WOW I think it's one of the strongest divisions

I'm calling it now

(my opinion) NEWTON for the win!!!!!!!!

teams like 233,111,968,503,359,2056, as well us some of our fellow Florida boys 79,179,312,801 just to name a few

I swear to god, if something goes wrong with that robot again, I am going to send Tytus over with some gasoline. Seriously dude, you guys got a quality robot this year that has the ability to win. I hope everything goes right and I hope to see you guys on einstein.

Also quite fearsome in Florida Regional in 2005. A nice history between the you two teams

my first thoughts, a Florida regional with southeastern power houses.
I would not be surprised if Pink thought of 968 though as a potential 1st pick or vice versa if ranked high enough. Lets remember what pink and the identical version of 254 did in Hawaii!:p
Another scary thought:
111, 233, 179, 79, 968, 39,1086, 488, 2056, 375, 60,1251.
If any 3 of these machines get together in one alliance, oh my god!
I still dont get how 233, 71, and 179 were given the opportunity to pair up together last year.

I was the alliance captain who was in disbelief that that matchup was still available to me - *check the list, check the board, look around, check the board again, announce it slowly so I wouldn't look bad if they had already been picked* - then - *crazy excitement*

PS: Thanks Cory - though I wouldn't put any money on anyone, even you guys, in Galileo - it's just too crazy to predict.

Hope to see everyone at the competition and it will be very cool to meet some new west coast teams 60,39 that, I've always wanted to talk to as well as many others. Good luck to everyone and we will see you there.

I am pretty sure he is referring to us. Last year in the finals at Palmetto our robot broke and this year at Palmetto Semi-finals something broke again.

No worries Arefin we got it under control. We have used our fixed window wisely. ;)

Yes, I do remember 2005 as you folks squeaked out a win in vegas over 368 and beat us in the finals that year. Plus, we do remember the good old times at SVR.

Ha, Its been almost 12 hours of constant talk about how stacked Galileo is.

Newton is gonna have to knock some sense into them..;)

Seriously, lots of sleeper teams in this field, not all the popular teams, but certainly many many contenders. Depth of field is immense..

1279 will getting their hands dirty in this division

Good luck and it should be fun!

don't forget 2056, by most measures they are the second or third highest scoring team so far this year. They are a powerful team this year, I've seen them match up to 1114 very well in head to head matches. I think a combination of 2056 with one of 233, 968, 111, 39 would go very far.

Pjohn1959
10-04-2008, 11:29
This is going to be fun to actually compete with teams that we have only been able to see from SOAP and other videos. Go Newton....

By my count:
Galileo
21 one time winnner
7 two time winners
1 three time winners
13 Chairman's winners

Newton
20 one time winner
6 two time winners
0 three time winners
12 Chairman's winners

Archimedes
20 one time winner
0 two times winners
1 three times winners
10 Chairman's winners

Curie
19 one time winner
1 two times winners
0 three times winners
5 Chairman's winners

But almost certainly not for an alliance with two out of the first four mentioned, I'm pretty sure that if 2 of those 4 get together it will be as 3 seed at worst, more likely 1 or 2 seed.

You can compare to the same thing for Galileo (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=735425&postcount=165)

I'm not exactly sure what you did, but thats pretty cool. :D

And for the scouts, cross 1756 off your list. They won't be there, their robot's here in Peoria.

Do you really think that the majority of those robots listed as "third partner" would still be around? I don't see many of them lasting that long.

The powerhouse alliance depends on one thing,if one of the four do not finish #1 in the rankings then you will see parity in the alliances. Also you will have a few teams that you never expected picking alliances ,moving teams you thought would be first round to second round. This is why i have so many good teams on the second list , and your right some of them will be picking or picked first. The good thing for this division is that it is loaded with talent!!!!!

Hey! Team 223 in the curie division and are looking to align with a team from each division for scouting. With a small group like ours, it is difficult to scout in all four divisions.
With a team in each division, we can all share our scouting information when it comes time for pairings. If your team is interested or has further questions, feel free to e-mail me at kazzykaty@aol.com.

The Wobot joined that group too. He doesn't have too much to do sitting in a crate in Atlanta. I guess he was able to get a WiFi signal.

Is it legal for a robot to have internet access?

Looking forward to 1318's first visit to Atlanta. Also happy to be on the same field as 488, which has been a great alliance partner in 2007 and 2008.

I haven't been to the big one since 2000 in Orlando, so this will be exciting.

Good luck to you all. Beware of the Killer Rabbit.

Newton will definitely be one of the best and most exciting divisions.

umm.. pardon me, but it would seem your list is incorrect, the third alliance made it into the finals but was then defeated by the first seated alliance, i know because my team was in the third seated alliance, you might want to double check. The third seated alliance defeated the sixth, then went on to defeat the second and compete in the final match where we lost to 986-233-60.

That's because that list was a guess/prediction of what would occur. If you check the post time, you'll note it was posted at 12:29pm EST, before any elim matches occurred.

We had a great time in Atlanta. I still have a hard time believing Team 968 had the confidence to pick us after our embarrassingly bad qualifying matches Saturday morning. Before the alliance selection began, I was hearing a rumor of who 968 was going to pick, and it wasn't us. Anyway, on practice day at Atlanta, we made a change to our machine to try to improve things, but didn't have time to get the change sorted out. I suspect our decision to change things back to the way they were at the Hawaii Regional gave the 968 guys the confidence to pick us. It any case we were extremely appreciative of 968's decision to give us a chance with their superb team.

Congrats to 1114, 217, and 148. You did a great job and were the best alliance at the Championship. We knew going into the semis at Einstein that we had an uphill battle on our hands to try to beat you.

Thanks to 1625 and 179 for being awesome alliance partners it was a pleasure and honor to work with two great teams. Unfortunately we didn't make it into the semis but we put on a good show for the folks on newton thats for sure. #4 allience you guys played tough and hung in there even when you were down and you had 3 great bots. I'd also like to thank fellow Florida teams 801, 233, and 180 for countless things that aided us in our run to the elims, you guys are all great. Finally 968 for being cool all around and answering all of our teams questions about your robot you guys truly RAWC. Newton was awesome congratulations to everyone that participated in the division and 968,233,60 you guys represented us extremely well on Einstein giving Galileo a run for there money.

Not sure where any rumor of who we were going to pick originated. Perhaps someone overheard us talking fieldside while we were watching your last qualifying matches Saturday. We wanted you all along. After Friday, and the first qualifier on Saturday though, you have no idea how badly we wanted your robot to bust out its magic for the last one. And sadly it did not. :( . After your last match, we were absolutely scrambling to figure out what on earth we were going to do. The team we wanted the most scared us silly with a lack of showing. We knew your robot had what we wanted, but hadn't shown it, and we didn't know why. While it was tempting to pick someone else, after several minutes of discussion, it came down to picking time and we went around the circle and took a vote. It was a unanimous "pink". We knew your machine. We knew your people. We knew if we didn't pick you we'd regret it. While difficult at first, after analyzing it, there simply was no question in the end. 233 was the only robot and team with a genuine solid chance of taking us all the way.

It was such a pleasure competing with your high quality robot and team. Together we almost made it to the top!
