One more day of school and then its on the plane for 14 hours! BTW, we are being filmed by an independent film company, Fleur De Lis films, for a documentary on the whole experience of FIRST. Its called "the superbowl of smarts". We are one of three teams they've been following this whole year. They've followed us home to interview the families and followed us in SVR with its controversial ending and in Honolulu. There's a chance that teams we partner with, and against, will end up in the final cut which they hope to release at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009. Its been an awesome privilege to have this past year documented by a professional crew. You can catch a preview of their video from last year at: http://www.fleurdelisfilms.com/html/Welcome.html
I can't wait to see the final cut! Archimedes teams will be part of the final story so be prepared! Aloha

Kim Gibbs, the director and producer of the film, has worked at many of the regional and championship competitions over the past five years, and has seen a lot of the program from the event management side of things. Like many of us, she got bit by the "FIRST bug" at her very first FIRST event, has been working to get this film made to tell the world more about FIRST ever since. The film is a documentary of the experiences that the teams actually go through as they design and build their robots, compete, and come together as teams. To do this, the film crews are following Team 1868 (Space Cookies (http://www.fleurdelisfilms.com/html/SpaceCookies.html) - Newton Division), Team 1583 (Rambotics (http://www.ridgeviewacademy.com/rva/cwp/view.asp?A=3&Q=274676) - not attending Championship) and Team 2024 (Kekoa E Haaheo (http://www.fleurdelisfilms.com/html/KekoaEHaaheo.html) - Archimedes Division).

Most already know about the current PBS show that is also being filmed by Story House Productions (http://www.storyhousepro.com/) this year. The "Superbowl OF Smarts (http://www.fleurdelisfilms.com/html/Welcome.html)" film should be a very complimentary piece that is going after a different audience. The PBS piece will be shown exclusively on PBS broadcast television, and the "Superbowl Of Smarts" film is targeted at theatrical release, to be shown at independent movie theatres and film festivals. Together they will reach a broader audience than either effort would alone, and help tell the "FIRST story" to a much larger portion of the public.

Team 116 and NASA are funding a bit chunk of the production as part of our outreach efforts. Based on some of the B-roll footage and very early cuts that I have seen so far, the film will do a lot to show off the talents and skills of all the participating teams. But more important, it should be a great tool to have when we are all trying to answer the question "so what is FIRST all about, anyway?"

Uberbots were a hair away from Einstin last year so they can taste it and High Rollers and RUSh both Have Championship credentials.

Man, what a hair that was. What was it (barring the DQ)... 2 points?
:(

You guys definitely deserved to get to einstein more than us though... just look what happened (=. And 1592's arm rested on our camera last year, which broke our autonomous.

W00t. Today was my last day of school. Now I just have to sit here til around four when my dad gets here to get the stuff we are taking down. I am really pretty excited for Atlanta. Our division this year seems like it has some of the coolest people in FIRST. I had two extra team shirts but two people claimed them already.

Thanks for the added info Dave! I forgot to mention the NASA support given to the film. I didn't know it involved your team as well - Mahalo! Kim, Ashley and the whole crew are great people who are dedicating so much of their lives to get this whole experience on film. Again, we feel honored to be selected as one of the three they're following. BTW, Kekoa O' Haaheo (or "Warrior Pride" as translated from Hawaiian into English) is team 2024 not 1583 as mentioned in Dave's post. I honestly believe they could have followed any three teams because everyone involved has a story to tell that is just as interesting as the next. Our story is we basically build our robot in the backyard shop of our one and only engineer mentor with a band saw and drill press on an Island in the middle of the Pacific with no industrial base. We only got our first Home Depot two years ago....man did it change our lives! In spite of the meager surroundings we've had great success on and, more importantly to me, off the field. Aloha

Yeah I was watching the ones youtube and they look amazing, I had to scout 554 and they had a suction system that didn't work as planned. 1771's suction system is different from any I have seen and you can clearly see why they are so good.

It's probably how they have a custom designed sucking system

In a side note, if anyone has any little creatures from their team we may put them on our robot, if you look at our robot in our pit you will see little things like a chicken from 217 and a shark (forget where it came from) on our robot. You will need to contact me in order to do this though.

It definitely has a lot to do with our custom suction device. The funnel is 21" diameter and we use a modified shop vac impeller assembly run off of 2 fisher price motors. We hold the ball with over 400lb of force so there is no way we're ever losing a ball from our grasp.

We've used our IR at two separate regionals and we've yet to have a definite interference problem. What do you use as a signaling device? We just use a standard Zenith TV remote.

What happened at GLR with us and 33 is that the robocoaches stand at different spots, one next to the robot one away, and it worked then.

Also at BMR people were using IR like crazy and there was no meshing of the commands. You will probally be safe at Atlanta, if you aren't make a different remote or reprogram it. Seriously it takes like 5 min. to do it.

P.S. I also like the word kluged, I'm gonna start using it

Have we lost 2668? They're no longer listed as registered for Atlanta on FIRST's site... nor in our division...

It looks like it doesn't it :( . Hopefully it's an error

And also whoever had the 300th post on this thread totally should have yelled out "THIS IS SPARTA!!!", it would have been so cool. Sadly they did not :(

And we want to show the members of the CD community our defensive playing style:

http://s255.photobucket.com/albums/hh156/feds201/2008%20Great%20Lakes%20Regional/?action=view&current=Match53defendingagainst217.flv

This was against 217 on their quest for their 3rd championship (they didn't get it). We played super defense to take the match with our future alliance partner 33.

If any girls out there want to support 816 you can get your nails painted in either blue or orange, or both. You will see my mom and dad wearing. Yes, my dad has gone over the edge. But yeah if you want to get them dont just go to the stands and ask for Mrs Mccanney or Dannys mom. Or if there are any guys out there who want it.(You never know.)

1771 got 7 hurdles in one match?! jeez...
2 laps in hybrid seems a bit far-fetched though... ive only seen one team do that in a practice video, and it maxed out at 24fps.

Well, this is only practice, in the actual match we'll be lucky to get a lap...but our programmers have recently hit overdrive and I think we'll be able to get a great hybrid in time for world. We should be able to get both balls off along with our lap...but we'll see.

Thanks, yeah we were picked for our defensive skills with 33 and 107, and we could have made it further if we (in specific 107) didn't have mechanical problems... But we all had fun though.

They seamed frustrated, but when they talked to us (we had pits right next to them) they were glad they lost to that and not something simple. I wish we could be on an alliance with them though, it would rock. Meeting them in einstien would be cooler though...

Yes in one match during the eliminations we had 7 hurdles although we ended up losing because our alliance partners racked up so many penalties so it was slightly bittersweet.

Also that was with us taking about 15 to 20 seconds to remove the trackballs which now we can remove the trackballs on the fly.

Our shooter is also even stronger now meaning shooting from farther and across the lane divider.

HAHAHA (it is a real story)

someone--PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE tell me where exploding bacon got their name.

The true (and kinda boring) story is that during our first meeting the kids were playing around with a random name generator and the name Exploding Bacon came up. We actually voted to become Organized Chaos. At the next meeting one of the mentors came in with the logo design and mentioned that if we had become Exploding Bacon we could have used this logo. A vote was immediatly taken to change the name and we have been Bacon ever since.

The cheer came from MikeTWalker. The night before our first regional ever we were going over things and he came up with it....we ran with it. The coolest thing I ever heard was when we won Rookie All star that year to hear the whole arena screaming OINK OINK BOOM as we went down to get our award. With teams like PINK, SPAM, MARS and Sigma Cats in the house...you know it was loud.

Ok--it was a good story-------not as exciting or disgusting as the exploded sheep in the FarmHouse frat house, but still good.

The first time I heard "oink oink boom" I couldn't understand it, the kids with me explained the correlation between the cheer and the teams name. Then I saw a button--and I "got it".

Most original team name/ team cheer yet.

In response to the post count.

I did a little checking, and of the past 2 years (the only years i could find info on all 4 divisions) the division with the highest post count won one year (2007) and was a finalist (2006)

I wonder why that is? maybe initial communication is the key to sucess?

Probably, it does sound like a good reason. Are we the underdog division right now? I know that we all have a shot, but knowing that other people think we don't makes it all the sweeter taking home the win ^_^

sdcantrell56
15-04-2008, 16:05
I don't think we're the complete underdog but we are definitely not predicted to win. I think whatever one 1114 and 217 is in is predicted to win. I think our division can definitely hang with them and even beat them. It would just take some strong strategy and defense.

We have plenty of defense and strategy in our division. Its how we beat some great teams down in Chesapeake and made it to the top in Trenton to face 103 and 25. I think mort's robot this year can help make a great alliance in this division.

It would just take some strong strategy and defense.

Remember, while there are highly skilled teams and well designed robots out there that should not be underestimated, no team is invincible. If there are any specific robots which appear to be more of a challenge than others to you guys, check the blue alliance and watch videos of their robot running in competition. Watching game tapes DEFINITELY helps... you can discover all kinds of little things that you can use to improve your differential score.

For instance... our gripper used to be slow on the up/down, so, if you could keep the ball rolling we'd have to follow it for a while. Now, it takes about 0.75sec for the ball to go from the pickup to the shoot position.

...On that note, watching game tapes of yourselves can help you identify critical points of your own gameplay you can improve on or help to minimize the chances of another team capitalizing on a specific characteristic of your robot to their advantage.

Go Teams!

Yeah, we watched most of our tapes over an over again to see how we can be better. Also good scouters can be a BIG help.

The point of my post was not to say that I don't think that they can't be beaten it was just to answer the question of are we thought of as the underdog division.

I personally think we have good enough robots to easily beat a hypothetical 1114/217 alliance if we develop and follow a good strategy that employs a lot of defense and we hurdle like mad. I watched one of the thunderchickens matches where they had defense played on them and they did not score many hurdles at all. They are without a doubt beatable. 1114 is the same way. If you keep the balls away from them obviously they can't score that many points.

I definitely feel that Archimedes can take the championship and I really hope 1771 can be a part of bringing home the world championship. We have made the necessary improvements to our robot to make it easily competitive with the best in the world.

We're the same way. We're a good hurdler but our biggest issue is keeping the ball. If our pressure is too low or too high we will not be able to pick it up and hold it securely. And if we are even tapped wrong we can drop the ball. Luckily I've designed and built something to fix this ;)

I know 2 offensive robots and a defensive robot is the perfect alliance. But how that alliance is made up is nomans knowledge, but I can tell you that's the einstien winner's alliance makeup.

I personnaly think that 2 offensive bots and a (Jack of all trade) bots will be best. I.E. while the offensive bots hurdle they run laps and play D but if the offensive bot becomes immobile for any reason (Mech Problems, Defense.....) then the 3rd bot picks up the slack. I know there will be many, many decent hurdlers left after the first round picks and I wouldn't hesitate to pick on up for a 2nd pick if I were picking.

Hehe doesn't hurt to have 33 on your team either. The Killer Bees are one of my top 5 this year, but that was some great defensive play by your part.

sdcantrell56
15-04-2008, 16:44
Luckily for us holding the ball is one of our strong points. There is no way for us to lose the ball after we acquire it since we're holding it with over 400lbs of suction force.

Our main weakness was the time it took us to get the balls off the overpass. Before we had to use our arm which took around 10 seconds per ball and put us in danger of getting stuck on the overpass but know we have built a device that allows us to remove the ball just by driving under the overpass.

I do think the winning alliance will probably be 2 offensive and 1 defensive bot however I think the defensive bot will have to be able to hurdle in case one of the offensive bots breaks in the eliminations.

That's like this years story for my team. The first regional we were an offensive robot, and picked as one too. When we got to GLR we took a more defensive stance and we got picked as a defensive robot that can also hurdle if it has to and knock balls down. We didn't win because of a mechanical problem that left us weak. But we were still amazing out there, but 217 was better (before they broke down)...

Hehe doesn't hurt to have 33 on your team either. The Killer Bees are one of my top 5 this year, but that was some great defensive play by your part.

Yeah 33 is a really cool team that has an amazing robot. To honor them I will be wearing their little antenna on my glasses at Atlanta. They were one of the best there obviously, while we were ranked 43rd (higher possibly, we were there at one point) coming into the alliance selections (defense does not always make a good offense if everyone is playing it...)

After day 1 of Atlanta I myself have made some observations of some specific teams. These are not for the FEDS as a team, just Alex Dinsmoor.

987 - I counted 32 pts. in Hybrid and 5 hurdles and one place, that's some major pointage.

1024 - You are getting better (you were already great), your throwing is really cool

1124 - I see how you are 14-0, your an amazing robot that picks up the ball easily

27 - You guys were simply amazing, one of the best in our division, your picking up mechanism is really cool and reliable, and you throw elegantly

365 - You pick it up great and throw it great, what else can I say.

And the greatest robot of them all is the microbots of team 2024, they are so small and 1st place winners! I will post photos later (when I get my camera), they are the greatest robot I have ever seen.

Really awesome FIRST day for the World Championships everyone!

By now, it seems most people have shaken off most of their robot's jet lag. Also, I like all the cool new additions to robots I've seen. Thanks everybody for making Archemedes awesome to take a walk around in (my sore ankles can attest to that :] ).

At 1024, we were excited to see our robot use it's brand new hybrid ball knock-off code for the very first time, especially since many of the distances and other settings were educated guesses! :ahh:

Our robot is ready to play again, and we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow! GO TEAMS!

Hey q, what is that display on the back of your robot do? It's always flashing random numbers...

They aren't random... though I must admit at present one of the segments finally quit on it, if I have time I'll look into why.

Anyhow, during autonomous mode it reads out the bearing of the robot relative to it's start in tenths of a degree. In the teleoperated mode it reads out the speed of the robot in ft/sec. Remember there is a decimel point in the middle, so if the display says "12.75" it means 12.75ft/sec.

Cool, I wish we had one of those! So wait, does it measure of how far you've gone...

I don't want to cluter up this thread too much, so if you have any further questions just come by tomorrow.

Anyways, the display itself is just a display. I have four shift registers in series to run the 32 leds that make up the display... it doesn't actually measure anything itself... the only knowledge it has is that it takes a serial line of data and uses that to figure the state of the 32 output lines.

We can show data for any of the sensors on the robot using buttons on the OI panel, though we almost never do that on the field, it's more of a pit debug thing. Yes, it can show the counts on either encoder among other things.

Thanks for your curiosity! :)

See you tomorrow,

Well, I guess we all expected the level of play to kick up a notch or two at the Championship.

I just noticed Q-20 on Archimedes, in which 71/228/190 put up 100 points, ... AND LOST to 525/2472/401!

... and over on Newton, Q-16 had 968/20/692 beating 329/39/175, 120-114. Lots of great hurdlers down in ATL.

So I'm on the phone with my mother, who is at home in ** New Jersey **, explaining what an awesome alliance this is and I tell her, "if you really loved me, you'd record the match on your phone and send it to me."

So picture this: My mother (AJ's GRANDMOTHER), holding up her cell phone to her computer monitor recording the match to send to me. Now she's watched both SVR and HAWAII Reginal so she knows the game and she's cheering on 2024, and really gets into it and drops the phone and LOOSES the flix!

Competition has really increased for sure. There are definitely some great robots here.

We were just talking about alliance picking during the car ride back to the house and came up with this epiphany. If the picking team already has a great hybrid ( 4+ lines and both balls every time) what good does it do to pick another robot with the same great autonomous capability. All that can come out of both teams having that autonomous is confusion and possibly collisions.

So say the picking team is a decent or good shooter and has the "great" hybrid would it not be the most beneficial to pick an excellent pure shooter that has a lesser hybrid (2-4 lines and no balls)? With this pairing you would get the awesome hybrid points (50+) per match without the risk of collisions and such. Also by picking the great shooter then the amount of hurdles per match will increase greatly, much more so than if the picked team could complete one more line. Finally, if the great hybrid robot knocks off both balls and the great shooter has a lesser autonomous, they will end up with the knocked off balls on the ground in front of them ready to pick up and shoot right away.

Sorry everyone for the rant but we just had this epiphany on the car ride back and I had to get it out.

Good Luck everyone tomorrow!!

Thanks to Team 525 for believing in us again. Obviously it wasn't in the cards for us to repeat what we did in Minneapolis. We all thought that our alliance was the dream team but several days of abuse on our robots took its toll and we fell short. We all look forward to pairing up with your team again in the future.

Aloha Archimedes! We had a great time...wish we had a chance to play with and meet more of you but there was only so much time and so many matches. Our highlight was setting the high score for our division with 1024 and the amazing rookie team 2424 in our last match yesterday. When 1024 picked up 1124 we were hoping the pattern would continue to 2024 so we could show off the 20-point hybrid and finally play some defense...with 1024 and 1124 doing the offense what else would you need...but it was not meant to be. Mahalo to all the team members who came by to make friends with our whacky Hawaiian team...I think AJ was adopted by several. Maybe we'll see some of you in Hawaii next year?? *singing*... Back home again, in Indiana...

Anyhow, from team 1024 I'd like to say thank you all for making this an unforgettable year for all our team and especially our graduating seniors this year (self included :( ). Unfortunately, we didn't take home the trophy for Archemedes, but this is the farthest our team has ever gotten and we're proud to be Einstein-worthy.

Many thanks to our alliance captains 1124 and their Uber(gripper, arm, bot) (to decode, use the distributive propery of uber ;) ) along with our defending champ 177. It was a pleasure to play with the both of you!

Also, as a from-us-to-us thanks, congratulations and many thanks to all the sub-teams. We couldn't have taken home the World Innovation in Control award without all of your hard work to allow the control system to shine through. Thank You!

Congratulations to all you teams who earned our first ever team awards as well!

A final congratulations to the 1114/217/148 alliance. While I can't speak from personal experience on 217/148, I must say 1114 deserved to be called world champions this year.

Any who dispute it, say they cheated, or whine in general about their slick, smooth Simbot this year has a set screw missing. Congratulations Simbotics on your Championship win!

I really don't know what to say. Not to bring anyone down but personally, I don't know what was up with our last pick...I really don't.

71, "running with the Beast" was incredible, you guys made it awesome for me in my first year in Atlanta, it was really awesome to hear it coming from some of the mentors, "We'll take them all next year"

*with sincere tears*- You have no idea how much that means to me and the team.

Wow, an absolutely amazing show in Atlanta everyone.

Congratulations to 1024 for an incredible robot, an incredible partner, and jesus what a hybrid (definitely rockwell-worthy)

177- you guys rock. I couldn't have agreed more with that statement that ellen made when choosing you- and with our scouters for making you guys our top second pick. That roller claw you added did wonders.

987- you guys are scary good. combined with 365 and 842 you guys were almost unstoppable. Great show in the finals

525- i think you guys win the award for breaking our claw the most. some incredible defense we received from you guys

1771- your robot sucked. in fact, it sucked so much that the suction reached negative infinite, wrapped around to positive infinite, and shot the ball over the overpass. We never actually had the chance to work with or against you guys, but your robot continued to baffle me whenever i saw it.

*sigh* if only we continued further on einstein. Our autonomous failed to go in the last match, and we lost by exactly the amount of points that autonomous would have gotten us. all because our stupid disable switch decided to be hypocritical (long story).

Wow... we're home, I'm unpacked... and it's really kind of anticlimactic. I had a great time on Archimedes, and I'm really sad it's over. That was the last big event of my time on 1124 before I graduate this spring, so I'm glad we made it our furthest ever and went out with a bang. Making it to Einstein was an incredible experience- being on that field is so different than a regional or a divisional field. Speaking on behalf of my team, we were definitely not prepared for the Einstein experience, but it was a lot of fun, and we learned a ton from it. Thanks so much to our amazing alliance partners for helping us to get there! It was really an honor to work with both of your incredible teams. 1024, as soon as I saw the divisions that 1024 + 1124 sounded like a winning alliance. (-: You had a truly impressive robot, and I can see where all those regional wins and awards came from. 177, it was so much nicer to be working with you instead of against you in the finals. That strategy that you used against us last year definitely helped our alliance to win this year- it's a lot more fun when you know both sides of it. Your team has been such a help to us through our history, and it was great to team up again like our first win in 2006. (P.S. - Did you like the invitation to join our alliance? My teammates made fun of me because I talk a lot.) Your robot performed really well, and if I hadn't seen it in CT, I wouldn't have known that you finished the design at the Championship. 987, your robot was incredible this year. You were so close to another divisional win this season, and we thought you had it. We're a little bit disappointed that we didn't get to work with you because of 525's invitation, but it was fun to play against you again. Team 11, congrats on the first seed in Archimedes. You had a great robot, and seeding first is no easy feat. Congrats also to team 525 for an undefeated record. To the 365, 190, 177 alliance in our last qualifying match, another congrats. You had great strategy, and that gave you a win you deserved, and broke our undefeated record for the season. And... I definitely had a lot more congrats and comments I wanted to dole out, but I forget now that my mom came in and interrupted me. I guess I'll have to get to the rest of it later. Thank you to everyone for a great time on Archimedes!

To 365 thanks for the amazing defensive strategy you came up with for our qualifying match with you, that was a ton of fun to execute!

Hey ya'll,

Man oh man, what a ride what a ride. There were so many competitive matches I really lost count of how many I saw. I was so impressed by the hybrid period, everyone seemed to be moving in some form or another. Then President Bush 41 being there for opening ceremonies along with Dean and everyone else. I'll admit, originally I was not too thrilled with the game, but I left the Championships saying "that was good", and I was floored as I am every year by the winning alliance and final matches.

Big shout out to team 201, and 41! Thanks for partnering with us, you both were awesome partners and we almost pulled it out! We can't wait to see you next year.

1024 man once you guys got your bugs out you were moving and going again. Your robot was on target, you got the game.

71 every year you go out to impress and you succeeded this year again.

987 I loved your team, I loved your 'bot. Thanks for the help with the seats Saturday, you guys were on it! To bad we never got to play together, maybe sometime in the future.

RUSH what a piece of competition you were. Your pick up mechanism was so incredibly original that it took me a while to really figure out all the parts too it. We had some great matches in the semis.

MOE thanks so much for your help when our "brains" of our robot fried, it's too bad we didn't get it fixed just two minutes earlier so we could have been on the field with you for that match.

I could go on and on, but for now I'm going to leave it. I loved this weekend congrats to 1114, 217, and 148 your finals were awe shocking. Thanks so much for making the Championship a great one everyone.

Thanks for picking us as your alliance partner and for saving a "photographer" seat in the front row. We came so close to making it to the semi's.

I can't remember your Mentor's name that does the scouting but he does a great job. He was able to predict before each of 201's qualifying matches which alliance was going to win.

Thank you for seeing the potential of our robot.

I really love everyone on my team who is leaving. As its been said before, my second family is leaving after graduation. I hope to god they all either come back or start their own teams because trust me, any team that has a mentor or founder who has been a student of MORT and has been taught by Mr. William Mc Gowan is probably one of the luckiest teams in the world. Some of them are best friends and some of them are like brothers. Its different in my case because our mentor may or may not be retiring. I was so proud of the seniors and was so happy to be part of their final and most successful year on MORT. It was a pleasure talking and hanging out with teams like 107, 190, 555, 816, 1124, 1, 27, 1676, 103, 71, and most of all there was this one FLL team from Jordan that we played football and ultimate frisbee with.

In all honesty, I think this was our last shot at Atlanta in terms of my time in high school. I am just a sophomore, but even in 2-3 years with FIRST, the depth of the relationships that are formed are unbreakable and truly make you feel like you are part of something very very special.

To all the seniors: Thank you all so much for being there when I needed help, when I had a question, when I was bored as hell and you found the most unbelievable ways of having fun throughout the 2 years that I have been able to work alongside you all. But most of all, thank you for showing me what FIRST can truly do for someone: how many opportunities it can create, the friends you can make, and the level of pride, confidence, and leadership a young student can have for their team, their school, for FIRST, and for themselves. I will love and remember you all forever, and please, never stop what you are and have been doing in these past years. Its because of friends like you that I understand Dean's, Woodie's, and Mr. McGowan's concept that students in FIRST will change the world.

I will work my hardest to put MORT on the map as will the team you are leaving behind.

We will take Einstein one year...

may it take 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years...whatever, we'll do it. because as they say, "when there's a will, there's a way."

Next season is for you guys.

It's been over 24 hours since the 2008 FRC season ended, and my head is still spinning! First of all, congratulations to 1124, 1024, and 177 for becoming the 2008 Archimedes Division champs.

1024, your robot was incredible all year. You have amazed me ever since I first saw you guys at Boilermaker. 1124, I loved your innovative gripper and your incredible hybrid (5 lines, 2 balls!!!) was a highlight of Friday for me. If your robot would have been able to do that on Einstein, I really believe your alliance would have beaten Curie. 177, what more can I say, you guys just know how to win, win, and win.

Funny story about yesterday. When 1024's representative told that little story about how 177 picked them at the Connecticut Regional two years ago even though they had a low ranking, I got a strong sense of deja vu. This is because two years ago, on Galileo, we were ranked in the 60s going into the alliance selections and we did not think we were going to be picked. Out of nowhere, 177 picked us as their second alliance partner, and together with 1126, we won Galileo and advanced to Einstein. Sound familiar? I just though I had to share that one.

Finally, thank you to 292 and 41 for being amazing alliance partners. We gave the #2 alliance all they could handle. It took them FOUR matches to beat us! We were just a couple of bad breaks away from pulling off a huge upset. Even though I'm disappointed that we didn't win, thanks to you two, Team 201 left Atlanta smiling and with a deep sense of satisfaction.

Enjoy your summer, and even though I will be in Ann Arbor, attending the University of Michigan next year, I will keep close watch on the 2009 FRC season. CONGRATULATIONS to all of Archimedes!!!!!

I can't remember your Mentor's name that does the scouting but he does a great job. He was able to predict before each of 201's qualifying matches which alliance was going to win.

His name is Gerard and you are right he knows a ton about scouting and is very good, but I have to say that it was a combination of him because he organized and analyzed it all (along with some input by the rest of us), but all of our students not on the drive time spent all of Thursday and Friday gaining that information by scouting every match. It was difficult and sometimes tedious, but they did a great job.

As for that photographer's spot, we were glad so many people could get some use out of it, it was the least we could do since we got those prime seats! Share the wealth, huh?

Thanks for the complement and we'll see you next year (at Boilermaker again?)!

Does anyone have a video of when we tied with 27's alliance? It was so intense I can't remember a thing of it :D

Alex, I believe that after a few days NASA will post the archives of the divisions on their webcast site. I'm not completely sure about this, but this is how I saw replays of our matches two years ago....

Team 987 would like to thank our partners 365 and 842.

We couldnt have asked for better alliance partners!

MOE had an awsome bot this year, and they put on quite a show on archimedes during the eliminations. We loved working with you guys, your an awsome team! Hopefully we convinced you to come out to Las Vegas next year...

842 played insane defense against us in Las Vegas, and we were glad to have you on our alliance. You shut down alot of bots.Congrats on winning Chairmans award as well!

See you next year!

And congratulations to teams 1124, 1024 and 177 for your well deserved division title...you guys put up one heck of a battle and we were sorry to see that you didn't bring home the Championship to Archimedes! Hope to see all the teams in our finals make it out to Las Vegas to celebrate our regional's 5th anniversary.

First of all congratulations to 1124, 1024, and 177. You guys were really awesome.

Thanks everyone for all the great compliments about our bot. We were really hoping we would get picked by one of the top alliances because I don't think we could have been stopped then. It was really an honor playing with and against so many great times. I wish we could have made it farther but unfortunately our alliance was slightly weak.

Anyways, we had a great time and I can't wait for next year.

Bro, just so you know, you were on my list the whole time for our pick. You, us and the Beast would probably have been unstoppable in Archimedes.

Oh, and for memory's sake..

Congrats to all teams!

To 1124, 1024, 177, 987, 365 and 842, thank you all for some absolutely amazing finals matches. It was rough having 987 and 177 on opposing alliances and trying to root for both.

To 365 thanks for the amazing defensive strategy you came up with for our qualifying match with you, that was a ton of fun to execute!

To 177, congratulations on making 3 consecutive trips to Einstein, each on a different field. Maybe you can win Curie next year!

See you all in 09!

yeah it was weird for us to ha i loved watching that defense in the last match ha you guys just parked and raised your suction cup and teams would hurdle and you would swat it out of the air.REALLY FUN TO WATCH!!
