2008 IRI Scholarships

2008 IRI Scholarship Applications are due July 10.

Right now we expect to have significantly more scholarship funds available than we have ever had before.

These are for 2008 graduates. Applicants must be from a team competing at the IRI. Instructions below are from the event website - all applications are completed through the site. www.indianaroboticsinvitational.org.

The 2008 IRI will award up to 5 $1000 Scholarships. These scholarships will go to a graduating senior student from any team competing at the 2008 IRI. Students must apply through the IRI website and follow the instructions there. Two references are required for a student to be considered for a scholarship.

Students will be required to complete a short essay (500 words) to answer the following question:

1. How FIRST participation has impacted your life and your future career plans.

Students will require two reference letters -
1. A reference form from a Mentor, Engineer or Teacher on your team.
2. A reference from one other adult.

Complete applications (Essays and Reference Letters) must be received by July 10, 2008 to be considered.

Scholarship decisions will be made by the sponsoring companies

Do You need to be attending IRI to apply for a scholarship, or is it open to all that participate in FIRST that graduate in 2008?

I just had a quick question. I noticed on the IRI website that the instructions said to submit your application and recommendation letters here. Is the application for students just your essay that you wrote? You can PM me or post back here if you want. Thanks!

For an update on scholarships -

This year we have several generous sponsors who are providing for:

From corporate sponsors -
5 - $1000 Technical scholarships
(AndyMark, IFI, Allison Transmission, Rolls-Royce, Diversified Systems)

From the 2007 IRI Teams donations
1 - $1000 Technical scholarship

From the Marcia Beatty Foundation and the IRI
1 - $1500 Teaching Career scholarship

In all, $7500 will be awarded to 7 2008 High School graduates. The submission deadline has passed, and the company sponsors are reviewing the applications.

For those who are curious about the "IRI Teams" scholarship, there is a voluntary donation option for teams competing at the IRI. The funds donated in 2007 are bring used for a scholarhsip fund this year. The money donated this year will be used for a 2009 scholarship (right now about $1500!).
