This is the 8th year we've been involved with FIRST LEGO League and we love the program. Yesterday, I completed registration for two FLL teams for the 2008 Climate Connections Challenge. I just wanted to give everyone budgeting for an FLL team the heads up on some shipping costs that you'll want to be aware of.

I ordered 2 registrations, 2 NXT kits, and 2 challenge kits. Cost for shipping: $100.80. I realize that these items often ship separately, but wow....that seems like an excessive amount for shipping.

On a lighter note, we will have FLL Team #3 for the third year in a row! (For those of you who don't know, FLL team numbers are reassigned every year)

Thank you for the update! I'm planning 11-15 teams this year and did NOT plan on that much! Looks like it is back to the budgeting board....Either that, or see if I can drive to Kansas and pick it up.

Hi again,

According to an email from FIRST, we FLLers have always been told to anticipate 10% for shipping cost. I guess I missed that part. In any case, it is just a cost to account for as you plan for next season.

You should plan for shock and awe on all shipping as gas prices go past $4 per gallon. UPS and FedEx have announced rate increases for all of their package shipments.

I have a friend in the food service business, he's seeing 10%-15% increases in the cost of items due to shipping hikes.

My wife registered 3 teams for the elementary school. She said she was going to try to get #1,2,3. By the time she got around to registering, she got #344,345,346, which is cool b/c we also work with MiM, FRC team #343.:]
