. Their robot looked as good as the rest of their team, sporting a slick chassis and magnificent claw.
my ups are to 624 for best team image

27-03-2008, 22:30
CRyptonite never fails to have the wackiest hair at LSR. Sometimes you can tell when they're coming around the corner because you see a bright green spike of hair first! Combined with their capes, they look like green supermen who had very...creative barbers. Props to team 624 for managing to shock us with their new hair designs yearly.

Wildstang immediately lept to mind, followed closely by 233 and 1902.

I'd rather not add any repeats from others. I notice that many of those mentioned have had an incredibly consistent image over the years, which adds greatly to their prominence on this list. I think I recognize nearly all of the teams mentioned here and they are all definitely have great identities.
In the West Michigan Area, I think the 288 RoboDAWGS deserve recognition from someone outside the team. Not only is their nine year old logo easily recognizable, they've carried the image through the robot design and pit displays. The team seems to make new friendships at whatever event they attend. Their first imagery award (St. Louis 2008) was long overdue. Other WM teams that I think almost anyone can recognize easily at any distance are 107 - The Maroon Platoon of Team ROBOTICS and 141 - The Wobots. There are also several newer teams in the area who seem to be working hard to refine and establish a team identity. Some of them will be making this list in a few years.

I'm going to have to say MOE or Pink for most recognizable in appearance, and Exploding Bacon for most recognizable team cheer.
How about 910, with our silver hair?
I love your silver hair; it's pretty hard to miss it when looking down from the stands :D
Also really noticable was 217; bright green really stands out...unlike us (1189)...I like our logo and what it stands for, but black shirts really blend in...or are we noticable?
1189- I really think you guys have a great logo. As far as standing out, the black blends right in. Not sure what to do about that.
503-Frog Force used to be a clear standout, but since they have switched to black tees with their logo, they disappear too.
Our yellow stands out pretty good, but it often gets confused with RUSH (the camera-man at GLR kept sweeping over to Rush after our victories).
As far as stan-outs, Exploding Bacon. My wife can only name 2 teams and exploding Bacon is one of them.
Kilobytes have one of the most stand out machines. They really should be giving away sunglasses so people can look at that Neon Green Machine. Maybe we will see it on Einstein.

my favorite team identity is the F.E.D.S. team 201 i just love the name
MOE is definitely the most recognizable. You can spot them in distant photos and can't miss them anywhere they travel.
There is definitely science behind this as well.
You may have noticed that in recent years emergency signs and firetrucks have moved towards this color.
That shade of green is the wavelength that your eye is most sensitive too.
It actually forces people to take notice.
Way to go MOE for putting science behind your team image.

I'd say my two favorites are 233 and 33; both teams have great identities seamlessly integrated into their robot/team without detracting from anything else. A lot of teams seem to push their identity too much and it detracts from getting other things done.
1. Wildstang
Not only do they stand out with the trademark tiedie, but their actions expemplify FIRST in every way. They have a robot that consistently performs well and they put Illinois on the FIRST map.
2. Exploding Bacon
Great robots, great team members, and a great chant. They are probably the most fun to cheer for and definitely bring a lot of fun to the competition. I love the way they design their robots as well.
3. Pink
It helps when you build a the same drive and arm every year :p . They aren't the loudest team, but everyone talks about them and even out here in the boondocks of Wisconsin, people know who they are. They are the pink team.

I think team 2194 had the best identity by far. Their team name was "Fondy Fire" and everybody wore bright red, flame covered tee shirts. Their pit and robot were flame covered as well. A couple team members even wore hats that looked like a campfire!!

Fondy Fire 2194 and their robots flame side panels. And recently they give out flash lights, pens, and more with their id on them.
yesterday my sister and I made some new t-shirts for our two drive teams including the college coach. They are very cool and quite catchy if I say so myself. Be sure to check them out in Atlanta team 171.
well i had to say
-team otto, at peachtree every1 loved the huge smiley face...
- team 1114 well every1 knows them they raced there way into the FIRST history books.

Ask the teams that went to Florida and Colorado who was the team in the bright orange pants, and they will know who to say!

These are my favorites and the ones I'm always able to remember for some reason....
1730 was really great in Milwaukee! (we were in #1 alliance together)
330 Beach bots (Awesome, and unique in Atlanta last year!)
1266 Devil Duckies (I <3 your ducks! :P)
1114 Simbots (I have a friend on the team ^_^ and I think they might like my cookies...)
MOE (Just amazing! and I love the green)
PINK (Again love the color, and you really get your name out there!)

For fun factor I'll have to say MOE. They're fun, they've got the right spirit, and they always coordinate :).
I think the most professional team for team identity I saw is team 103.
some others I'll always remember are 88 and 716. I guess I'm just a tie-dye fan at heart.

Red and white and red and white and red and white but they are hard to find. NOT!!!! One of the most energetic teams in FIRST from a place call Whitby. Yep it's hard to find but if you look you will find them.

I thought the IRS team at Championships was great. They all wore purple button downs with bright yellow ties. Very accountant but with a twist.

That's a good list, but I would add Wildstang to it.

That's team 1318 from Issaquah, WA :) They'll be happy to hear that they got noticed, I bet.

My vote is Teams that are in bright colors, or have Giant Numbers on their shirts.
25 also with their yellow Hawaiian Shirts stand out very well
