5th Gear was introduced at the NASA/VCU regional in Richmond, VA, and shown again at another robotics competion today in Fairfax, VA.
We shared a couple pictures last time, but this time we shot video of the event so people could see the game in action:

3d simulation of Overdrive
6 players compete together (as overdrive: 3 players on two alliances)
Each player drives a robot with an XBox 360 controller
Developed by a few Lockheed Martin mentors in their spare time

i totally like it, what apps were needed to run this? is there anywhere that i can download this simulation from? and was this run via a local network?
looks like a good way to get kids interested.

It was written in Microsoft XNA (http://creators.xna.com/), so it requires a few downloads to get it set up. Unfortunately its not available yet, and its not anywhere near polished enough for public download anyways, but we're working on it. There is a lot of discussion going on behind the scenes.
This was run on a LAN using 7 laptops (6 player machines and one server).
Folks,
See this picture-initiated thread for some other comments about the simulation we developed.

As soon as I saw "Use XBOX360 Controllers" I had the feeling that it was written in XNA. XNA is a great developer program built with C# (it's sorta like Java).
Folks,
As these simulation threads pop up I am trying to keep track of them and supply us all a road map of URLs that will let us pool our talents when/if we ever want to do that. Here is my list so far:

A couple new items:
1) The Overdrive Simulation/Game will be on display at IRI this weekend - If you are there - Give it a spin.
2) This looks interesting http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=751732&highlight=overdrive+simulation#post751732
