Hey guys, I was just wondering if there were any robotics competitions open to post highschool contestants, particularly something low budget, that a person could say, buil the machine in the basement and then go and compete, I was thinking post highschool FTC-esc type stuff. But i dont know, that could not exist, jsut looking for an open door here.

Check the off-season competition (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=20) for FRC-related events .. also check http://www.robotevents.com/ for listings of Vex, FRC, FTC, FLL, BEST, etc. events.

It's pretty far from New Jersey, but team 842 puts on the National Underwater Robot Competition in June, and it's open to just about any kind of team.

Check to see if there is a robotics club in your area. They will likely host or attend competitions for mini-sumo, fire-fighting robots and many other competitions that are quite inexpensive (relative to FRC, or even FTC) to enter. The Western Canadian Robot Games, (http://www.robotgames.com/) is one example of such a group. I know there are also active robotics clubs in Vancouver, Portland and Seattle, so google up one close to home and drop by a meeting.
