For those thinking of a interdisciplinary (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/interdisciplinary%20)doctoral degree in robotics, the first one being offered in the USA is at The Georgia Institute of Technology (http://www.gatech.edu/newsroom/release.html?id=1688).

Actually, Carnegie Mellon University has been the home to the first Robotics PhD program in the world for over a decade. Their program is designed around skill sets from the mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science programs, and easily satisfies the "interdisciplinary" definition.

HHmmm. I might have to think about this as a graduate program. Methinks this is in direct response to the Mechatronics degree at Southern Polytechnic which is not far away. http://advancement.spsu.edu/pub_rel/Mechatronics-CnstEng.html
