Wandering around looking at various teams' autonomous modes got me thinking- what has been the best utilization of the 15 second hybrid period this year?

My coding team and I (me and one other person, really) were disappointed that our team really wanted nothing more than IR control over the bot in autonomous mode, so we have very little true autonomy. The only real thing the bot does on its own is moving the lift up to the right height to possibly knock a ball down on our way under.

My team is attending only one regional (Minnesota), and a large number dont have much autonomy, the majority of those that do something only cross one line. There are a few 'bots that can get across three lines, with one (possibly two or three) being able to knock a ball down consistently. There are some (like my team) that can knock a ball down, it just has to be under the right circumstances.

So what have you guys seen? How does your team compare to others?

That's kind of ironic. Our programming team (which I am on) spent about half the build season making the IR commands work, yet after two entire regionals, the only IR command we ever used was "stop".

We also had a small left turn, small right turn, and left or right lane change, but we never needed to use them. In fact, we still don't know if they even work.

The good news is, we were pretty excited when our robot crossed four lines three times at Chesapeake - without any input from the robocoach.

Our robot is mainly run by programming in Hybrid. We generally get three lines, at the competitions weve been at it really helped. We put little time into our IR and have gotten great success from it. We have commands for the elevator and to start and stop. Being the robocoach I know that the stop command is very important in Hybrid. Won like 3-4 matches because I stopped the robot from getting penalties. Also, if you can get the ball down using the IR board I would suggest doing, not only is it an essential part to winning a match it also makes your robocoach have something to do. Assuming that your robocoach doesn't literally drive the robot.

The best hybrid/autonomous period i have seen all here was 1114 who knocks down the 2 balls and cross 5-6 lines

Our Hybrid mode was a project that my programming team (And when I say programming team, I mean me and a mentor) worked on for about 4 weeks. We have three different modes- slap mode, rabbit mode, and rabbit-slap mode. In slap mode, we knocked down a ball and crossed two lines. In rabbit mode, we crossed two lines. In rabbit-slap, we theoretically would cross two lines and knock down the ball on the other side. We used slap mostly, rabbit occasionally, and rabbit-slap never. Our Hybrid mode won the Rockwell Automation Innovation in Control Award, which was basically the happiest moment of my FIRST career. MOE 365 could cross four lines autonomously, and that was my favorite autonomous.

The best auto/hybrid mode has to be 70 at GLR on friday.
2 balls and 4 lines 2 times in a row.

We've been working on getting the robot to make a lap... at most we've gotten four lines (at the LA Regional). We haven't used the IR board in competition yet... we're still working on that.

From what i've seen, most robots just try to make one or two lines - a few get three or four lines and/or a ball knocked off.

that martian team from GLR has an autonomus that got 2 balls and 4 lines i think it was... it sucked to be on the other team.
