I am working to start a team in Mandeville, Louisiana. Last year, I was part of team 1477, in Texas, but i moved to LA this year. I joined a team at another high school, but i really want to make a team at my new school. I am working with my parents and the school to get the word out to students and parents, trying to get people interested. I am trying to make a video to put on the morning announcements about making a robotics club, which would be the FRC team.
What i need though is potential mentors, coaches, sponsors, or what ever i can get. Team 1477 has graciously decided to long-distance mentor us, and to help us get started. I have also received word that a team from slidell, LA would be willing to mentor us too.
Any help, suggestions, or anything would be most appreciated! :]

Err, team 8 is from Palo Alto, CA. We'd love to help, but unfortunately, we're about 2240 miles away.

Paly? Palo Alto High School? Pretty far west- they're relatively close to us (Menlo-Atherton) in the Bay Area, in California.

Edit: Wait, what? Oh... beaten to it again...

I changed the LA to Louisiana, so others won't be confused. :)

According to the FIRST website, there is another team in Mandeville, Louisiana (Team 2221). Also, the FIRST website indicates that they are willing to mentor.

https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=teaminfo&team=2221&event_type=FRC

Perhaps you should talk to them.

That's alright, that's why we have Gracious Professionalism, especially in a place where text can be so impersonal. Hurrah for good old forgiving Chief Delphi!

To get a bit back on topic, here (http://www.usfirst.org/involved/content.aspx?id=272)'s a list of sponsors that have supported FIRST all these years. I think most of these, if not all, are nation-wide companies. And of course, you know that engineers can be found almost anywhere, especially within these companies. As for the video idea, a music video or even a slide show set to some cool music boosts the awesome factor of designing and building robots by about 10 times. Best of luck!

Thats the team i was part of this year. They are on the opposite side of town, thats why i want to start a team at my school.

Thanks for the list of sponsors. I'll try emailing them and see what i can get.
And for the video, i was thinking the same thing. I waiting for pictures from the championship that my friend took to add to the list.

If you need any help with mentor contacts, 2587 is in the process of recruiting more people on the mentor search website.

http://mentorsearch.us

For now, you might want to just contact your FIRST Regional Director ,

http://www.usfirst.org/regionalcontact.aspx

A process is also going around for the Texas Teams to help increase communication about FIRST Robotics in Texas,

Can I ask which High school you are going to right now? It will help so I can give as much info. to my teacher as possible.

I am a Junior at Mandeville High school. I currently have a list of about 10 students that would be willing to join a robotics club, but i am looking for more. I am also shopping for a good teacher sponsor at Mandeville that would be there most of the time.

This is my teacher's email address
shelly.gaydos@tangischools.org

And she said that she is friends with a Math teacher at Mandeville High, and will talk to her about it, that teacher might be able to help you get it started or even mentor. You never know. Hope your successful.

If you are ever looking for an Inventor specific question, feel free to PM me. I am too far away to do much else, but am happy to help online with relatively short wait time. Good luck with the new team.

I am sure Team Fusion will be willing to help. We're not too far from y'all either, so it should work out. I would also contact Katie Wallace from NASA's SSC to ask about sponsorship. PM me if you are interested. I can give you her email and my phone number as well as our team's email address.

Team Fusion is a great team. Were they the Regional Chairman's winners this year at Bayou Regional? Also, don't forget to contact local college and university engineering departments. Michoud (NASA) may have folks interested in mentoring. Check out MOEmentum online at www.moe365.org. It's a week by week resource for Rookies. It's a good format for newbies. It breaks the process down so you don't get overwhelmed and gets updated as the build season goes on. Good luck!

Indeed we were the Regional Chairman's winner, and again, if anyone needs help, I'm here and ready.
