Below is the list of teams invited to the 2008 Indiana Robotics Invitational.
Also included is the list of 8 'wait listed' teams.
(an excel file is also attached)
Invited teams and waitlisted teams will receive an email with additional instructions later this evening.
Thank you to all who applied.
We had almost 100 team applications and it was a difficult task to narrow down the field to 72 teams. We considered 2008 performance, IRI history, team essays and other data when making the selection.
It looks to be an awesome competition.

Amazing, I come to Delphi right as this is put up. I can see just by looking down the list that this is going to be INTENSE. I absolutely cannot wait, as this is basically going to be our Championship event. The best of the best are going to IRI, and I love competing with the best.

Sorry for anyone who had to read that
Competition looks ridiculous, good luck to everyone
Thanks for the invite. We look forward to attending. Looks like an amazing list.
Team 1126 is happy to be accepted into a group of the elite. We can't wait to make our FIRST showing there. Should be fun!!!
This will be the HighRollers 1st off season event, we are looking forward to it, and will come to play!

I really have to try to make it out there this summer. I can foresee every qualifications match being just as competitive as the finals on Einstein.
Thanks for the invite! I really enjoyed IRI in 2005 and 2006, and unfortunately we missed registration last year, the year we were really competitive. Oh well, I can't do anything about the past, and I guess this means I should replace the tread on ours since some robot in Curie had an appetite for blue nitrile tread and took a chunk out of one of our wheels... and I guess I should really try working on hybrid a little more so we don't hit the wall every match.

Perhaps you mean "as entertaining"... with match scores of 104-54 and 136-94, the finals on Einstein were definitely entertaining, certainly impressive, but... well... not exactly all that competitive... especially when compared to some of the Einstein semis and divisional playoffs.
But I know what you mean... there will be some great matches. It will be interesting to see if any of these teams will be able to catch up to 1114.

I'm going to "look forward" and predict that the team's attending IRI WILL NOT allow 148, 217 and 1114 to team up for the elimination rounds but I definitely see one of them repeating their performance at the Championships.
Any guesses as to which one will take the top prize?
Can't wait to pack my ego and head to Indy in July. :)
this will be intense! thanks for the invite, cant wait to drive

shoots, you US mainland folks are so lucky that its at a reasonable cost to attend. We would have to have kept our robot on the mainland after CMP to attend.
glad that 1731 is on that list. After going to CMP and seeing as many robots as I could, I still think 1731 was the best robot not to have attended the championships. They are really good.

ok you guys - is the tee shirt shooter coming back and will.it.work?
Specifically - at the sound of BOOM?
The first or maybe second time?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm going to predict that either 1114 or 217 seeds first, and picks the other, and that alliance will go all the way again.

Looks like its gonna be a party. And I have to say I'm kinda hoping 1114 and 217 pair up again, I'd love to see a rematch. Assuming we even get that far with so many great robots coming to IRI.

I'm not sure if 217 will seed first. But luckily with such high level teams, qualifying rounds will be filled with the best of the best...so alliance partners really can't be an excuse for a loss now as in regionals. +$.02

i want the "destiny" alliance of the simchicken wranglers to form again, so i can have a shot at them, its a bigger accomplishment to beat the "unstoppable" alliance than to team up with one of them to win it but i won't be picky lol
So, when do the emails go out for the invited teams? I haven't recieved ours yet

PLEASE hold off on bringing T-shirt shooters. The planning committee needs to talk about these before we fill the gymwith cannons. There is a safety concern of someone getting shot in the face (especially a young child or other visitor) so we need to make some guidelines.

I am pretty sure if you ask all six teams that competed on Einstein, they would all agree that those matches were competitive. There is a fine line between winning and losing in this game.
The HOT team is very excited to be returning to IRI. Great job by the planning committee picking an incredible Invitee list.
We love competing against the best, so we would gladly take two more chances to play 1114, 217, and 148.

This field is amazing. I was at IRI last year, and wondered whether anything could equal it in team power. I think this year will be every bit as exciting.
Of the 72 teams on the accepted list, 35 of them were playing Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.
I'll be glad to see some of these machines up close for the first time.
Are you bringing the Hungry Hungry Hippo game?
aye. (arr aye)

It would take to long to total all the Einstien appearances and championships out of this crowd so I limited myself to just this year's crowd because its impressive.
However if a bored student has some free time a list of final 4 or final 8 appearances by all teams would be handy...
I値l take my colleagues challenge (even though I知 not a student)

If my quick counting is correct, we will have total of 46 Einstein Appearances, 9 Championship finalist finishes, and 20 Championship victories at IRI this year.
That's 75 medals on Saturday afternoon at the Championship. One for every team at the event with 3 to spare...

Hmmm, the second part of the registration seemed way to easy :) which I like. Anyone seen where payment checks have to be sent to or who they are to be made out to? Thanks.

I think you may be missing the point. IRI is ALL about hard-core competition, bragging rights, and big egos. And for those that fully enjoy the competitive part of the FIRST program, that is what makes it so much fun. :) The existing slogan is a perfect descriptor.

Unfortunetly there are plenty of great teams with huge egoes who haven't won the championships, so IMO egoes is probably a better term.

ANYTHING and i repeat ANYTHING can happen.
we were on the 5th seeded alliance in 06 and faced the #1 seed in semi's they had 3 robots shooting during autonomous and scored insane points in quarters. Watching the #1 seeds quarter final matches i thought we had no hope. Then we pulled off the upset and won. The #1 seed alliance was 25,1114, and 33
To any teams that applied for IRI and are unable get in, teams 25 and 1089 will be hosting another two-day weekend event two weekends later! We're looking for some more teams (we can fit up to 60) to attend.
