A very interesting panel discussion
Dean Kamen, Lucy Lawless, Walt Mossberg and Neal Stephenson speak at DVICE's panel, "Science Fiction's Influence on Technology", at CES 2008, moderated by SCI FI Channel Executive Vice President and General Manager Dave Howe. Topics include helicopters, jet packs, Robert Heinlein, and the threat of biotechnology.

Xena: Segway Princess? :D

....we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

I've referred to this in past threads but yeah - "Terminator" sci-fi tech vs. the direction of actual military technology. Think about it.

the concept you talk about is called cyborg theory. I took a class on it in college and the connections are very obvious. There are quite alot of ethical and moral issues with these topics as well at technical barriers to overcome/ avoid.

If you want to learn more I highly recommend this book:

it is a collection of articles and papers on the subject. some of it is some tough reading but it will defiantly give you an interesting perspective.

Could Dean be the yet to be revealed fifth member of the Final Five? I guess we'll have to wait to find out when the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica go on air in January.
